Lovely story on how she fell in love with Hansi. I appreciate her openness in the interview, without giving away too much royal privacy.
Her and Hansi must have had so much respect for each other that they never formally divorced.

I like that. There are other examples like Princess Irene of the Netherlands and the late Duke of Parma, or the Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson: both couples divorced but never remarried and always remained on very good terms with each other. In hindsight they could have chosen Princess Birgitta's way: living separate lives but no formal divorce.
 
Margareta Thorgren, the director of the press department, said to Svensk Damtidning that because princess Birgitta's 80th birthday party tomorrow is a private event, they can't comment which family members are attending and about the guest list. But Thorgren confirmed that all four king's sisters are attending.

Princess Birgitta had lunch at Lisa Elmqvist at Östermalm Market Hall with her sisters (except Christina), children and friends, there were about 20 people. The guests sang Happy Birthday to Birgitta. Birgitta said that she is very grateful for all the congratulations and greetings.

Princess Birgitta said to Expressen that Madeleine and Chris will attend at the birthday party. At least she hopes so, they are in Sweden. Birgitta said that Victoria and Daniel are abroad. Expressen asked where they are and Birgitta said that she doesn't know. Expressen has tried to contact Margareta Thorgren for a comment about their trip. And it has been known before that Carl Philip and Sofia are on a long holiday in South Africa and will not attend.

Margareta Thorgren didn't want to commento to Svensk Damtidning, if Chris stayed with the children or if he arrives later, Thorgren said that it is a private party and they don't comment the guest list.

Expressen tells that princess Birgitta has another birthday party in Mallorca with her friends who live there.
Princess Birgitta arrived to Sweden on Tuesday and returns to Mallorca on Saturday. At the birthday party at Drottningholm Palace court singer Loa Falkman sang "Ja må hon leva" (The Swedish Birthday song) to her.

One of the guests, Alexandra Charles, told to Expressen that king Carl Gustaf held a loving speech to his sister.
- It was a fine speech in which he paid tribute to his sister. He expressed his pleasure that she returns to Sweden at times and stays here, even though she lives in Mallorca. It had warmth - and a lot of humor.
How the humor was shown?
- I do not want to tell too much about the speech or evening, it was a private event and it shall stay as such, I think. But it was a very good evening. The evening was very warm, generous, nice and familiar. Princess Birgitta was charmed by the fine party, Alexandra Charles says.

Princess Birgitta visited Hong Kong in the end of November 2016. She is the patron of The Royal Sweden Hong Kong Society.

The VTC was extremely honoured to have received H.R.H. Princess Birgitta of Sweden and her delegation from the Royal Sweden Hong Kong Society, the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship and its students.
The Princess and her delegation was impressed by the advanced and well-equipped facilities in the training restaurant and kitchen which she highly commended.

Princess Birgitta has been at a party at new restaurant La Perla in Puerto Portals in Mallorca. According to Svensk Damtidning, she attended at a birthday party of her friend Ulla Holm's grandchild. Princess Birgitta has for a long time been a regular customer at restaurant La Perla in Catalina.

Princess Birgitta didn't this year participate at the annual charity golf event Barngolfen which was played yesterday. The tournament is played in benefit of The Queen Silvia's Children's Hospital. Princess Birgitta has played at the tournament almost every year.
 
Svensk Damtidning published in their last week's issue an interview of singer Barbro "Lill-Babs" Svensson. Lill-Babs said about her friend princess Birgitta:
- Birgitta is a wonderful girl, very lovely and straightforward. She is a devil on golf, has so good taste with clothes and you can hang anything on to her. But she is careful with the food and it doesn't help how much I nag to her that she should eat more.
In October Lill-Babs and Birgitta and their friend Mona Tumba will play golf in Florida and attend at SWEA (Swedish Women's Educational Association International) South Florida's 25th anniversary celebration.
- It will be so much fun!, said Lill-Babs.

Crown Princess Victoria had a wish for her 40th birthday - that the four Haga princesses would attend. And they did so.
On Monday, Princess Margaretha was seen together with Queen Silvia in Solliden. But princess Birgitta has left Öland and gone back to Mallorca, where she has lived for many years - and she has a fine memory from the 40th anniversary.
- It was fantastic as usual, she says.
But now it's Mallorca and there will be a lot of golf in the summer - in addition to a trip to Munich already this week.
- I play golf every day. That's what I enjoy the most. And all this what is in Mallorca of course. I live a normal life like everyone else. There isn't anything remarkable. I enjoy the sun and the warmth and all nice people, good friends and my usual life.
Do you enjoy yourself?
- Absolutely I do, but Sweden is fine, it could have been a bit warmer but it was a beautiful weather. But it was perfect as usual, she continues, telling that there will be a new Sweden visit already in September when she has a "golf story".
Carl Philip and Sofia are waiting for their second child.
But you may come to the baptism and Te deum?
- Yes, we will see what fits into my program, says Birgitta.

