State Visit from Chile
On 10–12 May 2016, Chile's President Michelle Bachelet will pay a State Visit to Sweden at the invitation of His Majesty the King. This is the first State Visit from Chile to Sweden. The Government will be involved, with several ministers participating.

State Visit programme points
Tuesday 10 May
The first day of the State Visit traditionally comprises several ceremonial elements. It will begin on the Tuesday morning when the King and Queen will meet the President at the Royal Stables for a procession to the Royal Palace, where an official welcoming ceremony will take place. Representatives of the Riksdag and the Government will be present. A musical setting can be expected as Stockholm will be hosting the Eurovision Song Contest that week.
Prime Minister Stefan Löfven will receive President Bachelet at Rosenbad in the afternoon for talks, followed by a joint press briefing.
Tuesday's programme will end with a banquet hosted by the King and Queen at the Royal Palace.

Wednesday 11 May
Wednesday's programme will begin with a seminar and meetings about trade and business sector issues. There will then be programme points concerning gender equality and equal opportunities, with representatives of the Government, the business sector and civil society.
Stockholm City will then host a lunch at City Hall.
After the lunch, Speaker of the Riksdag Urban Ahlin will receive President Bachelet at the Riksdag.
In the evening, the President will host a reciprocal reception for the Swedish hosts.

Thursday 12 May
The third day of the State Visit will take place in Gothenburg. The theme of the day will be innovative and climate-smart transport solutions in urban environments.
The County Governor of Västra Götaland County will host a lunch, after which the State Visit will end.

So Johan T Lindwall was right, the state visit is on the same week as the Final of the Eurovision Song Contest. One could also guess that by looking at the royal calendar, that week had so far only one work event on Sunday 15th.
 
This is exciting news! I hope that Victoria will attend at least the banquet. Is there a chance the queen and/or the other royal women (if they attend) will wear a tiara?

Well, as they use the term "banquet" now for almost every dinner i guess we have to wait until the actual day and see wether there will be orders and tiaras worn. If it is a black tie dinner it must be the first state visit dinner in Sweden for an extremly long time that is not white tie.

As it is the first chilean state visit ever to Sweden i guess that the King and maybe also the Queen will recive a Chilean order and President Bachelet will recive the Order of the Seraphim.

As you say, we could never know about the dress code, but I'm quite convinced that the state banquet will be white tie with tiaras and orders.

I checked the website of the Royal Court and the King already has a Chilean order, Grand cross with collar of the Order of Merit. The King must have received the Order at the Royal Couple's state visit to Chile in 1996. They visited President and Mrs Eduardo Frei between 2-5 December. I don't know if Queen Silvia has a Chilean order, it is very much possible.
 
I doubt Victoria will miss it :flowers: Its two months after she gave birth to Oscar and I don't take her to be one for a long maternity leave. At the very least I expect to see her at the banquet. Sofia on the other hand, depending on when in April she gives birth, the chances seem much slimmer.

I hope it is the traditional white tie. Love the Swedish events, they have such a collection of tiaras.

Victoria will most likely take a huge part in this state visit unless she is sick. She will probably attend the banquet and other things when her father turns 70 too :)

As you say Sofia might not attend the banquet but other things. Probably depends on how she feels that particular day.

Saw now that C G has the chilean merit. According to Wikipedia Silvia has no chilean order. Maybe she'll get one now. C G probably got it during that state visit wich was the first swedish state visit ever to Chile. Strangely there is no evidence that President Frei Jr got the seraphim during that visit.
Bachelet will likely get the seraphim now as the first chilean President ever to pay a formal state visit to Sweden. But that doesn't say anything about the dress code for the dinner.

How i hate the word "Banquet" when it comes to the royal family ! There should be gala dinner or no dinner ;-) hahah

About Victoria's attendance:
Estelle was born on 23rd February. The new president of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, made a state visit to Sweden on 17-18 April. Victoria attended at the first day only at the lunch at the Royal Palace and posed at the welcoming photos. She didn't attend at the banquet.
On the second day Victoria attended at the reception which the presidential couple held in honor of the king and queen, the reception was much shorter than the banquet on the first day.
Oscar is during the time of the Chilean state visit two weeks older than Estelle was in 2012.

A more detailed program has been published at the website of the Swedish government. I could only find it in Swedish, but I have tried to translate it.

Tuesday 10th May
The state visit will start in traditional ways. The President is greeted at the Royal Mews by the King for a cortege to the Royal Palace. A welcome ceremony is held at the Royal Palace upon arrival, with representatives from the Swedish Parliament and Government.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven receives President Bachelet at Rosenbad during the afternoon for deliberations. Afterwards there is joint press meeting.

A short visit to the Adolf Fredrik Cemetery. There is no explanation to the visit to the cemetery, but the Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme is buried at this cemetery.

