I agree, An Ard Ri. It looks though as if the modern tale may be taking from the film somewhat which is what many people were afraid of.

Oh, I see that someone has posted a reply to the review. This person seemed to enjoy the film so much so that they went back to see it again. That is good news.

Uh-oh...the review in the Telegraph is horrendous!

I didn't expect much but surely it can't be that bad??
I don't think I've ever read a worse review!

Madonna's W.E., review - Telegraph

Pretty similar to other reviews I have read, and about the same as the response of friends of mine who saw it at Toronto film Festival and they were Madonna fans. I think I will wait until it is on dvd or perhaps tv.

Madonna's dislocation from reality spreads to her debut feature film which is a Royal mess | Mail Online

Just seen the trailer for the film on telly, and it looks as crap as I expected.

Re: W.E., seeing it in the cinema is causing problems. It isn't showing in a cinema close to me (I automatically assumed that it would be). Plans to travel and see it this past week went out the window owing to a bereavement in the family.

Catching it on DVD may be my only option.

The film doesn't come out on wide release until Feb 3rd so you might stand a chance of seeing it at a local cinema after that.

I am one of those people who can't go to the movies and not buy popcorn! So that is going to add up to about $20 if I go see this movie in theaters. I really wish I had a job.

Looks like the film flopped in a major way.

Films about the RF generally do quite well, s I guess it was due to Madonna's reputation. It doesn't look like it will make its money back, but perhaps when it goes to video?

It made £183,000 with advance screenings added in, in the UK and that was on wide release. My local cinema, which is the second biggest cinema chain the UK (cineworld) isn't showing it. I would have to travel a good two hours to find the nearest cinema showing it.

At this stage I have signed up to be notified by Amazon (UK) when it becomes available on DVD. There is a review on the Amazon site which places it up there with "The King's Speech" and "The Queen".

W.E [DVD]: Amazon.co.uk: Abbie Cornish, Andrea Riseborough, James D'Arcy, Madonna: Film & TV

It got ravaged everywhere, except apparently Amazon. They laughed out loud at its Venice Premiere.

I don't think you can judge a film on one review on Amazon, whereas, like you say, it's been ravaged everywhere else.

I don't think you can judge a movie without seeing it in the first place!

Its all about individual taste, some people will like it & others hate it

I went to see W.E. last week with my friends and I have to be honest and say I wouldn't recommend it. I had hoped for a historical film about their relationship and was left very disappointed.

Absolutely. ! I must be the only person who keeps seeing decent reviews, the Amazon one and a number of positive reviews on the Irish RTE website.

Does the modern story feature more strongly / more often than the Wallis / Edward one. ? That is my fear.
