The flower island of Mainau, one of the most famous tourist attractions in the southwest, is becoming even more sustainable and is now sourcing gas with a 25 percent share of biogas from its local supplier, Stadtwerken Konstanz. The biogas comes from residues from a sugar beet factory. Among other things, the sugar beet leaves, from which no sugar can be produced and which are therefore usually disposed of, are used in a special biogas plant to produce raw biogas, which is then processed and fed into the natural gas network.
- It is important to us to source environmentally friendly energy as locally as possible in line with our Mainau energy and climate protection concept. In this respect, this fits perfectly with the cooperation between the island of Mainau and the municipal utilities for more climate and environmental protection in Constance, which we want to tackle together, said countess Bettina Bernadotte, managing director of Mainau GmbH.

Coronavirus restrictions – Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings 2020 postponed to next year
The 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting and the 7th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences – both scheduled for this summer – will be postponed: The 70th Nobel Laureate Meeting (Interdisciplinary) will now take place 27 Juni – 2 July 2021, the date for the 7th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences is to be determined. This decision was made by the committees of the Council and the Foundation for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings.
"Until the very end, we had the hope that we could stick to our planning, but the consequences of the spread of the coronavirus particularly affect the participants of our Meetings, the Nobel Laureates and young scientists from all over the world", explains Countess Bettina Bernadotte, President of the Council. "This decision was particularly difficult for us with regards to the young researchers who have shared their enthusiasm and anticipation over social media in the past few weeks. However, we were able to promise them that their invitations will also be valid for 2021. The interruption of the 'Lindau tradition' is also a great disappointment for the Nobel Laureates – for us it is a historic break."
The health of the residents of Lindau, who would normally have welcomed the Meeting participants from over 100 countries, also played an important role in the decision.
“With all the sadness, there is also the opportunity to try out one or the other new thing for future Meetings. We also want to make selected programme items accessible to the public, as we’ve done before. In this case, we can offer these not only to Lindau and the region, but to those interested worldwide", said Countess Bettina Bernadotte.

At the end of last year, Dagmar von Arbin, the king's oldest relative, passed away 103 years old.
She was born in 1916 and was married to Nils-Magnus von Arbin, with whom she had five children: Marianne, Louise, Cathrine, Jeanette and Madeleine.
She was close to the royal family and called the family Bernadotte's "grand old lady".
In mid-March, the estate inventory was ready. In total, she left assets worth more than SEK 3.7 million. Among other things, she owned a kakemono painting from the late 19th century, and an oil painting signed by Prince Eugen, also known as the painting prince.
She also owned a women's portrait and several rococo style furniture that her children and grandchildren will share.

On 24th March the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings sent a press release, that this year's meetings are postponed to 2021.

Countess Bettina Bernadotte, President of the Board of Trustees for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings and member of the Board of the Foundation Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, has written a letter to the website of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings.
Dear friends of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings,
none of us could have imagined the current situation and the far-reaching consequences that we will certainly have to face in the coming time. We have also continuously monitored and evaluated all available information about the new corona virus...
... We did not take the decision lightly and we are aware that many of our long-term business partners will also be affected. We very much regret this, but in the current situation we do not consider ourselves able to organize the 2020 meetings in the usual way. The health of the Lindau population, which would normally have welcomed the conference participants from over 100 countries, also played an important role in our decision.

Although the Island of Mainau is closed due to the corona virus, Mainau published at its Youtube a greeting from countess Bettina and count Björn, from the Orchid Show, which people can now enjoy virtually at this video

As the Island of Mainau is still closed, they publish videos at their Youtube Channel
Mainau orchid expert Stefan Reisch gives you tips on what to consider when caring for phalaenopsis orchids:
- How often should you water your phalaenopsis?
- How much sun can phalaenopsis tolerate?
- Where does phalaenopsis come from?

Mainau Island opens again on May 6th - with restrictions
After seven weeks, the flower island in Lake Constance opens its doors to its guests again - albeit with restrictions. It thus follows the decision of the federal and state governments of Baden-Württemberg to reopen botanical gardens in compliance with official requirements.
The team on the island of Mainau worked intensively on the reopening of the botanical garden - the safety of guests is as important as that of the employees.
"We are pleased that we can open the outside areas of the island of Mainau again as part of the new state regulation. We are already in the process of implementing the official requirements, strict hygiene measures and distance regulations for a safe visit to the park and gardens, and all of our employees will do everything possible to adhere strictly to the requirements", explains Managing Director countess Bettina Bernadotte. "It's time to get used to the new everyday life."
Admission only with a pre-purchased online ticket & time slot
In order to be able to adhere to the maximum number of guests and to reduce the risk of people gathering, especially in the entrance area, tickets are currently only online with a visit day and a specific time slot in which to enter the island can be possible.
The island of Mainau will currently be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. At the moment it can only be reached via the island entrance. The island bus is not used. The restaurants remain closed and various stations on the island offer take-away meals and drinks. The Mainau Träff with a farm shop at the entrance to the island is still open, with its own Mainau products and small dishes to take away. The palm house can be visited, the orchid show has been extended until May 24th. The spring exhibition is also open and has been extended to visitors until July 5. The playgrounds for the little visitors will also be reopened, pony rides will not be offered until further notice.
Increased hygiene and precautionary measures
With a controlled, responsible reopening, the Mainau wants to give visitors the opportunity to enjoy nature, especially in this turbulent time. However, this can only work if everyone adheres to the clear hygiene and behavior guidelines, which is why the hygiene standards in the park and gardens have been increased and occupational safety has also been ensured in the visitor service, taking into account the new requirements of the Federal Ministry of Labor. Among other things, only two people or a household can visit the island of Mainau. In principle, other people must keep a distance of about two meters. Contactless payment is desirable. On the island of Mainau, a variety of precautions have been taken to maintain hygiene and distance, which is indicated in various places in the park by means of posters / displays. The Mainau recommends wearing everyday masks.
Responsibility for guests and society
“The health and safety of our guests and our employees have top priority. In times like these, cohesion and mutual respect are even more important", says count Björn Bernadotte. "In your own interest and in the interests of your fellow human beings, it is therefore important to support us in implementing the necessary measures", he appeals. “We would like to thank our guests in advance for their understanding that they are currently not able to visit the island as spontaneously as they have been used to before and for their help, otherwise we run the risk of taking a step back in the fight against the virus. All of Mainau are very happy to welcome visitors soon for a real walk on the Mainau".

