During the inauguration of the VIII Congress of Volunteering, Don Felipe emphasized the 'more than deserved credit, respect and admiration' that the NGOs and volunteers enjoy in the middle of society, which, like 'the world in general', needs solutions 'in permanent revision and renovation, to face the problems of inequality, injustice, confrontation and pain’.

For Don Felipe, the 'social organizations’ capacity of detection' and their collaboration with the public institutions makes this sector a 'powerful motor of social transformation and a genuine exponent of participative democracy’.

Before hundreds of volunteers from all over the country, the Prince of Asturias encouraged this group 'to take the maximum advantage of the Congress, to find 'the keys that assure its maintenance and draw the future of the voluntary movements in ours country’.

The president of the Voluntary Platform of Spain, Carmen Laviña also congratulated the Prince for his paternity.

The visit of the Prince of Asturias to Granada, in order to inaugurate the VIII Congress of Volunteering has had Infanta Leonor as the absent protagonist, since Don Felipe received numerous gifts for her, from the part of the volunteers.

After inaugurating the meeting, Prince Felipe visited the several stands of the country’s most representative volunteering groups, in order to hear from the work developed by each one of them. Along with the explanations, the Prince also received numerous gifts for little Leonor, like a doll from Madagascar, which was presented to him by the Casa del Agua de Coco, a Granadian NGO, whose name caught the interest of Don Felipe, as it comes from the war carried out during the 60s in Cambodia, where that substance was used like medicinal serum. It was not the only present for the Infanta thought, since Don Felipe kept collecting gifts, as he was visiting the different exhibitors installed in the Palace of Congresses of Granada.

During the visit of the Prince, which lasted more than one hour, Don Felipe did not stop receiving warm gestures from the part of volunteers and disabled people, with whom he exchanged some words and took photographs.

The Prince of Asturias inaugurated today the commemorative exhibition of the 5th Centenary of the Royal Chancellery of Granada, one of the highest Spanish institutions of the Modern Age, since its establishment (in 1505) until its disappearance (in 1834), whose history “unites the Crown to Granada in a very particular and significant way”, according to what the Prince expressed in the text written in the honour roll of the exhibition.

Among the more than 400 pieces that take part of this exhibition, the commissioner Eduardo Quesada emphasized some capital examples of the Spanish Renaissance, as well as paintings from the 19th century, the sculpture of Saint Antony of Pádua (of Alonso Cano) or The Oration in the Garden (by El Greco). The intention of this exhibition (which will remain open until February 8th) is that the citizens find in paintings, artistic and documentary pieces an explanation for several centuries of history.

The Picture of Felipe V (by Haycinthe Rigaud), coming from the National Museum of El Prado, as well as Catholic Kings administering justice (by Víctor Manzano), belonging to the Royal Palace of Madrid, caught a special interest of the Prince.

The YMCA is an ecumenical organization that shares a christian and humanist ideal, whose main mission is to promote the full development of the individual, especially during childhood and youth, by means of promoting activities that can foment universal values.
The Prince of Asturias, who has been the honour president of this Spanish organization for sixteen years, emphasized the "solidarity and the team work" through which the YMCA Spain fights for social justice, peace and welfare.
The Heir to the Throne remembered that this institution was founded in London, in 1844, at a moment when there was "no spiritual or intellectual certainty" of organizations that fought for the physical well-being of young people. "The YMCA was, therefore, a pioneer in this scope", said the Prince. Don Felipe also emphasized the contributions of this organization towards a “culture of sport”, adopting "with great success" the well-known classic maxim: "mens sana in corpore sano".
