In a warm atmosphere, affectionate as the personal relation of Don Juan Carlos with the Godó family and the bonds of the Crown with La Vanguardia, the meeting was prodigal in evocative memories.

Javier Godó, count of Godó, remembered how, 25 years ago, he had had the honour to be received by Don Juan Carlos, on the occasion of the first centenary of La Vanguardia. The King joked about the course of time and commented on the newspaper's illusion of being every day younger; a compliment that the representatives of the Godó Group paid back to the monarch, with the same degree of affection.

The president of the Godó Group gave His Majesty a precious book, of Daniel Giralt-Miracle, reproducing 50 covers of La Vanguardia. The book was also accompanied by a reproduction of the first number of this newspaper, which appeared on February 1st, 1881.

Twenty-five years later, on that same day, Mundo Deportivo (which belongs to the Godó Group since 1975) was also born. Santi Nolla, director of the sport daily paper, gave Don Juan Carlos two cartoons. In both drawings it is possible to see the King as a sailor. The first one is from 1989 and it is work of the deceased sketcher García Lorente, while the second one was made just a few days ago, by Jaume Capdevila (a.k.a. Kap). The King, who has been collecting his cartoons for years, received the gift with much satisfaction.

The president of the Godó Group thanked the monarch for his attendance, next April 20th, to the celebrations of the 125th anniversary of the newspaper. The King and Queen will inaugurate the exhibition El pulso de los días, in Centre of Contemporary culture of Barcelona (CCCB), and at night they will preside over a dinner that will take place in the Oval hall of the Palau Nacional de Montjuïc.

Tonight it will be the Princes of Asturias, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, the ones in charge to represent the Crown in the gala which commemorates the centenary of Mundo Deportivo. It will be a special night, since it will be the first official act which Doña Letizia attends, since she gave birth to Infanta Leonor.
