Countess Bettina Bernadotte af Wisborg
Council President
Foundation Board Member
Countess Bettina Bernadotte, born 1974 in Scherzingen, Switzerland, is the oldest daughter of Countess Sonja and Count Lennart Bernadotte. Following her degree in Business Administration in Tourism (Destination Management) at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Ravensburg and work as an independent corporate consultant for companies in the tourism industry, she prepared to assume direction of the Mainau enterprise by serving as Personal Assistant to her mother and as Authorized Signatory from 2004 to 2007.
Countess Bettina Bernadotte assumed leadership of Mainau GmbH in 2007 with the goal of leading the family business into a successful future. Above all, she wishes to make a meaningful contribution through Mainau island, so that visitors and guests of the island experience relaxation and deceleration in contact with the garden culture, as well as derive impulses for a sustainable way of life from their visit. Herein, the continuous pursuit of the contents of the “Green Charter of Mainau” from 1961, which calls for the responsible treatment of nature, is another important aspect for Countess Bettina.
Since October 2008, Countess Bettina Bernadotte is president of the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings and member of the Board of the Foundation Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings. She has been a member of the Council since 2005.
Aside from her commitment to the Lindau Meetings, Countess Bettina Bernadotte holds several other honorary positions. She is a member of the Council of Plan International Hamburg and member of the Administrative Council for the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart. As patroness, she is committed to the European Mini Cooks (Europa Miniköche) and has initiated the European Mini Gardeners project (Europa Minigärtner). Both organisations offer children the opportunity to learn the sustainable handling of nutrition and the environment. Since 2016, Countess Bettina Bernadotte is chairwoman of the board of directors for the Mentor Foundation Germany.

An article about countess Bettina Bernadotte at "Mein Ländle" magazin.
"Off to the island! The article on Bettina Countess Bernadotte and the @mainau at Mein Ländle. It was one of my most beautiful researches to date: the Countess is a fascinating woman and the island is really a little paradise."

Every two years Bühler Consulting GmbH invites you to a highlight event on the island of Mainau, the “Company Day Training and Employee Management”. The magic of this event lies in the unique constellation that comes together here: The flower island is one of the most beautiful places in Germany, where your heart opens. The "Alte Comturey" conference venue is located directly on the harbor with a view of the lake and is the setting for a special experience.

Countess Bettina Bernadotte attended the graduation of Heilbronn Mini Gardeners on Mainau on 24th July.
Countess Bettina founded Europa Minigärtners in 2013.
Abschluss auf der Mainau - Europa Minigärtner

Summertime is excursion time: Mainau attracts locals and tourists not only with new and well-known plant art, but also with many informative stations spread all over the island. Unique works of art are also waiting to be discovered by visitors of all ages. Current issues such as sustainability also play an important role.
Countess Bettina Bernadotte, managing director of Mainau, posed also for a photo.
"At the moment, we are absolutely delighted to be able to welcome many visitors to our island again - without a test or a lot of effort. Our view of the future is positive, we are making the best of the conditions, but planning is still sometimes difficult", said the Countess.

Countess Bettina met this summer also Claudia Braunstein, a lifestyle blogger from Salzburg, who tells stories about traveling, food, fashion 50plus and everyday life with disabilities. There are some nice photos from Mainau at the blog.
"I had a short but impressive date with Countess Bettina Bernadotte af Wisborg, as the full name of the managing director of Mainau GmbH is. Impressive because the countess is so down-to-earth, natural and incredibly likable. By the way, she is the eldest of five siblings from the second marriage of Count Lennart Bernadotte, who died in 2004 at the age of 95. When he married a commoner for the first time, he lost his title and all inheritance claims to the Swedish royal family and then withdrew to the Mainau. The Mainau is considered to be his life's work."