Queen Silvia, king Carl Gustaf, princess Birgitta and Birgitta's daughter Désiree with husband Eckbert von Bohlen und Halbach attended on 23rd July at a charity concert at Prinzregententheater in Munich. The concert was held for the benefit of World Childhood Foundation and Desideria Care, an initiative of Désirée von Bohlen und Halbach. Desideria Care supports people with dementia after the Swedish method "Silviahemmet" in cooperation with Maltesern.

Now Desideria Care e.V. has their own website, and Désirée von Bohlen und Halbach is active at the association:

The XXVI edition of the traditional Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Birgita de Suecia Golf Competition is played at the Golf Santa Ponsa in Mallorca from 7th to 9th September. On 6th September is an official practice day and a cocktail party in the evening. On 8th September there will be Barbacue at Santa Ponsa II. In the evening of 9th September there will be Gala dinner and Awards Ceremony.

Princess Brigitta is currently in Florida. Yesterday, October 5, she was given a tour of Myrtha Barris' new art school in Palm Beach Gardens. Today Brigitta will be the guest of honour at the official opening:

Myrtha Barris will have a royal inauguration for her new art studio Friday, thanks to a visit from Swedish Princess Birgitta.
Barris gave plein air painting lessons in Sweden this summer at the invitation of one of her Swedish students. Princess Birgitta, the older sister of King Carl XVI Gustaf, will be her honored guest, she said.

Birgitta gave a large interview to Svensk Damtidning and its reporter Anna von Koch, when she was in Florida together with her friend Barbro "Lill-Babs" Svensson to attend among other things at SWEA South Florida's 25th anniversary celebration. They were staying at their friend Mona Tumba. On the day of the interview Birgitta and Lill-Babs had had a golf round with Mona's son, golf pro Johan Tumba. Parts of interview:

Birgitta is talkative when there are only few people but she says that she becomes shy and stiff at big events, which are the worst she knows. She thinks her brother is like that too, but he can't avoid those events. Birgitta says that she has fought with her shyness whole her life and of course it has become better. Even though Birgitta is 80 years old, she has great physique and she plays golf many hours a day with her german friends in Mallorca. She has inherited the interest to sports from her father, prince Gustaf Adolf. The prince, who was called Edmund, was a playful and innovative father, who took time to play with her princesses and cuddle with his little prince, "the duke". Edmund taught the girls to skate and ride, and let them travel with their skis being pulled with his car or stand at the car's footboard when he drove around at the park. It made princess Sibylla furious. Only some days after Birgitta's 10th birthday, which had been celebrated with a masquerade, Birgitta's father died. Birgitta says that she was her father's girl, so much like him in many things. He is still in her thoughts and has become Birgitta's idol. Haga Palace had to be renovated and princess Sibylla with her children moved to the Royal Palace in 1950, the plan was that they should move back after a year, but the children had such a good time at the city with their friends that they stayed in Stockholm.
When Birgitta turned 18 years old, she got her driving licence and bought an own MG sports car. It was white and two-seated. Birgitta says that it was super cute but the only one in Stockholm and of course everyone noticed it. She was studying to be a gymnastics manager and met her first love, ice hockey player Sven "Tumba" Johansson. Birgitta says that he was funny and they had a great time together but that lasted only a year when they were at the school together. But they were friends until his death. He was one of the few who could just call and ask how I was doing, says Birgitta. And it was through Sven Birgitta got to know Mona, who married Sven ("Tumba" Johansson changed his last name to Tumba).
Birgitta met the love of her life, prince Johann Georg of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen at a language trip in Munich some years later. Birgitta says that she fell in love immediately and after three weeks she knew she would marry him. But then at the Summer Olympics in Rome 1960 Birgitta met charming italian count Bino Cicogna. He courted Birgitta intensively for three days and gave her even a signet ring as a token of his love. For Birgitta he was a "man of dreams" and she returned to Sweden with a smile on her face. But when Hansi saw the ring, he got very jealous. He took the ring off from Birgitta's finger and threw it away. Then he proposed Birgitta at the kitchen entrance of the Palace. Birgitta has told previously that she was happiest in the beginning of her marriage, but after that hers and Hansi's differences became more and more clear. She loved to do sports, something which Hansi didn't understand at all.
One summer Birgitta and her children were invited to Mallorca by her friend Olga Lallerstedt. Birgitta fell at once in love with Mallorca and has lived there since 1990. Hansi and Birgitta stayed married and were close, but she had her life in Mallorca and he his life in Munich. Now Birgitta is a widow, but she has a big and lovely family in Germany, where she visits often. She met her grandchildren in October.
Birgitta meets her big family in Sweden more seldomly. But during crown princess Victoria's 40th birthday she and her siblings gathered in Solliden Palace. Birgitta says that it is always as much fun when they meet. They don't see each other often, but it doesn't matter. It feels like they have never separated when they meet. The siblings had good dinners, talked and enjoyed about the Palace where they spent summers as children and which they all love. It had been 30 years since Birgitta had been in Solliden, and the king gave her a two and a half hours long tour. Birgitta says that the king was so proud over the Solliden garden that it was cute to see.
Soon Birgitta leaves Florida and goes back to her beloved Mallorca. Even though she loves her friends, she misses her home. Birgitta says that sometimes it is lovely to have some time alone.

