On another note, I'm sure that this has been said before several times in the thread, but I wish that the males in the Swedish royal family would also participate in wearing Swedish national costume and not leave it to the women/girls in the family. Did previous Kings and Princes wear such costumes on the National Day?
I can understand very well why the men in the Royal Family don't wear the male version of the Sweden dress - here is the female host of the National Day concert dressed in men's Sweden dress last year.
https://peterharold.files.wordpress....svt-6-juni.jpg

I really don't want to see king Carl Gustaf or prince Daniel wear that costume...

And once again Daily Mail is wrong. Victoria's dress is from swedish By Malina, not Self Portrait.

Well, I just think what's sauce for the gander ought to be the same for the goose. Perhaps the women don't like to wear long skirts and traditional shoes either. But they do, and they pose next to their male relatives in suits.

Victoria and Daniel were in a good mood and joked with each other.
In 2008, Crown Crown Princess Victoria was at Strömsholm Palace and planted an oak in the Palace Park.
Now - ten years later - she and Prince Daniel were in place on the grounds to celebrate the national day. Then they passed the oak and watched how it had grown.
- You did that well, said Prince Daniel to his wife and gave her a pat on her shoulder.
The Crown Princess nodded and then went up to the hill where the tree was planted. But she was a little afraid with her high heels in the terrain.
- You have Daniel, who rescues, exclaimed one of the many spectators gathered to see the Crown Princess couple's visit.
It evoked a joking but sassy pass from Crown Princess Victoria.
- That's what you think!
Prince Daniel laughed good at his wife's joke and then they continued on a tour of the Palace's property.
After that, Crown Princess Victoria held a speech inside the Palace area, where she among other things praised those who are currently struggling to extinguish the forest fires in Sala.
- I would like to express my support and my gratitude to all the civil servants, the Armed Forces and volunteers who are currently struggling to extinguish the forest fires in Sale just a few miles from here.
- To those and to everyone who engages ideally, I want to say: thank you! You are one of the finest and strongest in our country. It is one of many things that we will be proud of and as we celebrate today on Sweden's National day.
The Crown Princess couple's visit to Strömsholm Palace began with opening of a Horse museum that opens up at the Palace.
Special for the museum is that visitors use an app in their mobile phone where they receive an audio loop based on where in the museum they are using, using GPS technology.
The Crown Princess tried the phone and the app, and promised to show Dad the King how this worked, following a wish from the museum's project manager.
- It works, said Crown Princess Victoria gladly.
Video of Victoria's speech at the article.

The king, queen, Victoria, Daniel, Estelle and Oscar were at the first carriage at the cortege, Carl Philip, Sofia, Madeleine and Chris at the other.

Wow, group photos before leaving the Palace! What a surprise! Photos from the cortege will be updated here.

SVT sends the concert from Skansen delayed at SVT1 and SVT Play at 20.00.
The Swedish National Day is celebrated traditionally at Skansen, hosted by Anne Lundberg and with the royal family as honorary guests. Darin, Marianne Mörck and David Lindgren, among others, perform on the Solliden scene. Next, live National Day Talk Show with Program Manager Tara Moshizi. The broadcast ends with a Tapto by the Army Music Corps from the Royal Palace.

Estelle is coming to the concert for the first time! Oscar has been taken to the car to a way home. Usually it has been the Westlings who have followed the cortege in a car and taken Estelle home.

Exciting for Oscar...

I like that Sofia also started wearing the traditional shoes. Victoria has always worn them, as far as I can remember. I very much prefer those than Madeleines high heels.

Thank you very one for the wonderful pictures from the National Day. It was great seeing the picture of Oscar smiling with Estelle but I noticed that Prince Oscar and the King have the same grumpy expression most of the time. I guess after the radiant Princess Estelle everyone looks a little grumpy, I swear that little girl was sprinkled with fairy dust when she was born, she is such a delightful child!!

Sad I almost missed this. I always love photos of this event. I do think that if the women have to, the men should wear traditional garb.

Love Estelle. She always makes me smile at these events

It looks as if Estelle enjoyed her first national day concert, it was really nice to see her attend - I love the capes that the family were wearing.
The photo of Estelle and Oscar is adorable, I particularly love the way Estelle has her arm around her younger brother. She seems to be a very caring older sister.

