Countess Bettina Bernadotte inaugurated on Friday King Carl XVI Gustaf's Rhododendron Collection at Sofiero Palace in Helsingborg, Sweden.

Count Michael Bernadotte told about his childhood memories from Sofiero.
https://scontent-arn2-1.xx.fbcdn.net...10&oe=59E363DB

As a gift to King Carl XVI Gustaf on his 70th birthday, The City of Helsingborg gave a completely new planting in his name in the northern Rhododendron ravine of Sofiero. The new rhododendron collection is inspired by the King's grandfather, Gustav VI Adolf, who, with great curiosity and experimental pleasure, built the unique collection that exists with us today.
Kung Carl XVI Gustafs rhododendronkollektion - Sofiero

The first vice-chairman of the Helsingborg city council's Lena Bjerne said at her speech:
- It has become so that when Helsingborg donates a gift to the royal family, it must stay in the city and our citizens must benefit from it. When our city hall opened, Oscar II celebrated the 25th anniversary at the throne. He then received a glass painting in the City Hall as a gift. And when Prince Oscar was born last year, the city gave as a gift a fairytale forest, where children can stay at the trees and listen to fairy tales.
Count Michael Bernadotte of Wisborg, the king's cousin, was also in Sofiero. Among other things, he told us about the memories he has from his visits to Sofiero as a child. It was not only salt bath in the swimming and playing in the park.
- Grandfather wanted to tell about all the plants. He took us on long walks around the whole castle park. He was a big man and went with long, determined steps. It was a little ritual which was done with all visitors, he says.
Countess Bettina Bernadotte, who traveled from Mainau, said at her speech:
- It's a special art to create a garden. Being able to conceive and create something that you may never see or experience yourself. It's good for us people to feel the rhythm of nature, as you do then. It teaches us to love nature and, in the long run, also protect it. Something that's needed today.
- I hope there will be many interested people to wander and look at this path, said Bettina Bernadotte when the ribbon was cut.

Dry rot (Serpula lacrymans) has been found at Mainau Castle roof. It was found when a water damage happened. Without the water damage dry rot would have been noticed some years later. Count Björn Bernadotte says that the renovation costs several million euros and should last at least until 2022.

The Ministry for Finance Baden-Württemberg released on 10th July Art Medal Graf Lennart Bernadotte."The Art Medal honors Count Lennart Bernadotte and his work, which we can admire here on the island of Mainau. His idea was to design the Mainau flower island. He has thus created an oasis of beauty, blossom and harmony from which we all profit. About 1.2 million visitors come here every year. This shows how popular the island is as an excursion destination", said Minister of Finance Edith Sitzmann.

On July 23, 2017, a number of mini-gardeners from different regions completed their two-year mini-gardener course on the island of Mainau. This year, among others, children from Ellwangen, Nürtingen and the Schwarzwald-Baar area were among the graduates.
Once on the Mainau, they were welcomed in the courtyard of the Mainau Castle by countess Bettina Bernadotte, initiator of the "Europa Minigärtner" project.
