Thank you everybody for all the links to pictures and videos!
It's great to see all the family together.

For comparison, here is a video from the solemn opening of the Riksdag 1974, which was the last time that ceremony was held.

It doesn't happen much in the first half of the video so you can skip ahead to around 29 minutes into the video, that's when things start happening.

Thank you. It was a great video, with not only the King and Princess Christina but also Prince Bertil and Olof Palme. Hjärtligt tack.

Expressen tells at their webpage that they will have a Live-TV at 11.00-11.30 and from 12.00, so obviously they will show the arrival to the church service. Probably Aftonbladet will have a Live-TV too, no info about that yet. We have to follow their websites to get the link when the Live-TV starts.

My goodness! They look more like they are at a funeral! And is there any significance for the empty chair between the king and Victoria?

To me they look quite normal, here in Finland the dress code is also dark suite and black outfits for women at the opening of the Parliament. I could not think that people would wear colourful outfits at the opening of the Parliament, it is one of the most important events of the year in political life and then you dress in black or at least dark clothes, some white can also be used. Otherwise the event would lack all the dignity. But in Sweden it seems there is some change going on since some people wore colourful outfits.
The chair between the king and Victoria wasn't empty, the Speaker of the Parliament, Per Westerberg sat in it.

Queen Silvia chose to wear black outfits with some white details to honor the traditional Swedish court dress that was used during the opening of parlament and that was abolished in the 70-ties (?).

Nice that Chris and Madelaine stayed around for the opening of parlament.

The empty chair belongs to the speaker of the house, Per Westerberg, and he was speaking when the pic was taken :)

And the somber clothes are left overs from when the parliament was opened at the palace and the women wore the black and white court dress (until 1974).

Madeleine was planned to stay in Sweden until September 25, when she has the last event in her calendar. Chris has prolonged his stay and will attend at the reception on Thursday.

You took the words right out of my mouth!!! These pics are hysterical, everyone is either half asleep, asleep, or looking like they want to be anywhere else but where they are LOL!!!!

Since it is a dignified and solemn event, it is understandable that they look serious. Victoria and Daniel had a little fun though.

Yes, that's what I was talking about! Obviously not the most stimulating of events. Although I must say I appreciate the background information about the dress code, and the empty seat. Thank you.

Victoria and Daniel had a little fun though. Yes, but her father doesn 't look too impressed with them though. ;)

True! His eyes seem to be telling them off.
I wondered on several occasions about the feelings of the king towards his children, and generally come to the conclusion that his main feelings are just frustration: something like "how can I make myself more attractive?"

If I understood it correctly, while they were on the balcony on Sunday, there were some wishes from the crowd to Daniel, who had his birthday. I think he witdrew himself rather quickly to stop them, but still I doubt the king appreciated.