The President and the King and Queen visit Fryshuset in Stockholm. Johan Oljeqvist, CEO Fryshuset, Anja Frey, Manager Fryshuset in Stockholm, Camila Salazar Atìas, responsible for social projects, and Emilia Bjuggren, Vice Mayor City of Stockholm.

The first day of the state visit is concluded by a banquet hosted by the King and Queen at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

Wednesday 11th May
President Bachelet and the King participate in High-Level Business Meeting and Swedish-Chilean Business Forum. The Swedish Government is represented by the Minister for Enterprise and Innovation Mikael Damberg.

Talks on Eqaulity and Equity between President Bachelet, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Muñoz, and the Minister for Women Pascual together with the Minister for Children, the Elderly and Gender Equality Åsa Regnér and the Minister for Health Care, Public Health and Sport Gabriel Wikström. A number of experts will take part in the talks.

The City of Stockholm hosts a luncheon in the Stockholm City Hall attended by President Bachelet and the King and Queen. The guests are welcomed by the Mayor of Stockholm Karin Wanngård, the Chairperson of the City Council Eva-Louise Erlandsson Slorach and Deputy Chairperson of the City Council Margareta Björk.

President Bachelet is received by the Speaker of the Riksdag Urban Ahlin in the Parliament building.

In the evening is a return reception arranged for the Swedish hosts.

Thursday 12th May
The third day of the state visit takes place in Gothenburg with focus on innovations and climate-smart transportations in cities.

President Bachelet and the King and Queen are welcomed to Gothenburg by the County Governor of Västra Götaland County Lars Bäckström and the Mayor of Gothenburg Ann-Sofie Hermansson. The Swedish Government is represented by the Minister for Infrastructure Anna Johansson.

President Bachelet and the King and Queen visit AstraZeneca and will take part in their work on research and development with smaller and innovative companies.

Visit to Volvo in Torslanda, Gothenburg to take part in their latest work on climate-smart solutions for transportation.

The guests go by bus from Volvo to Lindholmen Science Park, where they will go for a short boat trip trough the Port of Gothenburg.

County Governor of Västra Götaland County Lars Bäckström hosts a luncheon.

The state visit is concluded by a farewell ceremony at Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport.

On 11 May, President Michelle Bachelet will visit the Riksdag. The President will be unveiling Chile's gift to the Riksdag, a bust of Ambassador Harald Edelstam. After the ceremony, President Bachelet will deliver a speech. The ceremony will be attended by the King and Queen, the Speaker, members of the Riksdag and specially invited guests. After the President's speech, members of the Riksdag will have the opportunity to put questions. The speech and question-and-answer session will be broadcasted via the Riksdag webcast service.

usually the Swedish Court has an odd listing of attendees when it comes to State visits. I guess they will take part in the welcome ceremony and the lunch at the Palace and the banquet in the evening. For the second day the lunch in the City Hall and the return arrangement are possible events they attend.

The president's agenda at her website tells that Victoria, Daniel, Carl Philip and Sofia will attend at the lunch at 12.30. No mention about that at the court website. We will see.

If she's feeling good there is no reason for her to not do occasional royal duties. I'm glad that both Victoria and Sofia are seen now and then, even though no one would blame them if they were on a full parental leave.
 
:previous: I agree, if she was feeling up to it, no need for her to hide away at home. Alexander will be fine and happy with a nanny, and Sofia likely enjoyed getting out and being part of things at least for a bit.

As Alexander is so young i did not expect Sofia at the dinner though i must say i was a little bit surprised that Victoria did not attend the dinner when she was present earlier in the day and attended the banquet on her fathers birthday.
But ofcourse i understand her.

Christina and Tord usually spend most of their time at their home in France during this time of the year so i did not expect them. It's quite sad that no one else of the King's sisters are taking parts in these events.

Great anyway to finally see an incoming state visit from Chile, my homecountry during my first 7 months of life, before i was adopted to Sweden.
 
At the banquet Silvia and Daniel wore red sashes and CP wore blue. I'm guessing they're tied to Chile, but what do they represent and why the different colors?

I wasn't surprised at all that Victoria didn't attend at the dinner. She didn't attend at the dinner of the finnish state visit in 2012 (although she was present at the photos and lunch) and Oscar is now only about two weeks older than Estelle was then. The king's birthday was an exceptional event, Victoria is the heir to the throne and it was expected that she would hold a speech to her father and attend at the banquet with the royal guests.

Of the orders, I think that the King got the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit with collar, here's a photo

Chile's president expressed thanks to Sweden on Tuesday for helping thousands of Chileans escape persecution during the dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet.
On the first-ever state visit by a Chilean president to the Nordic country, Michelle Bachelet highlighted the efforts of the Swedish prime minister at the time, Olof Palme, and Harald Edelstam, who was the country's ambassador to Chile.
"Chile will never stop being grateful for that helpful hand," Bachelet told reporters in Stockholm.
Her father was arrested and tortured for opposing Pinochet's 1973 coup and died in police custody.
