Iggy Pop & Ensemble intercontemporain are the Laureates of the Polar Music Prize 2022.
Iggy Pop, born James Newell Osterberg, the legendary godfather of punk, and Ensemble intercontemporain, the world’s leading contemporary music ensemble, are today announced as the recipients of the 2022 Polar Music Prize, in what marks the 30th year of the prize. The awards ceremony takes place on Tuesday 24 May in Stockholm at the Grand Hotel, and will be broadcast live in Sweden on TV4 at 8pm (CET). It can be viewed throughout Europe via TV4 Play from 5.30pm (CET).

Laureate Diane Warren sits between king Carl Gustaf and Fredrik Wersäll, the Marshal of the Realm. On the other side of the king sits Marie Ledin, Managing Director of the Polar Music Prize.
Madeleine's friend Lovisa de Geer is the "Behind the scenes" reporter at the Banquet. She does the interviews shown at the live broadcast during the commercial breaks at TV4's broadcast.
Iggy Pop said that the royal family is very nice and they like to party.

Looking back on 30 Years of the Polar Music Prize, managing director Marie Ledin reflected to Billboard on her father Stig Anderson's creation of the prestigious international prize.
It’s accurate to call the two main events of the Prize a “royal ceremony” and a “royal banquet,” as King Carl XVI Gustaf is present for both and appears on stage to hand the Prize to the laureates. Ledin says that the King was enthusiastic about the Prize right from the beginning. “He loved the idea and the royal family has been very supportive, which we are very happy about. It’s a great honor to have them with us at the ceremony and banquet and it means so much to the laureates to receive the prize from the King. The year we honored Grandmaster Flash I did wonder how the King would respond to rap music, but as ever, he smiled throughout and enjoyed meeting Grandmaster Flash.”

Marie Ledin, managing director of the Polar Music Prize and daughter of the late Stig Anderson, spoke at the Tuesday evening royal banquet. She thanked the royal family for its continuing support of the Prize and added that she and her brothers Lasse and Anders wanted to honor the memory of their father as well as their mother, Gudrun.

Angélique Kidjo, five-time Grammy Award winning Beninese artist and songwriter;
Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, one of the UK’s greatest independent record labels,
and Estonian Arvo Pärt, the world’s most performed living composer,
are announced today as the recipients of the 2023 Polar Music Prize. The Polar Music Prize ceremony will take place on Tuesday 23 May in Stockholm at the Grand Hôtel. Watch the live broadcast in Sweden on TV4, or globally via YouTube, from 6pm (CET).
The prize is presented in Stockholm in the presence of the Swedish Royal Family. Each Laureate will receive prize money of 600,000 Swedish Kroner (approx. £47,681/US $57,384).
