A long and interesting interview of Fredrik Wersäll, the Marshal of the Realm, at Dagens Juridik newspaper yesterday.
When Fredrik Wersäll was appointed The Marshal of the Realm, he had been President of the Svea Court of Appeal since 2008. His previous posts had included Prosecutor-General, Justice of the Supreme Court, and Director-General for Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Justice. He had also had a number of public assignments, including as an Inquiry Chair and as Chair of the Swedish Press Council. He was chairing the Government Disciplinary Board for Higher Officials and the Swedish Anti-Corruption Institute.

About the interview:
Fredrik Wersäll chose the King over the pension. Three years ago, he took up the highest office one can achieve within the court if one is not of royal birth. Wersäll says about his job that it is a fun and varied work with many ingredients and exciting meetings. He describes his work and says that he is probably almost some kind of equivalent to the director general of the court if this had been an authority. He has basically three tasks. The first is to be the head of the Royal Court, which consists of about 300 employees with all that entails. The second is to be an adviser to the King on more important issues, which takes up a large part of his time. The third is to be the entrance for the Government and Parliament to the King. He has a lot of contacts with the Riksdag and Government Offices. Wersäll says that his relationship with the King is very confidential. They can talk about everything and they must be able to do that. But his relationship with the King is based entirely on his office, they have no personal relationship. He is the King's closest man as the highest representative of the court's organization, but of course the King has other advisers that Wersäll doesn't know and has no reason to research. The King has a huge network.
Wersäll is asked how he addresses the King? He would not think of saying anything other than "Your Majesty" or "kungen" ("the King") depending on how the conversation goes. When he meets the King for the first time in a day, he usually says "Good morning, Your Majesty", but when they sit in conversation, he usually says "the King".
Wersäll says about the future of the monarchy that in these Twitter times, the real strength of the monarchy is long-termism and continuity. In 2023, the King has sat on the throne for 50 years, and Sweden has had a hereditary monarchy for 500 years. The strength is the long-term perspective, the ability to be a unifying figure for the country.
The reporter says to Wersäll that he turned 70 on the same day as the King turned 75 on Walpurgis Night. How long will he stay as The Marshal of the Realm? Wersäll says that he has no time-limited appointment and the starting point is that he stays as long as the King thinks he should stay and as long as he thinks he can handle his job in a good way.
Among other things, Wersäll is asked also about the problems at the Swedish Academy and the King's decision in October 2019.

Sweden's most famous hairdressers: Peter Hägelstam - 40 years as Queen Silvia's hairdresser
Peter Hägelstam says that being a royal court's hairdresser is a great honor and he is very humbled by the trust he has received. He started with Björn Axén 40 years ago and after 3 days of employment he was presented to the queen. Because he so quickly became part of that work and assisted Björn, it became natural that he took over the responsibility when Björn passed away. And it's still a lot of fun to work with.
Hägelstam tells about the things he has to keep in mind when being responsible for the appearance of such public figure, the first thing is that he doesn't talk about it. He likes to talk about what he does but everyone sitting in his chair is a private person and he doesn't talk about them. It is about adapting to climate and humidity, so that the hair lasts a long time and can withstand travel and long events. When handling jewels, tiaras and jewelery, a certain technique is also required. And his treatment should be as soft and comfortable as possible.
Hägelstam is asked which of the Queen's Nobel hairstyles he feels a little extra for? Hägelstam says that there is one. Björn Axén passed away in 1993, so the Nobel Banquet the same year became the first Hägelstam did on his own. The queen wore a fantastic black and white dress from Nina Ricci and he did a jewel combing with jewelry in the neck which turned out very well. He was nervous and there were high expectations of what he would do without Björn but it turned out to be successful and adorable for the dress. So this he remembers a little extra, his first Nobel on his own and a beautiful, spectacular combination with the dress and hair.

He has tied the bridal bouquets to the three royal weddings, received a medal from the King and is the first to be awarded the honorary title of Court Florist. SPG has met the Master of the Palace Claes Carlsson.
The Royal Palace. The Master of the Palace and Court Florist Claes Carlsson unloads boxes full of fresh dahlias, asters, zinnias, lilies, hydrangeas, rosehips and rowanberries. It is the evening before Sweden will have its first state visit since the pandemic broke out. The Federal President of Germany with an official delegation are guests and the royal couple, the crown princess couple and the prince couple will receive them here, at the palace. Claes Carlsson's task is concise, but great: to create a perfect first impression.

Lieutenant general Jan Salestrand, the Chief of H.M.The King's Military Staff, won SEK one million in "Bingolotto" on Sunday night.
Salestrand called into "Bingolotto" on TV4 himself and managed to win the highest prize in the popular "Färgfemman".
- It was incredibly fun, because I have subscribed to lotteries for many years, says Salestrand to host Stefan Odelberg.
Margareta Thorgren didn't know about the incident when Expressen called, she said that she hadn't heard of that and it's a private matter for Salestrand. There is nothing that the court comments on.

Video at Youtube of The Royal Palaces: Furniture conservator
The Royal Collections employs about 30 employees to care for and manage the royal furniture collections. One of them is the furniture conservator Fredrik Hedgårdh. In recent years, he has overseen the Palaces' rococo offices.
The Royal Collections have evolved over a period of more than 400 years, from Vasa time to the present day. They include everything from simple utensils to magnificent objects of international importance. The majority of the objects are still in use today.