Baptism on Mainau Island: New Dahlia is called 'Mainau Romance'
For more than 30 years, dahlias from the French breeder Ernest Turc have been on display at the traditional dahlia show on the island of Mainau, and now, countess Bettina Bernadotte named the decorative dahlia, created by Turc in 2018 and also to be seen in the dahlia garden of Mainau, with the sonorous name 'Mainau Romance'.
“It is always a great pleasure to baptize new plants on the Mainau. Dahlia baptisms are not very common, however, which is why we are all the more pleased today to be able to give one of these natural beauties a name with reference to the flower island”, said countess Bettina.

Nobel Prize Laureate Edmond H. Fischer passed away peacefully in Seattle on 27 August at the age of 101.
Countess Bettina Bernadotte, President of the Council: “Everybody from the Council and the Foundation Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings is deeply saddened by the loss of Edmond H. Fischer, a true Lindau friend – but also grateful for the wealth of experience he leaves to the entire world of science: He truly inspired many young scientists for the ´beauty of science` as he once put it himself. We extend our deep sympathies to Edmond Fischer‘s whole family.”

The Mainau Dahlia Queen is elected digitally for the first time
Since Count Lennart Bernadotte launched the election of the Dahlia Queen on Mainau 70 years ago, visitors to the island have been able to vote for their favorite dahlia every year. This year for the first time the most beautiful of the plants represented in the Mainau dahlia garden will be determined digitally. From September 3rd to October 3rd, people can vote for your personal favorite from among 23 different dahlias. Mainau's garden experts chose these 23 from among a total of around 10,000 plants growing in 225 varieties in the dahlia garden on the island of Mainau.
Countess Bettina Bernadotte says that they are very pleased that they can enable a supraregional choice of dahlias with this innovative and sustainable implementation.

Even Svensk Damtidning knows that their headline about the King's grief over his cousin's death is pure baloney. There was no love lost between the two because of Jan's scandalous lifestyle and his adoptions for cash.

Jan Bernadotte's daughter Rosemarie Bernadotte, 48, lives in Konstanz, she has spoken with Südkurier newspaper.
She says that everyone always said that Jan Bernadotte was really good to party with. But he was never a father. Rosemarie had no real relationship with her father, who was once expelled from the island of Mainau because of his antics by Lennart Bernadotte.

Count Björn Bernadotte was a member of the Jury at the 6. International Food Truck Festival last weekend. He has been a member of the Jury on many years.
Around 20 food trucks transform the brewery area into a large open-air restaurant / creative supporting program for young and old. At the Mainau Island stand, the youngest festival visitors could roll up their sleeves and go to work themselves: children and young people were invited to plant plants. The reward for the work: the aromatic basil plant was allowed to be taken home.

Taxes up for millionaire: inside? | ARTE Re:
The corona crisis has not only exacerbated poverty. The number of millionaires and the super-rich is also growing rapidly. A group of millionaires around the world is therefore campaigning for higher wealth taxation. How does the money elite feel about this?
Countess Bettina Bernadotte and Count Björn Bernadotte, on the other hand, belong to the classic nobility with close ties to the Swedish royal family. The siblings are managing directors of Mainau. The island doesn't belong to the family - not any longer. Around 40 years ago, to prevent inheritance disputes, their parents brought Mainau to a charitable foundation. This also has tax advantages. They take on social responsibility in their own way. Their charitable projects are about Better prospects for children and young people.
The part of countess Bettina and count Björn begins at 18.58, when countess Bettina cycles to her work place at Island of Mainau. They meet the Mini-Gardeners, work together and are interviewed. The clip of them ends at 24.11.

Today and tomorrow, 16-17 September, "Energiesysteme im Wandel – Chancen für die Region" symposium (Changing Energy Systems - Opportunities for the Region) is organized on the Island of Mainau. The conference is organized annually by solarcomplex AG and Mainau GmbH together with the Baden-Württemberg State Forestry Administration and the Lake Konstanz Foundation.
Countess Bettina Bernadotte gave the welcome speech at the conference.

