A day after the Parliament approved the project for the reform of the Estatut, King Juan Carlos emphasized yesterday that the Constitution is "the product of the majority will of the Spanish people" and that it refuges itself the indissoluble unit "of the Spanish nation". The head of the State, who at no moment made direct reference to Catalonia or the statutory reform, assured that he has always guided himself by the service to Spain and all the Spaniards, "within the framework of our parliamentary monarchy, promoting the respect of the values and principles of our Constitution".
Don Juan Carlos, accompanied by the Queen, made these reflections in a speech pronounced on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his entrance in the military school of Zaragoza, where he wanted to reiterate that the Constitution is "based in consensus and concord", it guarantees an ample frame of democratic coexistence, and is able "to effectively and commonly articulate our rich plurality and diversity". In the course of the military act, the King, along with his companions of company, renewed his oath to the flag.
Previously, the Kings visited the basilica of the Pillar, where they kissed the mantle of the Virgin Mary, which was given by this company, on its 40 anniversary.

This speech, defending the unity of Spain and the stability provided by the parliamentary monarchy drafted by the constitution, is symptomatic of the political discussions taking place in Spain (concerning the new statute of autonomy, in which Catalonia self-proclaims as “nation”) and it’s particularly interesting, if we consider that KJC (who represents the unification of Spain) celebrates the 30th anniversary of his enthronement, within just a few weeks...
