As far as I know, KJC didn't participate in the regattas, as he visited the port of Valencia just as a mere supporter of the America's Cup... but I may be wrong... perhaps you could post that article

On another note, KJC and QS presided today over the ceremony of the dispatches, at the diplomatic school of Madrid.

Here's an article about it:

http://servicios.elcomerciodigital.c...J-AVI-084.html

Estela Alba, from the IES Salinas, along with the other autonomic winners of the contest 'What is a King for you?', met Don Juan Carlos.

“He is a very smart person, who read my paper and told me that he would consider my recommendations, when arrives his time to retire". This is the simple way how this 12-years-old girl described Don Juan Carlos de Borbón, after meting him.

Estela Alba González is the student of the IES Salinas, who recently wined the contest 'What is a King for you?'. As prize, she met the head of the State, along with other sixteen young people, coming from other independent communities.

The simplicity and naturalness how she talked about the Spanish Monarchy are one of the objectives of this scholar contest, which has the aim of approaching the youth to the supreme representatives of the State. This young girl surpassed a series of other 2500 Asturian candidacies, suggesting the King what could he make, when he’s retired.

During the last two days, Estela lived an authentic fairy tale, in which just the Princes of Asturias were missing, since the girl had a special desire to meet Doña Letizia Ortiz. The hour to awake arrived yesterday (June, 20th) in the evening, after attending a gala dinner (last Sunday), and visiting El Pardo and the palace of La Zarzuela.

The coexistence with the other autonomic winners was "very good", but the thing that most called her attention was the fact that the King said that he would consider her opinion, like the one of the other students, with whom he informally chatted, after the official act. If this is right, according to Estela, when "he stops being the king", Don Juan Carlos will study the possibility of being a gardener, a person in charge of a ONG, or 'a super grandpa, helping his three children to educate his grandchildren'.

The young girl was always accompanied by her parents, Valentín Alba and Carmen Dorleta González, as well as by her teacher of Language, Maria Jesus Lopez, who underlined the good organization of the contest, promoted by the Spanish Institutional Foundation.

Even so, Estela was sorry that, during these days, she was not able to meet any other member of the Royal Family, although Don Juan Carlos assured her that, as soon as Doña Sofía returned to home, he would show her the work made by the Castrillonense student.

The Mexican painter Juan Soriano received the prize Velázquez of Plastic Arts 2005, from the hands of king Juan Carlos, in a ceremony that took place at the PradoMuseum. The king praised the "extraordinary career" of Soriano, and emphasized the way how his work mixes tradition and vanguard, realism and visual imagination.

Soriano, of 84 years old, thanked the prize, speaking about his rebelliousness, and referred as well his constant bounds with Spain, mainly with the exiled artists, after the Spanish Civil War.

The prize Velázquez, which honours the master of the Spanish XVII century painting, includes a check of €90 000 ($109 000), and was created in 2002, with the aim of fortifying the artistic bows among the Latin American nations.

The Head of the Israeli State, Moshe Katsav (who holds a representative position, without executive powers) will go to Spain, next June 27th, as guest of HM the King. Juan Carlos I invited the head of the Hebrew State, to celebrate the 20th anniversary, since the beginning of diplomatic relations between Spain and Israel.

Today, June 24th, the catholic calendar celebrates St. John Baptist. Roughly coinciding with the spring equinox, this day is celebrated in many countries with great popular festivities, where the pagan rituals of rebirth are constantly mixed with the catholic festivities.

On the other hand, John (Juan) is also the name given to the present King of Spain. For that reason, the country celebrates on June 24th King Juan Carlos' Onomástica (the King's name day); a festivity that used to be celebrated with a great reception, usually hosted at the gardens of the RoyalPalace.

Since 2002, however, the King's Onomástica has been limited to a mere familiar celebration, reason why there isn't any special act planned for today.

The Royal Forums would thus like to express our best wishes, on this special day for King Juan Carlos I.

Congratulations, your Majesty! :)

Today, at 10:00 p.m., KJC and QS are going to preside over the inauguration of the Mediterranean Games; an important competition for the Madrilenian Olympic candidacy, as its organizational success shall constitute an important endorsement to the Spanish candidacy, before the members of the IOC, who will soon announce the host city of the Olympic Games 2012.

The ceremony will be transmitted live on TVE International, and the Princes of Asturias are said to attend it as well, although there is not an official confirmation of it.

Spanish King Juan Carlos greets Basque Parliament President Izaskun Bilbao before a meeting at Zarzuela Palace in Madrid, 24 June 2005. Bilbao met with King Juan Carlos following the re-election of moderate nationalist Juan Jose Ibarretxe at the head of Basque region.

I think that "onomastica" was indeed quite familiar and intimate reception, I can't find any photos.

Yes. As I said before, the Onomástica used to be a great social event, with a big reception, but since 2002, it was limited to a mere familiar celebration, as there were always some polemics around the reception. In fact, and in spite of the ever growing number of guests, there was always someone who wasn't invited and who was offended for that, so last year there was just a mass attended by the family, and this year there was nothing specially planned.
There was, however, a toast to King Juan Carlos, during the previous reception to the Mediterranean Games.

There's no doubt about the full support that the Spanish Royal Family gives to the sports world. I hope that Madrid is chosen as the host of the 2012 Olympics. I think that TM have been doing a great job promoting Madrid's candidacy.
