Detailed Information for media

The Nobel Prize Award Ceremony in Stockholm
The Nobel Day, December 10, will begin with the traditional Nobel Prize Award Ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall. There will be presentation speeches about the year’s prizes before an audience of about 1,560 guests, who will then watch the Laureates as they receive their medals and diplomas one by one from the hand of H.M. the King of Sweden. The seats closest to the stage are reserved primarily for the Laureates’ families, representatives of the prize-awarding institutions, members of the Swedish government and Riksdag (Parliament) and the diplomatic corps. Seated on the stage will be about 80 people. They are members of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Nobel Assembly of Karolinska Institutet and the Board of Directors of the Nobel Foundation, as well as previous Laureates.
In front of them will sit the 2018 Laureates and members of Sweden’s Royal Family: H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf, H.M. Queen Silvia, H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria and H.R.H. Prince Daniel.
In the first row closest to the stage will be H.R.H. Prince Carl-Philip and H.R.H. Princess Sofia.

The Nobel Banquet in Stockholm
After the ceremony at the Concert Hall, it will be time for the evening’s Nobel Banquet at the Stockholm City Hall. The banquet programme will follow tradition and begin with the entry procession of the Royal Family and other guests of honour down the grand stairway and into the Blue Hall at 19.00 CET. Prior to this, the guests of honour will have been presented to the Royal Family in the Prince’s Gallery of the City Hall.
Behind the Master of Ceremonies will be two female attendants followed by H.M. the King with his dinner companion and H.M. the Queen with Professor Carl-Henrik Heldin, Chairman of the Board of the Nobel Foundation and the host of the evening’s banquet. In 1901 the first Nobel Banquet, held in the Hall of Mirrors of the Grand Hôtel, had 113 guests. Today the Nobel Banquet is served to about 1,340 guests.
The Banquet will conclude at about 22.45 CET.

The seating plan for the Table of Honour will be published at 10.00 on December 9.

On Friday morning the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences gave the media an opportunity to meet the 2018 Nobel Laureates in Physics and Chemistry as well as the Laureates of the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel at a press conference.

Countess Bettina Bernadotte, the President of the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, was also invited to the press conference.
She asked a question from the Laureates "What is inspiring you and what is motivating you to work in science or is it just happening? This would be a question to all the Laureates."

The Table of Honour at the Nobel Banquet
This year we have two female Laureates. Daniel has got a place between them. As told previously, princess Christina and Tord Magnuson attend.
And as always, countess Bettina Bernadotte af Wisborg (the President of the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings) and her husband Philipp Haug attend.

Victoria attends today at Nobel Week Dialogue "Water Matters" at the Stockholm City Conference Center.
The Nobel Week Dialogue is a free of charge, full-day event and part of the official Nobel Week programme. The event aims to stimulate discussion at the highest level on a topical science-related theme by bringing together Nobel Laureates, the world’s leading scientists and experts, key opinion leaders, policy makers and the general public, online as well as on site. By bridging science and society, it’s an opportunity to stimulate thinking, excite imagination and inspire greatness.

Doesn't members of the royal family attend the Nobel concert yesterday evening?

No members of the royal family attended at the concert. And I haven't seen any info that princess Christina would have attended at the concert either.

Recycled this year's trend at the Nobel Prize
Crown Princess Victoria found the Nobel dress in her mother's wardrobe. Now she is praised for her environmentally conscious choice.
Sustainability and conscious choices stepped out among the dresses at the Nobel Prize. Lead by Princess Victoria, who recycled Queen Silvia's dress, went from the Nobel 1995.
Fashion journalist Nina Campioni calls Victoria's choice "totally unbelievable". The Queen's Nina Ricci dress in gray, green and pink with a big bowl is "a smart choice and once again shows that Victoria is an example when it comes to environmental thinking."
Another who was ecologically active was Minister for Culture and Democracy Alice Bah Kuhnke wearing a dress made of side garments submitted to the Stockholm City Mission's second hand stores. The dress will then be reusable even more when it is available for rent at Stockholm City Mission.
Återvunnet årets trend på Nobelfesten _ Aftonbladet

Aftonbladet's fashion expert Nina Campioni
"I get both goose pumps and tears in my eyes when I see Crown Princess Victoria come in an indescribably beautiful dress by designer Nina Ricci. Yes, you think, that's fine and so, but Vickan is always nice? Well, remember, Mama Queen Silvia was wearing the same dress on Nobel in 1995. Now that Victoria is wearing it again, it will create waves across the world's royal house - recycling in this way has not been trendy if you say so. But now - in 2018 - sustainability and recycling are more trendy than ever, and with role models like Victoria, I suddenly feel that it may be possible to stop the climate crisis in time. Hello Victoria - Your choice of dress is more important than maybe both you and we can understand!"

The Six button tiara or as it's officially called the Karl Johan tiara
Thank you, it was hard to make out the button detail against her hair, regardless it looks good.

IMO, this is the most striking gown of the evening. And if you know the story of Sara Danius and the Swedish Academy, it makes her appearance even more striking.

Sara Danius has had some great dresses during the last years. But this isn't one of them, it is horrible. And "Look at me", totally unnecessary, because everyone would have looked at her anyway.

We can agree to disagree ? It's a Pär Engsheden design, for those interested in designers (the same guy who made Victorias wedding dress).

I guessed it is from Pär Engsheden, Danius wears almost only dresses designed by him.

This year, the Nobel Prize banquet is extended with an hour, so now the guests have more time for dance and mingling.

Aside from Silvia; I think the nominees and other non-royal guests had better fashion choices this evening than the SRF did themselves - it was a bit of a disastrous wardrobe this year IMO!

I totally agree, this dress thingie is sort of a capedress or dresscape and the neckline is strongly reminiscent of drawn back curtains in a colour combination that seers the eyes.

Royal Style - Victoria et Sofia, resplendissantes en l’honneur des prix Nobel

Oh, the Nobel Prize ceremony and the Nobel Banquet are such great events. The Prize ceremony is so festive, starting from the drumroll when the king, queen, Victoria and Daniel arrive and right after that the King's song. And the king delivering the Prizes to the Laureates. The music is wonderful every year. The end of the ceremony with the National Song and The Queen of Sheba’s Festivity March from The Prodigal Son is something I wait every year.

The Banquet starting with that great procession. It is interesting to look at the royals talking with their table partners. And to listen to the Laureates' interviews and presentations of their work. And in the end to hear the Laureates' speeches of thanks in the end of the banquet.

It is always a wonderful evening.
