I've been following their stay in Catlunya via three newspapers (La Vanguardia, El Periodico and ABC) and let me tell you, they have gotten rave reviews for their eight intense days in Barcelona. They not only had a slew of official events, but they did a lot of "unofficial" events, like dinners with cultural figures, politicians and business people. The newspapers all agree that they universally charmed and impressed with their intelligence, their knowledge, their discernment, dedication and their warmth. People were impressed with the responsibility with which they take their duties and their sincere desire to be effective promoters of Spain, it's culture, economy, and communities. Others commented on how they were impressed by what a wide range of people they met with and that they made no exception when meeting with people who had been critical in the past.
Three phrases sum it up.
When at the automobile factory, Princess Letizia joked that she was not a very good driver. To which the President of the company responded, "Well, I don't know about that, but I do know that you are an excellent princess and that I am proud that you represent my nation."
One businessman was quoted as saying that Felipe is so well prepared and educated that were Spain a Republic he would vote for Felipe as President.
But according to another article, "Anyone with a Republic flag should just fold it up and put it away, because Felipe and Letizia have on their work clothes and they have seduced everyone, monarquists and republicans..."
By the way, who has membership to Colour Press? They have some photos of the this weekend, playing in the park with their nephews.

Thanks for all these great pictures Anna_R! If possible, I think Felipe looks even sexier in his casual, weekend clothes than in his suits! And Uncle Felipe and Aunt Letizia playing with Cristina's sons is adorable.
I love the anecdotes lucys. I think from the time of the engagement announcement to the wedding there were a lot of skeptics about Letizia and some questions whether she would be appropriate for the role of Princess of Letizia and the future Queen of Spain. But by sheer hard work, I think she has changed a lot of minds about her appropriateness and qualifications for the role. I think that any doubts naysayers had are gone now -- or at least I think they should be.
Time and time again I read how impressed people are by both Felipe and Letizia's vast knowledge, and not just of Spanish culture, history and politics, but of culture, history, art and politics and the like of other nations, such as when they visited Hungary and Letizia expressed an immense knowledge of Hungarian culture and literature.
In recent years and lots of discussions here, there is an emphasis on the physical appearances of princes and princesses. But in Felipe and Letizia, while the physical appearance is obvious, even sexier I think, is their intelligence and immense curiosity of the world around them and their tremendous dedication to their roles.
Republicans fold away your flags indeed!

The agency identifies them as from November 3rd, 2003, Queen Sophia's birthday. Wasn't that the day they appeared together for the first time?
