Thanks Roskilde for taking the time to tell us that. I have always liked Prince Henrik he is a jolly fellow and a good support to HM. Must be a difficult role for a Prince Consort but he and the Duke of Edinburgh have done well over the years and have allowed their unique personalities to shine thru as well. [thru my own spelling]

Thank Polyesco :flowers:

Every year around Christmas two programs of the year in our Royal Family is broadcasted. One program (one hour long) on DR1 and one program (almost two hours long) on TV2.

Both programs had this year a very strong focus on our Crown Prince Couple's remarkable development over the last year(s) and how it's now very obvious they are taking more and more over from Queen Margrethe and Henrik.

Thank you Roskilde:flowers::flowers:
danish is indeed hard to learn, but i appreciate all the efforts done to "fill us in"
And indeed, it does look like Frederik and Mary are taking over more and more:flowers:

Summaries of article in Billed Bladet #2, 2014.
Written by Ulrik Ulriksen.

The Regent Couple went north to the "Whiskey-Belt", i.e. a very posh neighborhood north of Copenhagen, to the home of Nils and Dorte Foss.
As always everone was dressed up and the theme this New Years Eve was "By the beach". QMII showed up draped in a fishing net a sea-blue dress, silver-weed in her hair and an amber necklace.
Prince Henrik was dressed up as...well, in fact I'm not sure what he was dressed up as and it appears Ulrik Ulriksen isn't either because he hasn't ventured a guess in the article. Suffice to say PH wore a lagre sun hat, but the image is somewhat spoiled as he was at the same time wearing a long fur-coat.

Among the names at the party were the usual very close friends: Keld and Birgitte Hillingsøe, Susanne Heering and also Bent Fabricius Bjerre.

Mary and Frederik celebrated New Year at the hunting lodge in Trend. In fact they had set up a party-tent outside the lodge for their guests.
Their guests counted:
Peter and Caroline Heering.
Ellen Hillingsøe and Christoffer Carstenschiold.
Rikke and Michael Juul Brandt.
Jørgen and Malou Skeel.

Food was delivered a couple of hour before the party and before darkness set in (and it's darker than in the behind of a coalminer around Trend) the party went for a stroll in the woods.

It was slightly more dramatic at Amalienborg where Joachim and our Marie were the hosts of the New Year party.
Four couples had been invited, as well and Nikolai and Felix.
The friends were:
Peter and Henriette Steenstrup.
Christian and Agnete Scherfig.
Charlotte Sparre and Jens Wittrup Willumsen.
Agathe and Anaury Silvestre from France.
- the couples also brought their children.

There was a good deal of fireworks from the backgarden pretty early on in the evening, presumably for the benefit of the children present.
The adults fired away at midnight.
Around 00:30 three fire engines rushed into the square. The guards turned out in arms and Joachim went down to meet the firefighters.
After a brief check it was determined that it was a false alarm and Joachim could join the party.

Thanks Muhler :flowers:

What comes to mind are how happy Mary and Frederik are for the hunting lodge in Trend. They use every possible opportunity to go up there. Winter, spring, autumn, summer. I'm happy they have taken up the tradition after Queen Ingrid and King Frederik. It must be a wonderful place for such an outdoor family.

Do we know about wheter QMII and Henrik ever have used the lodge?

Have found some pictures of the hunting lodge

thank you Muhler and Roskilde for the information.
It certainly does look like M&F enjoy this place. It looks perfect for an active outdoor family, and it looks like they get a great amount of privacy there :flowers:

BT quotes the magazine Her & Nu: Per Pallesen faldt om til fest med kronprinsparret - Kendte | www.bt.dk

In which it is mentioned that M&F together with Joachim and our Marie, last weekend took part in a 60th birthday at a restaurant in Copenhagen.
At this party, one of the participants, an actor fell ill and had to be taken away by ambulance. He's fine.

The birthday child was Anna Kjølbye, who is marrid to the chairman of the board at Mærsk, Michael Pram Rasmussen, and my guess is that it's through him M&F and M&J know her and attended her birthday. Because I can't recall having heard about her before in connection with the DRF.

Hope this is the right thread to post this...

The Danish newspaper EB claims to know that Queen Margrethe and Prince Consort Henrik will fly to Herning tomorrow afternoon to support our handball players at tomorrows final match in the European Handball Championship.

While Frederik attended the European Handball Championship opening match for about 2 weeks ago the newspaper claims to know that Frederik and Mary unfortunately is unable to attend the final match tomorrow. Both Frederik and Mary are otherwise always loyal supporters on the sidelines to our handball finale matchs. Perhaps the embarrassing final match last year in Spain has frightened Mary away? :ROFLMAO:

The newspapers also claims to know that Margrethe and Henrik maybe will bring some of their grandchildren with them. But nothing is published from the Court yet.

Ekstra Bladet - Margrethe vil med til guldfest i Boxen

:previous:that would be great to see the Queen and Henrik with some of the grand-kids; maybe the oldest, Nikolai, Felix?

I would have assume Frederik would want to be at the final:flowers:

But good luck to the Danish team. I was able to watch the semi-final online (what can i say, slow day at work lol:whistling:).

I think QMII and Henrik might bring the four oldest - Nikolai, Felix, Christian and Isabella. The boys at least, I don't know how interesting a long handball match would be for a six year old.

Frederik must be so gutted not to be able to attend. He loves being there to support Denmark at important sport matches. Mary is also a keen supporter of the various Danish teams. I wonder what they're doing - as far as I can see on the website nothing is planned for them.

