According to this article, Zarzuela and the Royal Family try to cut costs because of the economic crisis. Although the budjet of SRF is much lower than the budget of the British or Dutch Royal Houses, the SRF will e.g. use low-energy light bulbs, recyclable paper and fuel for vehicles that are cheaper. Queen Sofia and princess Letizia must also recycle more and replicate the model of their suit when necessary.

The press is bored and writes these things. The " ecological policy " already goes a time installed in Zarzuela, like in other public institutions, in addition the Queen is a promoter of this type of practices. The Queen and the Princess always have repeated wardrobe very often, so it is not an innovation either.
 
According with the magazine Semana, the princes of Asturias, with their daughters Leonor and Sofia; the infanta Elena, with Froilán and Victoria; and the dukes of Palma,with Juan, Pablo, Miguel and Irene, visited on December 24 the "belén" of San Rafael Hospital in Madrid. The hospital receives a lodging dedicated to the persons' rehabilitation in situation of social exclusion and without home, and the family took food for them.

What a great outing for them. I love the fact that they have included all the children. A great learning and giving experience for them. :wub:

It´s a bit strange that they don´t report the solo activities of Queen Sofia and Princess Letizia.
 
What a busy family...
What about Inaki? How mayn activities does he have on this year?

That's quite weird indeed. I think both Ladies deserve to be listed here , too. They should get the tribute they deserve... especially as Letizia was pretty busy during the whole year; not only as a Princess Consort.

Majesty, is this the way that the Spanish media always reported the official Royal activities for the prior year -- that only the "royal blood members" are praised for their activities? Were the solo activities of Queen Sofia and Princess Letizia always ignored as insubstantial -- or is this a first this year? I too find it not only weird but quite rude as they both are a very important part of the Royal family of Spain. Plus if they were not available to the press, even the royal forum members would have their days spoiled because they would not have Letizia and Sofia's clothes to critique and feel superior by their comments.

Also, does Inaki do any activities for the crown without his wife that he is not given credit for? If they are going to make a report, do it properly.

King & Prince are most important, then Queen Sofia because she does a full scale of solo activities like most of her peers.

Letizia is usually Felipe's shadow, going more or less to his events as a nice accessory. In 2008 she had around 20 events that would qualify as "solo", nothing to get excited about.

Inaki does very rarely something on his own, if at all it would be in his field of interest, sports, but usually he will be seen alongside Infanta Cristina.

They should still be all properly reported -- and 20 events could be something to get excited about if you were members of those activities. I am sure that someone will "count" the nunber of solo events for both Sofia and Letizia and tell us -- would be very interesting. The media is still quite lacking as if you say the queen has a full scale solo activities, how many? We all know Queen Elizabeth's and Queen Beatrix's count -- Queen Sofia is no less important.

No but there is a difference - Sofia is a consort, the other two ladies you mentioned are monarchs. In public view the monarch will always take preference, not the consort (male or female). Another example is Queen consort Prince Phillip whose schedule can easily take on any monarch's schedule, even at the age of 87. But still, people will at first look at what is reigning wife is doing (she doesn't have to hide, either).
 
I still wonder why Letizia has so little number of solo engagements.
Beacause there's no need for more than around 20 per year?
Because she is a host of her husband's activities and more for her is no need for more?
Because she is a mother of two little and she doesn't want more activities?
Because she doesn't have many patronages?
Any ideas?:ermm:

I counted Letizia´s solo engagements of the year 2008 and got alltogether 28 events in Spain. Plus she also had a couple of solo engagements during the visit to Poland.

They are all being recognized. The King is after all the regent with the Prince as "back-up". The King would be king even without his family but the family would not be in the position they are in without the King. The boss is the boss even in royal circles and they chose to report it that way.

I'm totally sure that Letizia is much more useful and she is much more aware of each event that she attend than many other superficial princesses that only care about their clothes and to pose in front of the camera.
Plus, Letizia accompanied the prince, that is right, the only difference is that the prince read speeches and Letizia not, but both are equally informed and concerned about activities that they attend.
Conclusion: the most important thing is that the monarchy in a country is useful and hard-working,this is the purpose of the monarchy isn´t it?.... and Spanish is one of the most hard-workers compared with other countries,so the fact that a princess working alone or together is not relevant at all.​

everyone knows that you cannot stand Mary. But do you really need to bring her as a negative example all the time? :nonono:
Isn't it possible to describe your opinion without using this "other Princesses"-comparisons?

Well, I don't see where she is talking about Mary, it's so Increible that people relate Mary straight away with the word superficial.:ohmy:

people can say what they want, but they always mean Mary when they compare "another Princess" with Letizia.
