I heard about this terrible tragedy and express my sympathy to the 17 military families. I have one question? Who was the widow and sergeant that was talked about and standing beside the King in uniform? Was this a widow of one of the military men killed and she was in the military with her husband? How awful for that poor woman!
I also noticed how big Letizia seems. Is the November date off a little? She looks like she is either having twins or the birthdate calculation is off?

Letizia's baby is due to the second half of November, but I won't be surprised if she gets a big belly, given the fact she's naturally thin and the royal family is full of big babies, many of them over 4 Kg (Laura&Bestrán's baby was 4,5 Kg...).

No doubt, this is the most difficult part of being a member of a Royal Family.
My sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the families and friends on this terrible tragedy. God Bless Them.
May they all rest in peace.

This sergeant is the widow of one of the deceased soldiers, she was also in Afghanistan.
On Letizia's belly, how Elsa has said normally the babies of the Borbones are big enough. The children of the Infantas have weighed more than 3,5 kilos and the children of the prims of the Prince more than 4.

My deepest condolence to the families of the killed men. It's so terrible and sad.
The Princes really had to go to many funerals in the last time. I agree that specially in such situations it's not always easy to be a member of a Royal family.

I think it's so sweet and caring the way Felipe put his arm aorund Letizia here:

I think the emotions the whole family showed is a credit to them, and bonds them with the country during this tragedy which can't help but touch us.

Source ::: Reuters Spain’s Princess Letizia comforting a victim’s relative during a state funeral for peacekeepers at Madrid’s army headquarters yesterday. Soldiers’ wives and parents clutched each other for support and wept as Spain’s royal family and prime minister joined them at a funeral for 17 peacekeepers killed in Afghanistan this week. The Spanish troops died in a helicopter crash on Tuesday during an exercise near the western city of Herat, in what the government suspects was an accident.

yes, in the beginning of it, she seemed to be handling it well, but, who wouldn't cry seeing it !
from what i could see on tv, it was really a moving ceremony
even if it's not very appropriate for the occasion, i think L looked just... radiant

here you have more pics from olycom. What's the name of the song that all soldiers sang to their colleagues? It's a sad song but lovely.

Unfortunately in the last times they have had several acts of this type, are in the habit of being very hard occasions because they give the condolence to the families and often the relatives end up by crying in their shoulder. The Princess is in the habit of bearing enough good these situations (I imagine that in her work like journalist also she have that to be able to control when she had to give news that were not agreeable), but now she is pregnancy and it is normal that she gets excited more and it is more difficult to her to contain the emotions.

It's perfectly understandable. Even Queen Sofia, who has a much greater endurance, due to all her experience, couldn't help crying as well:

I salute every leader that participates and supports the families when tragedies like the death of the soldiers happens. It must have been especially difficult for Letizia as pregnancies tend to provide ample of emotional rollercoster rides besides being with the families that have lost loved ones while having a new life kicking inside of her.
In the last year we have seen several royal families truly showing compassion and leadership during difficult times.
