An article by www.abc.es how King Felipe is staring to receive guests at the royal palace.
It's nice that King Felipe is making his own changes and ways he wants things done rather than holding on to how it use to be.

I think a lot of the old routine had been done because of JC's health. He chose Zarzuela Palace to avoid the travel to the Royal Palace and if it had to be the Royal Palace, for certain events, he certainly did not walk the staircase if he didn't have to.

Yes I agree Annie it would be great to see the Royal Palace being used more and more by Felipe VI.

Wonder if they will also use the Royal Palace for the Welcome Cermeony at State Visits in the future insteed of Pardo Palace. It wold be a great Setting of the would hold in the front Court.

I think when the old Kings have passed, F&L will move into Zarzuela and Leonor will keep Felipe's old house Zarzuela II, with Sofia jr. moving out to Madrid or wherever she plans to live.

The visit of the president of Italy was a presentation visit, of very short duration, and the lunch was almost private. It is an unusual type of visit.
We will have to wait for the next official visit to see if this protocol continues. Official visits usually last more, and there is a meeting at Zarzuela first, and then an official lunch with dozens of guests. On such visits they could apply this new protocol.
On state visits, Pardo palace is the official residence of the heads of state who visit Spain, so I do not think the protocol will change. The headquarters of the Royal Guard are there and they have beautiful gardens, move it to the center of Madrid would be more complicated. Lunch at Zarzuela is private, and the great reception that is the gala dinner is already held in the Royal Palace.