Svensk Damtidning had on its newest issue an article about princess Birgitta in Florida in October, where she attended among others SWEA (Swedish Women's Educational Association International) South Florida's 25th anniversary celebration.
Birgitta and Barbro "Lill-Babs" Svensson (who sang at SWEA's party) stayed at their friend Mona Tumba's apartment. They could have gone to a hotel, but they thought it was cozier to stay at Mona's place. The three of them have been friends for 55 years. Birgitta got an own room, she is not used to share a room with anyone. Besides, Birgitta is the one of them who gets up early in the morning and goes to the kitchen. The happy trio loves long breakfasts and they love to shop and have a nice dinner together. When they are out at an event with people, Mona and Barbro call Birgitta respectfully "princess". And Birgitta, who is shy when there is a lot of people around, has safety when her friends are with her. Birgitta says: You help and support me, and you don't leave me.

About princess Birgitta's trip to Hong Kong in December:
The delegation led by the Chamber, traditionally attended the Hong Kong Forum, which gathers delegates from all over the world to meet with senior executives from Hong Kong, receive updates on the latest insights and network. The Patron the Chamber of Commerce, H.R.H Princess Birgitta of Sweden accompanied the delegation and met with the Chief Executive of Hong Kong S.A.R. Mrs Carrie Lam during the Forum.

- I and some friends will play golf together this morning, after that we will eat and drink well. But just a little. Then in the evening there will be another dinner here, with even more friends. And we will also eat and drink well!

- It will be a great celebration. It feels great fun. It is a mixed composite of friends and family. My son is here.
But coming home to Stockholm and celebrating with the entire royal family, like last year, is not relevant.
- Absolutely not, why should I do that? I was in Stockholm last year and celebrated with everyone.
No, Birgitta feels like home at her beloved Majorca.

Barbro "Lill-Babs" Svensson was one of Sweden's most famous and popular artists.
The royal family has been informed of her death - and now she is mourned by one of her closest friends, princess Birgitta.
- I'm desperate, she said on a phone from Mallorca.
Over the years, "Lill-Babs" has met and socialized with many from the royal family, especially the king's sister, "Haga princess" princess Birgitta. The two have become close friends and in 2017, "Lill-Babs" performed at Birgitta's 80th birthday party at Drottningholm Palace.
- How to react? You are sad. There are no words for this. I have followed this last week and knew that it would unfortunately happen. But I'm heartbroken. That's all I can say, says Princess Birgitta.
She has followed her close friend's state of health from Mallorca where she lives.
- I am sad to have lost such a nice and good friend with such a big heart. It's sad.

- It's been a little while ago, actually.
Did you talk about death?
- No, no, no, there was no such thing. Thank God for that.
Now, Princess Birgitta is planning a trip to Sweden to commemorate "Lill-Bab's" memory at the funeral.

Princess Birgitta has been in Trelleborg on Thursday and Friday.

Few UF companies (Young Enterprise) manage to attract royals to their events, but Beneficial Events UF has succeeded.
On Thursday, Trelleborg will be given a royal visit when princess Birgitta visits the city. She will attend an event created by the UF Company Beneficial Events from Sundgymnasiet in Vellinge.
- We will hold two events in favor of Jontefonden. It is a foundation whose goal is to put a golden edge on everyday life for young people who will be going through an organ transplant operation. Princess Birgitta comes here to attend our event, says Miki Petersson, who is project manager at the company.
How did you manage to attract her to your event?
- Our CEO Melvin Ivholt and his family are neighbors with her in Mallorca. So they have talked about our event and purpose and she was really interested. So it ended that she wanted to join the event. It will be super cool. It is a great honor that she wants to come here. We are very grateful, it is unlikely to be the case when it comes to UF companies.
