Opening of Parliament, Riksdagen 2003-2023

Well, at least with the compulsory black for the ladies, they do not have to change clothes because of the death of the Kings aunt.

I find it very curious how Prince Daniel is always shoved aside when his wife is not there. If being in the line of succession is a prerequisite, will we see Daniel walking behind Prince Nicholas when his wife is absent? He is and will be a core member of the RF while the others are not. In my own country it would have been unthinkable that Princess Máxima would have walked behind Friso and Constantijn or in Belgium Princess Mathilde behind Astrid and Laurent. During the maternity leaves of CPss Beatrix, the late Prince Claus always came immidiately after his parents-in-law and before the rest of the family, f.e. during the state openings of parlament in 1968 and 1969.

During the evening the Queen seems to be wearing something that could have been made by Natan, though of better quality. Princess Madeleine looks pretty and relaxed but the outfit and shoes are quite out there.

The outfits during the day didn't seem to memorble. I am surprised to say this but for once I do think that Princess Sofia was the best dressed. I am longing for a proper hat on all ladies, though the people who are sitting behind them will be grateful to them for not doing so.

The ladies wore black today as the court is in mourning due to death of the kings aunt in law,Countess Gunnila Bernadotte af Wisborg.

I'm not sure about other years.

The ladies of the Royal Family is always in black and white during the State Opening of the Parliament as a reference to the old court dresses. The court dress was worn until 1974 when the Opening took place in the Hall of State at the Royal Palace.

Is there some reason why the public are absent? Not one person was standing waiting to see the procession from the palace.

I know the Royal House has managed to add some more decorum (black and white dresscode, the use of carriages, etc.) but the Opening of Parliament is still extremely sober for my eyes.

Anyway, it is better than in Belgium and Luxembourg (no any State Opening at all with the monarch involved) or in Spain (only the first session of the new Parliament) or in Denmark (the monarch is an onlooker and has no active role).

Great to hear some Abba music at the opening of the parliament! For those of you following this live: Johan Norberg and Nils Landgren is well known jazz musicians. This is their unplugged version.
