Poor Letizia's family. Why is the royal house so serious? Letizia's acts is just cancelled for tomorrow and she have to work one day after her grandmother's death? She had to work one week after her sister's death and Felipe and her had to work on their 4th wedding anniversary as well. Why doesn't the royal house give her more break? IMO family should be more important than the public acts.

The circumstances of Erika's death were much different. Nobody expects a young woman to take her own life, this was truly devastating. I believe it was Letizia's decision to come back that early and not enforced by the Royal House. Her grandmother's death however is certainly very sad and a loss for the family, it's always terrible to lose a family member, but on the other hand Enriqueta was very old, enjoyed a long lasting marriage, grand- and greatgrand children and the family can be comforted by the fact that she has been around for that long. Many people of Letizia's age don't have grandparents at all and some have already lost their parents. We are all mortal and at some point you have to kind of expect that a person will die, especially when so old, that's just the way it is, therefore I would not expect Letizia to take a longer break. My condolences to the family.

Princess Letizia mourns grandmother's death

Enriqueta was 89. I especially feel for Francisco who is 90, very hard to lose the life companion at that age. I hope manages to pull through this hard time and doesn't give up.

The article says that Enriqueta had three great-grandchildren, must be at least 4 (they forgot to mention Telma's daughter Amanda).

:previous: Well, AECI's office here in the Philippines isn't actually in the city of Manila. It's located in Makati City, the country's premier business district and adjacent to Manila. (Pretty useless info, I know.) :D

I agree, it must be very sad news not only for Letizia but also for the rest of the family to have Telma move away so far again!

Do you suppose the reason is business or Telma wants to be left alone and live like an unknown? With no one chasing her every time she leaves her house?

just my theory!

:previous: It could be both, with the latter weighing heavily. Since no paparazzi would bother to go here, and with our country largely ignorant about the royals except maybe the British RF, she can live a pretty quiet life here. Perhaps only those who work in the Spanish Embassy and their allied agencies as well as those who work for the Spanish NGOs here know who she really is.

On the business side, I think the AECI office here in the Philippines is their main hub of operation within the region. She has worked as consultant, so maybe that's why she was assigned to the Philippine office and not to the satellite offices somewhere else.

I also think it's a nice place for little Amanda to grow up. She will learn English (aside from Tagalog) as it is one of the largest English-speaking countries in the world, it's a Catholic country, the customs and traditions are pretty much the same in Spain (our former colonizers).

Telma started working for MSF in 1998, the last 9-10 years, she spent most of her time abroad. That's probably the job she has always wanted to do, has nothing to do with her sister marrying the Prince or not. It's very sad and difficult for the family to lose Erika who seemed to spent more time with their parents or grandparents than Letizia or Telma, but each had/has its own life, can't be replaced by others, Telma should do what is best for her.

Thanks for the pics iceflower. I wasn't sure about the short hair before, but I kind of like it now.

Letizia's embarrassing aunt Henar makes the headlines yet again. After she became a designer, calling herself "principessa" and doing interviews and promotions in Elle, HOLA or Vogue (I leave it to everyone's imagination whether those magazines were interested in Henar, the designer or Henar, aunt of the princess), she recently showed around Baroness Thyssen in Asturias - Oviedo and Covadonga, the center of Asturian history, and of course HOLA was present.

Vanitatis.com - La baronesa Thyssen y la ‘tita’ Henar, de mariscada

After having to close her shop in Oviedo in July, Henar needs to find another way of cashing in on her royal sibling by socialising with the rich and noble of Spain, not hesitating to show off her handbag with trademark logo "H", who knows, another career might be around the corner, sponsored by HOLA.

while she is not my cup of tea (i believe she marketed her relationship with letizia too much) i don't think it was henar who called herself 'principessa' at the italian fair. i think it was just a mistake or a way to get more attention to the event.

however, i find it strange that she is now mingling with the baroness. it's widely known that tita and the queen are not best friends and i can't find a way for her to have met her and become good friends. i don't think she attended the royal wedding, did she?

the article suggests the baroness may act as sponsor to another business venture of henar. who knows, we will have to wait and see. btw, why did henar close her shop?

The connection is not between the Baroness and Henar, is between Henar and the person who invited the Baroness to this trip. José Antonio Olivar is a journalist (for what have told me persons who knew him, his history is more interesting, this journalist, before being a journalist was a priest, he was in churchs of Asturias, later he left the church and went away to Madrid to work as journalist) , who belongs to the directive of the magazine Hola, he was born in Asturias and he is a friend of the aunt of the Princess. The aunt of the Princess lived in this zone of Asturias so the most logical thing is that her friend was inviting her in order that she was accompanying them in the visit, like he invited another friend of both that is a painter.

As much as I recall Tita did not attend F&L's wedding but the Gomez-Acebo / Luque wedding in 11/04 where the Kings were present.

btw, why did henar close her shop?

Henar had to close due to declining economy, with the credit crunch on the way in summer 2008.

they might be friends but it's still the classical attention seeking if not cashing in, isn't it? nobody is interested in henar herself or tita walking through asturias, so nice to have a journalist friend working for HOLA who has this brilliant idea of bringing everyone together and making everyone happy - HOLA get a new story somehow involving princess Letizia and make money, henar gets some attention and may also get some money and tita ... well she won't get any money as she already has more than enough but is still addicted to any attention in connection to "royalty", even at this level. not surprisingly when looking at tita's story, she is one the greatest social climbers around in Spain.

Duke, for the present time you are the one who extracts conclusions before time. Hola hasn´t published for the present time information about this visit. The information has appeared in local press, and with Henar or without Henar the visit of the Baroness had been a news in this press.

Letizia's embarrassing aunt Henar makes the headlines yet again.

Henar is different from the rest of Letizia's family. She likes the attention a little more, seems to enjoy the perks presented to her by others due to her niece's royal status. But she is certainly not the only one among the royal relatives. If all these makes her an embarrassment, then she is no more embarrasing than the likes of Mathilde's uncle, Maxima's brother or Mary's sister Jane Donaldson.
