I readabout this series time ago, and I´m so looking foward to it!
I find the plot and period fascinating and, for once, it is refreshing to see a series based upon the 17th century instead of the always Middle Ages-Renaissance or Victorian Age that seems to be a constant (even if I love them).
I hope it won´t be dissapointing!

Really looking forward to this!
I visited Versailles a couple of years ago and have always found it so fascinating.
It'd be wonderful to see a dramatization of life at the palace.
It's rare to see English programmes on the subject (I've only seen one English documentary on Versailles but that was a French doc. dubbed in English).

I recently watched all ten episodes of the first episodes and wrote a review for HRW. I read the first episode was broadcast on Belgian TV and that it was bought by BBC.

I watched episode1 last night,I'm not sure about George Blagden as Loius XIV,he's still fresh in my mind as Brother Athelstan in the Vikings.
However I will give it a go!

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade but the series goes between awful and rediculous. It is painful to watch. I understand some diversion from history, but this is just too much. Lot's of steamy sex scenes that are only a few steps away from pornography and lots of difficult looks in the camera and people going on and on about present day themes like equality for women, racial differences etc. Not the foremost issues in the 17th century and it doesn't make the series more credible. The story seems to be reduced to the struggle of Louis XIV and his brother. While in reality his brother was docile enough and the struggle was a generation before between Louis XIII and Gaston of Orleans.
I obviously didn't finish watching it. I wouldn't advice anybody to spend a penny or to waste a minute on it.

Thanks for the review, Marengo. I will certainly bear that in mind before I attempt to buy it. I certainly don't want to fork out money for what seems to be another "The Tudors" type of drama.

Hmm. It was a fact that Marie-Antoinette was short of cash; she didn't influence much.

So how is Season 2 so far? I wonder when we'll get it in the US.