Countess Diana Bernadotte's Hat atelier (GDB-Design) has been open after the corona break since 7th May, and has now a new website.

Gallery
"At the Count's Island Festival and the The Count’s Palace Festival on the island of Mainau, I present the new hat collection from my studio in several fashion shows.
I am actively supported by my siblings, my children and dear friends with a lot of power, fun and creative ideas for the presentation.
In this gallery you will find photos of our photographer Wolfgang Vonier from past fashion shows, which means that the women's model hats have already been sold. But we would be happy to invite you to the next fashion show to fall in love with one of the hats from the new collection."

Here she is - Crown Princess Victoria's (to many) unknown relative! 31-year-old Elsa Bernadotte has the last name that makes everyone cringe, but her super career as an entrepreneur she has created entirely of her own strength.
In 2015, she founded the food app Karma, which conveys food that restaurants, cafes and shops would otherwise have thrown away. All for half the price and to 1.3 million users.
Elsa is the daughter of the king's third cousin Carl Bernadotte, 64, and his wife Lotta, 65, and grew up on the estate Frötuna in Rasbo outside Uppsala, where the king's father often hunted.
- I have many fond memories from all the visits that I and my family made at Frötuna Estate, where we were always met by a great hospitality and a dear family community, the king has told to Svensk Damtidning.
And soon Elsa Bernadotte steps out in the royal spotlight: She and Prince Daniel will both be involved when his Fellowship broadcasts live from the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences now on Wednesday.
It will be an encouraging event that appeals to Sweden's young people and Elsa Bernadotte will, among other things, talk about how she became an entrepreneur after dropping off the prestige job at Chanel - and how she then found her business idea.
Kronprinsessan Victorias okända släkting! _ Svensk Dam

Elsa Bernadotte was a mentee at Prince Daniel's Fellowship and its entrepreneurial programme in 2017-2019. Elsa's great-grandparents were count Carl Bernadotte af Wisborg and baroness Marianne de Geer af Leufsta.

This Elsa Bernadotte? Daughter of Carl Bernadotte, Count af Wisborg (*1955) and Countess Charlotte, nee Urban (*1954)?

Why would the last name Bernadotte make anyone cringe in egalitarian Sweden?

Royal expert and author Roger Lundgren's memorial words of Dagmar von Arbin in Fokus are now open for everyone, previously it was behind a paywall.
Even with our current royal family, there was a lot of contact. Dagmar von Arbin lived the last years of her life at a retirement home in Nockeby in Bromma - very close to Drottningholm Palace. Had it been celebrated somewhere with the royal relatives, the royal couple always insisted on taking Dagmar home, and each time the king escorted Dagmar up to the apartment door. "You can think that the aunts in the home were watching", Dagmar laughed afterwards.
The future of the monarchy in Sweden never worried Dagmar over. She had good contact with Crown Princess Victoria and was very impressed with Princess Estelle's way of dealing with the public interest despite her young age.
At the royal weddings, children's baptisms and birthday parties of recent years, Dagmar always participated as one of the guests of honor and then became a bit of a celebrity for the many TV viewers around the country. After all, it was true that, more than anyone else, she brought the Bernadotte family together through so many years.

Tomorrow and on Sunday on Mainau Island
Midsummer weekend 2020
Experience Sweden with the whole family
Midsummer, the festival for the summer solstice, has a long tradition in Sweden and the other Nordic countries, where it doesn't really get dark at night during this time of year. It is one of the largest festivals of the year and is celebrated with relatives, neighbors and friends on Saturday closest to the longest day of the year. The Bernadotte family, who have their roots in Sweden, would like to bring this Swedish tradition closer to the guests of the island of Mainau:
But everything is a little different this year. Around the Rothaus Seeterrassen, we have put up information boards for you about the typical Swedish traditions on midsummer, which provide information about one of the most beautiful festivals. A maypole will also be visible and in the park you will be able to discover many Swedish decorations.

Lindau Online Science Days 2020
From 28 June – 1 July the scientific world will gather for the Online Science Days 2020 of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings. Normally, the two meetings planned for 2020 would have been held in Lindau, and Germany would have had the pleasure of welcoming hundreds of the world’s best young scientists as well as many Nobel Laureates. This year, we will gather online instead, for a digital exchange between different generations, cultures, and disciplines.
