If Princess Madeleine will attend the Nobel Prize is not clear yet.
Margareta Thorgren tells Hänt why the message is delayed.
- We don't know yet. Like all previous years, we will post on the website when we know who will be attending the Nobel party. The reason we don't do it sooner is that there can be changes and then there will be so much focus on that, says Margareta Thorgren.

The court confirmed to Svensk Damtidning that Madeleine attends the Nobel Prize ceremony. Madeleine comes to Sweden also because The World Childhood Foundation delivers its Childhood Prize on 9th December, and Madeleine is the member of the jury.

Margareta Thorgren said to Svensk Damtidning that Madeleine comes to Sweden alone, Chris stays in Florida with the children.

Margareta Thorgren told to Svensk Damtidning that princess Christina and Tord Magnuson will not attend the Nobel Prize ceremony this year.
Thorgren said that princess Christina and Tord Magnuson get their own invitation every year but this year they have decided not to attend, because they have other commitments.

The Nobel Prize Award Ceremony
The Nobel Day, 10 December, will begin with the traditional Nobel Prize Award Ceremony at Konserthuset Stockholm (the Stockholm Concert Hall). There will be presentation speeches about the year’s prizes before an audience of about 1,560 guests, who will then watch the Laureates as they receive their medals and diplomas from the hand of H.M. the King ofn Sweden. The seats closest to the stage are reserved primarily for the Laureates’ families, representatives of the prize-awarding institutions, members of the Swedish government and Riksdag (Parliament) and the diplomatic corps. Seated on the stage will be about 90 people. They are members of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Nobel Assembly of Karolinska Institutet, the Swedish Academy and the Board of Directors of the Nobel Foundation, as well as previous Laureates.
In front of them on the stage will sit this year’s Laureates and members of Sweden’s Royal Family: H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf, H.M. Queen Silvia, H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria och H.R.H. Prince Daniel. In the first row closest to the stage will be H.R.H. Prince Carl Philip, H.R.H. Princes Sofia and H.R.H. Princess Madeleine.

The Nobel Banquet in Stockholm
After the ceremony at Konserthuset Stockholm, it will be time for the evening’s Nobel Banquet at the Stockholm City Hall. The banquet programme will follow tradition and begin with the entry procession of the Royal Family and other guests of honour down the grand stairway and into the Blue Hall at 19.00 CET. Prior to this, the guests of honour will have been presented to the Royal Family in the Prince’s Gallery of the City Hall. Behind the Master of Ceremonies will be two attendants followed by H.M. the King with his dinner companion and H.M. the Queen with Professor Carl-Henrik Heldin, Chairman of the Board of the Nobel Foundation and the host of the evening’s banquet. In 1901 the first Nobel Banquet, held in the Hall of Mirrors of the Grand Hôtel, had 113 guests. Today the Nobel Banquet is served to about 1,350 guests.
The Banquet will conclude at about 23.00 CET.

Finnish Anitta Näsänen is King Carl Gustaf's waitress at the Nobel Gala.
On Tuesday, December 10, part of Sweden will stop. Stockholm City Hall is illuminated in the evening. The Nobel Prizes have already been awarded earlier at the Concert Hall.
A total of 1,350 people, Nobelists, Royals, politicians and other celebratory guests will sit in the City Hall for a three-hour meal, which, according to the etiquette, must not leave the table for other needs. Ordinary people watch the play on television.
In addition to the guests, the waiters are the main persons in the evening. They move smoothly amongst the guests without making noise about themselves. Last year, though, a waiter stole the show by dropping a piece of vegetable from the plate onto the back of the guest. The TV camera captured the scandal and social media broadcast the event to the world.
- The waiter is here again this year. Hope all goes well this time, City Hall butler Anitta Näsänen, 51, laughs.
She's a true veteran of the house, 26 years in the same job. For the last four years he has been a butler. She always wears a waitress's coat on a Nobel evening. Näsänen has served King Carl Gustaf for ten years.
- When they asked me to be a butler, I said that only if I could continue serving the king. My condition was accepted, Näsänen says and says that she will talk to Carl Gustaf over the evening.
- He often asks what food is on the menu. The menu is in French and English. Then I'll tell him in Swedish what's to come. As if he wanted to check if I knew what food I was serving, Anitta chuckles.

