I agree that if she is to become a member of Danish Royal Family and live in Denmark, she should certainly learn the language and make some effort to show that she's learning it. Likewise, if a spanish speaking person moves to the US to live and work here, they should make an effort to learn the English language. It may not be the "official" language, but it's been the common language for the duration of this country's existance.

Ladies, I get the impression you take all this much to serious. Marie will be the second wife of the second son of the queen, that's all. I personally liked how she appeared so demure and not ambitious in their engagement interview - her predecessor Alexandra has been very popular and possessed a very public profile, so Marie and Joachim knew that she would be compared to Alexandra if she did not appear to be a completely other personality.
As it is, it seems Joachim asked her to marry him and she said yes because she loves him, but she feels his position obviously as daunting, otherwise she would not have ended the relationship after her first mishaps with the media. Well, she decided to give it a try and IMHO it's a good idea to start out as housewife at Schakenbourg - there are possibilities to do all kind of volonteer work in that corner of Denmark if she needs time and opportunity to find what it is she likes to do. Plus I believe she will accompany Joachim on his trade promotion tours. All in all she will start out living a life she has been well trained for in her education as she was raised like a girl from the French upper class. I'm looking forward to that and as long as Joachim is happy I have no problem with a "private" princess.

No, it's not that serious on a whole, we're just having a fun yet simple discussion.
However, I am serious when discussing her language skills... second wife, second son of a monarch or not.

In the second picture from the Hello article, the oldest son looks kind of annoyed by her presence. I wonder if he is just making a wierd face, or if he truly doesn't care for Marie.

I dont think we can judge from that picture, I would assume he would rather want to ski or play in the snow than have to sit for photographers. You know how children get. In the past, he seemed to be "okay" in presence of Marie.
Lovely gateway for the family. It sure will get the boys to get to know Marie more. They look like they are her own boys. Nice to see...

Good point, Dazzling. When I was young, I was always annoyed when ever anything stopped me from playing and having fun. You are right, they do look like they share a slight resemblance.

Here is a video clip from Se og Hor. Ah, a nice ski holiday with the press following them around. Marie looks very annoyed. Poor girl... she better get used to it because from now on this is her life.

I guess I would be annoyed, too. I mean: the press guys got their pictures ; now they should leave them alone.
Lovely pictures, by the way!

I think it's just that he's 8 years old and would much rather be skiing than posing for photographers. He also may be at a phase where he doesn't want to be seen being hugged or kissed by a motherly-figure. He's looked happy with her before, and Felix looks very happy to be with her, although that may just be because he's younger, or just has a different personality.

What language does Marie use when she talks to the princes? Are they bilingual? Danish and English? Otherwise they would have a problem if her Danish knowledge is as bad as some here have suggested.
But she has known them for quite some time now, Joachim can't have interpreted between them for years?
Any ideas?

I believe they communicate in English.
Felix and Nikolai's French is not quite up to par yet, according to an interview with Joachim from this summer, although they're learning. Also, the boys lived next to their English-speaking grandparents at Schackenborg from birth until the divorce, and have spent time with them afterwards as well.

Perhaps the boys speak English, since I don't think their mother's side of the family knows Danish? Or maybe the know French. They were speaking in the video, I'm pretty sure I heard Danish although that might have been the photographers speaking to Joachim. Maybe Marie knows more Danish than we give her credit for, although I don't expect her to be fluent yet.

I also thought that I head the boys speaking Danish in the video, although they could have been speaking to the photographers or their father.

It was nice to see the photographer hang up one of the boys and put him in the rigth position!!!!It shows that the relationship between Joaquim and the media is good!It was a very nice day to be in the slopes.
Marie was anaswer in wich language?I cannot hear what she is saying....I would love to know what she was saying, someone can translate?

Marie was talking in English about Felix at ski school. She was asked in English, though.
Felix is really cute when he talks about how he'll be skiing, and when he asks his nanny for her autograph

thanks for the video, they look like they are very happy and having a wonderful vacation. it sounded like in some parts marie was speaking french to joachim (at the first) but switched to engish when asked a question in english. she said she wasn't living in denmark until after they get married, it's a surprise who is designing her dress "you'll know when the time comes", she has had a couple of danish lessons (but wouldn't say anything in danish,) but is enjoying learning a new language "but it's difficult". it's a happy family time and i'm not sure but i think she said they were doing their own cooking? ?? and she is no longer working.
she looked pretty and was charming with with her answers, i think she did very good for a beginner in the "royal interviews". the boys are so cute, it's a pleasure watching them grow up. i've never seen joachim look happier.
