Is the castle still owned by the family or was it sold off after the Princess died in 1971?

The castle was actually sold before that, in 1974. It was sold to Tibor Rosenbaum who was a friend/acquentance of Prince Bernhard. He was originally from Hungary, became a Mossad agent for a while and later worked as a banker in Geneva. Mr. Rosenbaum however had embazzled money from a Rotschild owned bank and he went bankrupt in the same year (1974). After his bankruptcy the castle was sold to the Avenarius family indeed. On the website of the castle the Rosenbaum sale is however not mentioned.

Princess Margriet will open a new cycling route on the Warmelo estate next week, extension of the Oranjeroute...got to get my bicycle out for that:as Warmelo is close to the German border, and most of the route is in Germany....hence...the Dutch-German link

According to the private website about Dutch castles guuspauwels.nl:
Quote:
Owner and resident is now the Avenarius family. On July 1, 1974 Warmelo was sold to Tibor Rosenbaum. After his bankruptcy later that year, it came into the possession and use of the Avenarius family. In 2003, the legal property was transferred to the Natuurschoonwet Landgoed Warmelo bv.