On Tuesday, it's time, but this year's Nobel looks to be turbulent: At the same time as the royal family arrives, protests against literary prize winner Peter Handke are ongoing.
This year's Nobel festivities can be stormy - even stormier than in a long time.
While the royal family's two parade limousines are rolling in front of the heavily barred Concert Hall in Stockholm just before 4:30 pm on Tuesday - and all seven are sliding out in full gala attire - protests will take place a few hundred meters away.
- We have given permission for a stagnant demonstration against the decision to award the Nobel Prize in literature to Peter Handke. It will take place at Norrmalmstorg between 17:00 and 21:00 on the Nobel Day, December 10, says police spokesman Towe Hägg to Svensk Damtidning
Who is behind the application?
- It is a private person, but who we are we don't go out with. That task is only public when it comes to an association or organization.
Towe Hägg says that the demonstration also has permits for choral singing and theater plays, and that sounds peaceful - but the protests against the controversial Austrian author Peter Handke, 76, arouse very strong feelings. This is because he has denied war crimes committed in Bosnia during the Balkan War in the 1990s.
The demand of the king before the Nobel
The storm of criticism against him started with full force the day the decision became known and the royal family was withdrawn fairly immediately. "Refuse to distribute the prize, King!", For example, demanded former Liberal MEP Jasenko Selimović.
- It is shameful that the Swedish Academy gives the award to Peter Handke. This is a man who in his books diminishes the war crimes, he told SVT News.
And Alen Musaefenic, a business center political expert, attacked Expressen's culture page.
It has also been speculated as to whether the fact that Princess Christina has decided to attend the Nobel festivities this year would be a silent protest against Peter Handke, but the rumors are strongly demented by the director of the press department, Margareta Thorgren.
Turbulensen inför Nobel _ Svensk Dam

Svensk Damtidning has previously told that the king's sister, Princess Christina, doesn't attend the Nobel party this year. And since then, some have been worried that Christina's absence has something to do with her past medical history.
But now the court states that the princess is doing well. The fact that she doesn't attend is not due of her feeling ill, says Margareta Thorgren.
Christina and husband Tord Magnuson have other commitments this year instead.

So dies Christian attend or not. In one sente4nce you write seh attends in the other she doesn't.
And why are the protesters not going after the Nobel Comitee. After all it is their decision to give the Prize to Peter handke and the King only hand's it out. 'Could he actully refuse to hand it out?

The Nobel Prize ceremony is not a State function and the Royal family are there as guests not as hosts so the King could choose to not attend if he wanted to. Of course given the situation this could be seen as him taking a political stand. The protests are mainly aimed at the Swedish academy and Peter Handke himself but the reason the King is facing criticism is because he is the Head of State and having him hand out the prize to Peter Handke could be seen as a sanction by the Swedish state of the author's views and actions.
Although it would be unfair to the other laureates, I for one hope that the Royal family, the government and other invited representatives of the Swedish state stay at home. To attend the ceremony would in my opinion be the same as giving their silent consent to the Bosnian genocide being trivialized and forgotten.

The only possibility of the King not giving out the prizes would be if the government of Sweden advised him not to attend the ceremony, in which case the prime minister and other state guests would most likely boycott it also. Since that is not going to happen, the Royal Family will of course be there in force.

The Table of Honour at the Nobel Banquet 2019
https://s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.co..._ENG_FINAL.pdf

As always, countess Bettina Bernadotte af Wisborg and her husband Philipp Haug attend. Countess Bettina and her husband have been in Sweden already for some days and attended the Nobel Prize lectures given by the Laureates.

Peter Handke doesn't sit close to the royals, he sits between Helena Norlén, the wife of the Speaker of the Riksdag, and Caroline Parmelin, Partner to Guy Bernard Parmelin, Federal Councillor, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, Swiss Government.

Interesting alterations to the placement of the royals at the Table of Honour in comparison to years past. The announcement that Prince Carl Philip's as well as Princess Madeleine's role would be reduced over time raised the question in my mind as to whether the King might finally cease putting his son ahead of the crown princess's consort in official precedence, but the new arrangement this year makes that impossible to distinguish.

There is only 1 person between Prince Daniel and The King, as well as only 1 person between The Crown Princess and The Queen. Doesn’t that mean he takes his wifes rank ?

Prince Carl Philip sits 3 persons away from The Queen and Princess Madeleine 5 persons away from The King.

Sad that Princess Christina and Tord Magnuson isn’t attending (though relived that it has nothing to do with her health). They may not be senior royals since a very long time but they are hugely popular her in Sweden.