The conference series on Mainau started in 2001, with lectures on solar and wood energy technology as well as a practical exhibition for house builders. For the 20th anniversary, the two-day conference in the island restaurant Comturey is an established platform for exchange for interested citizens, municipal representatives and the energy industry from the region.
"To promote new technical solutions in the climate-friendly energy supply, to adjust to the increasingly clear effects of climate change and not to lose sight of social aspects such as affordability, these are definitely tasks of our time", said countess Bettina Bernadotte, Managing Director of Mainau GmbH in the beginning of the symposium.

Countess Bettina Bernadotte visited "Europe mini-gardeners" in Wickrath.
The group doesn't have a normal meeting that day, they are waiting for a special guest: Countess Bettina Bernadotte from the flower island Mainau is in Mönchengladbach and uses the opportunity to visit the Wickrath group. The Europe Mini Gardener initiative was launched by the Countess and is intended to introduce children step by step to gardening and healthy eating at monthly meetings.
Countess Bettina is right in the middle of it all, the children immediately take possession of the visitor. They show her the insect hotels. “It's really cool what the bees are doing,” she says. “Yes, they go in there,” says Abdel. “Exactly, but they need our help,” Bettina explains.
Bettina has to laugh when a girl bluntly states: “You don't have a crown at all!” But that would only disturb the horticultural work anyway.
Bettina says: “It's great to work with the children and it's nice to see at the end of the project that the children have developed an interest. For example, if you ask where I can buy these seeds because you want to plant something at home”.

In a brief message to interested young scientists, Countess Bettina Bernadotte, President of the Council for the Lindau Meetings, describes how applications for the next meetings are possible.
Applications for #LINO22 are open from 20 September.

Nicole Razavi, the Minister for State Development and Housing for the State of Baden-Württemberg, visited the Mainau Castle Chapel on 7th September. Both count Björn and countess Bettina Bernadotte hosted the visit, photos:

The last stop of the Monument Day took the minister to the Castle Chapel on the island of Mainau. "With its many valuable cultural monuments, including the castle with the castle chapel, the fortifications, as well as the park and gardens, the island of Mainau is one of the most important places in the country", emphasized Minister Razavi. The "flower island" with the count's castle is extremely popular with visitors from near and far and is known far beyond the country's borders.

Count Björn Bernadotte was interviewed at WDR Television's program "Planet Wissen: Der Bodensee - Von Fähren, Fischern und Pfahlbauten", which was broadcasted this morning.
It's a magical place: Der Bodensee (Lake Constance). The largest lake in Germany is so clean that fishermen fear for the food for the fish. People have lived here for thousands of years, because the region is particularly sun-kissed and fertile thanks to its protected location.
Count Björn Bernadotte, managing director of the Flower Island Mainau, and tourism expert Ute Stegmann talk about the beauties of Lake Constance.

"WaPo Bodensee" starts a new season
The team around Nele Fehrenbach has to solve murders, hunt down criminals, but also stop the dramatic hijacking of a ferry in 13 new episodes.
A special highlight is the episode "Dahlia Queen" (expected broadcast date: November 23). Not only was it filmed in full bloom on the flower island of Mainau, but its owner, Count Björn Bernadotte af Wisborg, is also an actor for the first time.

Countess Bettina Bernadotte attended the delivery of Initiative „Natur im Garten International“ prize for special achievements in the field of ecological green space maintenance.
In times of climate change and species extinction, sustainable garden projects are all the more important. The “European Award for Ecological Gardening” wants to take this idea into account. Behind the award, which was launched in 2015, is the “Natur im Garten" movement.
This year the prizes were awarded on the Island of Mainau. The initiative is important to bring people and nature into harmony, says Bettina Bernadotte, Managing Director of Mainau GmbH: "I think we are only gradually understanding how important the garden is for people, both for physical health, because you are simply outside a lot, exercise and also for your mental health, because I can hardly relieve stress in a better place than in the garden."