Victoria said in her speech in Strömsholm among other things:
I can imagine that it was just the expectation that my grandfather, Prince Gustaf Adolf, felt when he started 90 years ago at the army riding and driving school here at Strömsholm.
A place where people have worked with horses since Gustav Vasa's time. And where we have today opened the first horse museum in the Nordic region!
For almost a whole year my grandfather spent here, as a student of what was called "Long Course". Here he got an intensive education in various riding disciplines - and, of course, many opportunities to compete.
For a horse-interested 22 year old, it must have been pure dream (...)
Just like at my grandfather's day, Strömsholm is currently populated by people who are passionate about horses and equestrian sports. I think it had been a pleasure for him to see that the tradition continues so strongly.
Because it does! And not only here, but throughout our country.
Riding is today Sweden's second largest youth sport and one of the largest sports for people with disabilities. It is open to boys and girls, men and women, younger and older on equal terms. This is one of the few sports where participants compete in the same classes regardless of gender or age.(...)
Sweden today is a country of peace, prosperity and democracy.
A country where everyone has access to our nature.
A country where fundamental rights and freedoms are respected.
All of this has characterized Sweden for a long time. It has formed us living here and it's really not that weird if we take it for granted.
It does not change the fact that it's a big advantage to live right here and right now.
Let's value that benefit! Let's celebrate it. Today - and every other day.
Thank you to all who are here today for your dedication. And thanks for your help to make your national day a nice feast.
I wish you all the joy of celebrating our Sweden! Thank You!

King Carl Gustaf said in his speech in Skansen among other things:
We all have a place in Sweden where we feel the most at home, where we can say that "This - it's my Sweden!".
Today, I would like to say something about a place in our country that is particularly close to my heart. And it is actually where we are at the moment: Skansen, and the surrounding Royal Djurgården, here in Stockholm.(...)
I remember how exciting it was to come here when I was little. How I walked around looked at the animals and at different cultural buildings. And I already knew that this was my country, my Sweden, that I wanted to live and work in.

It is nice when royals address their ancestors and history, especially royals like Prince Gustaf Adolf who are discussed less often.

Those are interesting facts. I thought riding was an expensive sport, but at the same time it is true that it is not as unequal with respect to sex, age, and disability as most other sporting activities.

Press release from the County Administrative Board of Dalarna
On the National Day on June 6, Dalarna gets a royal visit. Their Majesties the King and Queen start this year's National Day celebration in Ludvika and Borlänge.
- It is always special and nice to welcome the King and Queen to Dalarna, but of course the National Day is an occasion when it feels extra fun, says Governor Ylva Thörn.
Kungligt firande av Sveriges nationaldag i Dalarna - Länsstyrelsen i Dalarnas län

Who doesn't want to have lunch with the queen, or shake hands with the king? Visits of the royal couple top the desires of all cities, and now the court has revealed who wins and gets royal visit at the festivities on the National Day on June 6.
- The royal couple will celebrate the National Day in Borlänge and Ludvika, says Margareta Thorgren - and reveals the justification which is somewhat odd:
- Borlänge has been named Sweden's ugliest city, it is absolutely worth a visit, we think!

The King and Queen will start the day in Borlänge with a visit to Alice Lund textiles, followed by a visit to the Large Square in Borlänge. The King and Queen will thereafter travel to Ludvika to take part in the celebrations in Gammelgården, where the King will give a speech and hand out flags.

The Crown Princess Couple will celebrate the day in Haga Park in Solna (close to their home). The event in Haga Park includes guided concerts, tours of the park and family activities, which is arranged by Solna municipality, The Royal Opera and The Office of the Governor of the Royal Palaces. The Crown Princess will give a speech at 2pm.

The Prince Couple will attend the Opening of the Open Palace at the Royal Palace of Stockholm. The Couple opens the gates of the Southern vault at 10am. Prince Carl Philip will later attend an scholarship award in the competition "The thinking hand" at Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities. He will later attend the Change of the Guard at the Outer Courtyard at 11.30am.

The Royal Family will leave the Royal Palace in a cortege at 17.55 for the National Day celebrations at Skansen. The King will hand out flags during the concert, that is aired by SVT. The Royal Family will later host a reception at the Royal Palace which is concluded by a tapto from Logården gardens. Also the tapto is aired by SVT.
