Margareta Thorgren has told to the press that princess Christina and Tord Magnuson have other commitments and they don't attend the Nobel Prize Award ceremony and Banquet this year.

Hi folks. Where can I watch the ceremony live?

Is this the one who was made from some cufflinks that belonged to Gustav V or is that the other one with multicoloured stones?

The one with the cufflinks

Wow, Sofia seems to have added aquamarines or blus topaz to her tiara.
Queen Sofia with the prongs tiara for the third time in a row, now that's a bit boring. Victoria, as many guessed, with the Baden fringe, Madeleine with the beautiful aquamarine kokoshnik again.

The looked very blue. Perhaps turqioses.

A bit dssappionting that Queen Silvia wore again the Nine Pringe tiara. Hoped she would bring out the sapphires. She ciould have worn at last a bigger necklace with it.

Typical Silvia with her quite-new gorgeous ES gown.
Victoria is quite dramatic today but I think it's not bad? Edit: saw the close up and it IS bad.
Madeleine borrowed her sister's stunning diamond earrings!
Sofia did get a new set of gemstones (and earrings) and unfortunately it's turquoise. Doesn't look good to me.

You might be right about turquoise. We'll soon have better close up pictures to determine whether the stones are transparent or not.

Does anybody else think that Victoria's gown is just too much? But I love the Queen's gown, even though it is not standing out that much. It's very elegant and flattering, though.

I think that the epaulette earrings are part of the Bernadotte collection, so they're not Victoria's. But they do look stunning on Madeleine.

Yes the Quen's gown is very elegant. At first ui thought Victorioa was wearing another one of Silvia's old gown's but that i thiugfht is different as it has black and white stripes. But quiet similar in shape and it looked wonderfull on the Queen back then.

Victoria's gorgeous dress

Unfortunately, the dress really and truly looks like it's made out of a quilt (duvet).
I'm laughing at the idea of someone pulling it off their bed and stitching it into this mess for Victoria.

At least it's warm enough for winter night...

Madeleine looks absolutely stunning! Sofia also looks pretty good. Although I’m happy to see the interchangeability of the stones, I am not a fan of turquoise.

Well! Another Nobel ceremony in the books.

Victoria’s gown has grown on me throughout the day and the Baden Fringe really shines on her here. I, for one, have no problem with turquoise and am happy to see them on Sofia’s tiara. I’m not crazy about the earring pairing though. And Madde’s dress is very pretty but this is not her best showing of the aquamarine tiara - it doesn’t match well with the dress and is titled back more than she usually wears it. The epaulette earrings are always great though.

I’m curious - why are Countess Bettina and her husband invited to this event each year? Are they involved with the Nobels in some way or particularly close to the royal family? It seems there a many Bernadottes or other distant family but we never see them for Nobel Season. Not that I mind. The more tiaras the better!

Looking forward to day 2 tomorrow!

I agree it looks like a quilt. I also agree with the other person it is nice and warm.

I think this branch of the Bernadotte family lives at Mainau where the Nobel prize winners come to share their learning with students and other invited guests at special Nobel events; therefore it it would make sense for them to come to Stockholm to meet the new laureates.:flowers:

As Gerry wrote, Countess Bettina host the Lindau meeting each year bringing together Nobel laureates, other scientists and students to foster scientific exchange between different generations and cultures. The meetings mainly takes place in Lindau but parts of the event are held at Mainau. The idea was originally thought of by physicians Franz Karl Heintz & Gustav Parade who asked Count Lennart Bernadotte to help them convince the Nobel Committee to support them. The first meeting was held in 1951 and the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings was founded in 1954 to organise the fast growing event. The first president was Count Lennart Bernadotte and he's been followed on the post by his widow Countess Sonja and his daughter Countess Bettina.

Since October 2008, Countess Bettina Bernadotte is president of the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings and member of the Board of the Foundation Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings. She has been a member of the Council since 2005.

The meetings are held in Lindau, but at every meeting the last day is held on the Mainau Island. The meetings last usually five or six days.
Once every year, around 30-40 Nobel Laureates convene in Lindau to meet the next generation of leading scientists: 600 undergraduates, PhD students, and post-doc researchers from all over the world. The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings foster the exchange among scientists of different generations, cultures, and disciplines.
The meetings focus alternately on physiology and medicine, on physics, and on chemistry – the three natural science Nobel Prize disciplines. An interdisciplinary meeting revolving around all three natural sciences is held every five years. In addition, the Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences is held every three years.
The scientific programme of each Lindau Meeting is based on the principle of dialogue. The different sessions – lectures, discussions, Master Classes, and panel discussions – are designed to activate the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experience between and among Nobel Laureates and young scientists.
In 2020 70th Lindau Meeting (Interdisciplinary) is held on 28 June–3 July 2020. And in 2020 is also held 7th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences, on 25–29 August 2020.

You can read more about the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings here:
The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings

Countess Bettina usually comes to Sweden already to attend the Nobel Lectures given by the Laureates at the Nobel Week, and meets the Laureates then. Countess Bettina speaks swedish, and also her children speak swedish. Count Björn Bernadotte has told that both his sisters have taught swedish to their children.

As every year, I feel melancholic this morning. Now I have to wait one year to see that solemn and formal Prize Ceremony again - with its great music, which means a lot to me. That the Ceremony is the same every year, is great, but every year it is interesting to hear the music in it.
And the Banquet - with its wonderful procession. And I especially liked the divertissement this year - the Swedish ballad tradition. It was wonderful to hear Evert Taube's "Änglamark" sung at the Nobel Banquet, and to listen to two good and talented singers, Lisa Nilsson and Magnus Carlson.
