November 9, 2004: Felipe and Letizia meet with writers, Margarita Riviere, Felix Azua, Carmen Riera, Claudio Lopez, Rosa Novell, Eduardo Mendoza, in Barcelona.
I must say don't really like the jacket very much, it is made of the same material as the green dress she wore earlier this week, of whom I wasn't such a big fan either. I think she should steer away from velvet....

Thanks for posting, pdas1201, those are great pictures indeed. Letizia was very happy at her visit to the newspaper, we could clearly see that she was in her "element".

Letizia looks lovely in the grey suite she wore, i love the jacket. I also like her in the green outfit she wore a few days ago.he hair was done lovely. But i have also relized she has been slightly boring and repeating her outfits.

When you are a princess with so many activities and a full schedule, we should not expect her to have a new outfit very often...Personally, I am very satisfied with Leti as i take her as whole (look+personality+credentials+professional attitude+elegance+smartness+dynamism). She is a very good package and is serious about her job as a princess. She is not like some princesses or queens who are focusing more on the clothes and the look than on the substance, i.e. serving their people...
Besides, It is very difficult to satisfy people...and i am glad she has her own established style and she knows better what suits her and makes her comfortable...

I haven't been around much lately because--no offense to any body--but I'm a little tired of all the talk of clothing. It's as if these princesses are just fashion models, and that's just not why I watch this couple. If some princesses choose to be fashion models that's their choice, and if some people watch princesses just to see what they will wear, that's also a choice. I respect it, but I don't agree with it. What I like about Letizia is how serious she is about her role; her hard work and intelligence. I read the other day that since her marriage (which includes a three week honeymoon and two weeks of olympics and vacationing in August) she's done over 130 OFFICIAL engagements--which doesn't include important things like Tuesday's private dinner with the president of Catalunya (if you know anything about Spanish politics you know why it's important). The role this couple has to play and the challenges they face are very different from what some of the other young royals have to play because of the particulars of Spain; I would even venture to say their role is much more complicated and delicate.
In any case, yesterday they spent 6 hours at La Vanguardia newspaper--a newspaper I read daily--and one of the reporters brief and succinct comments about the couple--after watching them for six hours at close range--captures what I find so appealing about them. I'd like to share it with you all:
You see them, with that regal air that eminates from them, and one wonders, what will i say? But then, you calm yourself. She is thin and very good looking. He is taller then on the television. She knows that she is being examined and judged at every turn. She passes the test: it's as though she had been born a princess. He dominates everything around him. They ask questions. They collect opinions...They are discrete in their revelations. Cautious in expressing opinions. They are cultured and educated. They know the street. They inspire confidence. And a detail not at all minor: They love each other. You can see it.
Maybe others on this board find it not interesting--but that seriousness, that education, erudiction and discreation that reporter after reporter credits them with is why I find them appealing. And while I personally very much like the way Princess Letizia dresses, I don't think it is the most important thing about her or any of the other princesses. And if it is, they should maybe reconsider their activities. But these are just my opinions and others are free to disagree--as I am sure many will. I don't think I've explained myself very well. Oh well...
I doubt many of you are registerd at La Vanguardia, so here are photos from their sight of the visit:

Just one word for you lucys "Bravo".
I too decided to follow F&L closer because I noticed Letizia's seriousness towards her role. She knows that it isn't only a "smile and wave" thing. If I recall correctly, people in Hungary were very impressed by her knowledge of Hungarian Literature.
Letizia is a hard worker (we can tell this just looking at her CV from before the engagement) that is something you're born with and no one can take away from you.
Her father and her former colleagues have already told, she's a perfectionist so, I believe that she prepares well for each and every single of her engagements, she reads and she studies. And I think we can say right now is that Letizia is much more than Felipe's accessory, she knows her place and she knows her importance as he does as well.
And one more thing, I think that Letizia is not very much concerned with her fashion, meaning that she's not bothered by what people might say of her fashion-wise.
I see that they're very much in love, very happy and working really hard to prove that the SRF deserves its place.

I agree that the reason I was initially drawn to Letizia was because of her serious demeanor and nature...
But in defense of all the fashion postings...when you get nothing more then still frames from events with the same generic caption over and over its hard to find something more to discuss then the fashion aspect of things... Also these women who become Princesses become role models for their people and their fashion sense is a major influence as well as their studious or serious demeanor.

I appreciated your e-mail "lucys" and I share much of your sentiment. I wonder if you can tell us more about what kind of newspaper la vanguardia is and what audience it addresses. Is it addressed to catalunians or some other specific people within Spain? Is it liberal or conservative? It seems you know quite a bit about Spain. I would love to hear commentaries on the significance of some of the photos that we do see, e.g. dinner with the President of Catalunia, since I am not especially knowledgeable about Spain.
Thanks

Exactly what I think too lucys!
I also like Letizia because she is completely aware that being a princess is a very serious role.

Over 130 official engagements??!! Wow! Of course, I had noticied that they both have been working hard, but I wouldn't have imagined 130... They should rest a bit!

I'm glad people did not think I was being snooty. I just think we do an injustice to all of these women when the only thing we talk about is the way they dress. It's not like I haven't as well, or that I won't do so again, it just felt for a while like it was getting a little out of hand for my personal taste. In any case, here is another opinion for you from people who have met them...
In today's paper El Periodico, which is a paper from Barcelona, they report on their visit to the very advanced auto factory yesterday and to the theater at night. (As an aside, the play was in Catalan--it appears they have both been learning Catalan. They have both been reported to have been using it throughout the trip and in Felipe's speech tonight at a Chamber of Commerce event he spoke almost entirely in Catalan.) But I digress. The head of the company gave them a tour through the factory and afterwards they all shared a wine and some tapas, the paper says that afterwards the president of the company ran out of words because of the "hurrican" of compliments that the Princess inspired.

Wire Images has a bunch of photos from today's inauguaration of the center for the mentally handicapped. It's only thumbnails, but some are very charming. I was really glad to see Felipe take part--so often these sorts of things are left to the female royals. They spent over 2 hours at the center, and both immediately put on the earrings the kids made for her and the cuff links they made for him.