Nice that they are taking Nikolai and Felix
Its a little surprising that Frederik isn't going

On this day of grief...
Here is another update from BB: Dronning Margrethe trøstede de danske sølvdrenge | Billed Bladet

The Regent Couple went to the dressing room of the Danish team and offered a few words of comfort, I presume.
However, they also went to the French dressing room and congratulated the winners.

On TV2, QMII confided to us viewers that she had mainly followed the exploits of the Danish handball team in the newspapers, but they had also seen a bit on TV.

QMII was incidentally also asked whether she could name a favourite among the Danish players. QMII admitted that she wasn't the best at remembering the names of the players and there was no need to single out anyone in particular.
To the last question you could almost see a thought-bubble above her head saying "Good grief!! Can't they come up with better questions?" One of the players, (don't know who BTW) is labelled "his majesty" whenever he scores and did she mind the title being borrowed? QMII patiently answered that it was a very amusing.
- The sad thing is that this wasn't a sports-journalist (they can ask the weirdest questions!) but a seasoned TV-anchor TV2 had dispatched to the finals to get a mood-report.

Congrats to the french team:flowers:
maybe frederik and family are out of the country? Im sure he and Christian would have liked to go:)

This folder might interest some: https://app.box.com/s/x84v52szq16qzq8anfi5

This a scan of an appendix to BB, depicting the daughters of the CP-couples in the reigning European houses. (With the exeption of the DRF where Athena is put side by side with Josephine and Bella). Other little princess are also depicted but only briefly.

Each portrait contains a little bio. I don't know how accurate these biographies are in regards to some of the details, (to talk about leisure activities for girls two years old is a bit far out I'd say) but I thought this might serve as a handy "comparison chart".

The bios contain the following info:
Name and date and place of birth.
Titles.
And details regarding favorite activities, sports, hobbies, and preferred brands of clothing.

The primary Princesses listed are:
Isabella, Josephine, Athena.
Ingrid Alexandra.
Leonor and Sofia.
Amalia, Alexia, Ariane.
Elisabeth and Eléonore.
Estelle.

The secondary Princesses are:
Irene.
Eloise and Leonore.
Luana and Zaria.
Alexandra.
Maud Angelica.
Laetitia Maria and Louise.
Victoria Federica.

I'll leave it to the mods to decide whether this should be moved to another place.

Ain't much news in BB this week, but they seem to have posted someone outside Amalienborg on both Mary and Marie's birthdays.

In the afternoon, Birgitte Handwerk, who is a very close friend of Mary, as well as the manager of the Mary Foundation, Helle Østergaard, dropped by with flowers.

The next day, Nikolai and Felix arrived in the afternoon after school to congratulate our Marie.

To be moved to the appropriate thread.

BB provides some more details about the upcoming Turkish state visit. Kronprinsesse Mary skal besøge Danner Huset | Billed Bladet

The Presidential couple will be escorted by guards hussars to Amalienborg, as the Regent Couple will still be in residence at Amalienborg.
The galadinner will also take place at Amalienborg. That's a bit surprising. It's usually always at Fredensborg or Christiansborg because there is more room.

In line with M&F taking over Frederik and Mary will accompany the Presidential couple on much of the visit. Mary will accompany the Turkish first lady to the Danner Crisis Centre in Copenhagen.
It was if IIRC established in the 1800's as the first centre of its kind in DK. In an age where wife-beating or in the case of the women coming to the centre wife-thrashing was common. It's named after the founder Countess Danner.

Today is April 9th.

At dawn in 1940 Denmark was occupied by Germany and that was the beginning of "the Five Cursed Years" as it has become known here in DK.

There were skirmishes in predominantly Southern Jutland but also around Amalienborg before a ceasefire went into effect.
Christian X, who was very much a military man to the bone and at the best of times not particularly diplomatic (he was a lousy hippocrite) took the occupation as a personal affront.
It was dark but more than that it was uncertain times. Will Denmark be at war? And with whom? How long will the Germans stay? There were still heavy fighting in parts of Norway. Would the Germans incorporate all of Denmark or just Southern Jutland into Germany? Would the British start bombing?
Then on 16th April a Princess was born. Margrethe. The Light in the Dark as it was labelled.

Let's have a look at some pics from that period.

http://www.bt.dk/sites/default/files-dk/node-images/311/6/6311210-.jpg
A genuine photo taken at the very early hours of 9th April. Patrols and small groups of Danish soldiers like these were scattered around in Southern Jutland, waiting for the Germans. And this was their combat position! - For fear of provoking the Germans the government had forbidden the army to prepare proper positions.

http://b.bimg.dk/node-images/40/7/7040991-tyskere.jpg
German soldiers rolling up through Southern Jutland on that day. As you can tell, some were pleased to see them, not least in Southern Jutland, where there was, and still is, a considerable German minority. And there were also genuine Nazis here and there. But most people looked on in bewilderment, curious, shocked, dazed, uncertain.

http://www.denstoredanske.dk/@api/deki/files/2367/=21227106.jpg
A German troop transport sneaked into Copenhagen harbour at dawn and moored at Langeline. The quay stretching from Amalienborg up to the Little Mermaid a couple of kilometres or so away. Here they poured into Copenhagen and also towards Amalienborg.
The ship had been noticed and the coastal artillery was ready to fire. But the canons didn't work. Sabotage? Incompetence? Treason? It has never been established.
During the day thousands of Copenhageners went to see the ship. In an era without TV and where newspaper reports with photos were only available many hours later, people felt a need to see with their own eyes what was happening.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/77/King_Christian_X_in_Copenhagen_1940.jpg
Shortly after the Occupation Christian X went to visit Soutern Jutland, greatly reassuring people there. As you can tell, he became the rallying point for intense national feelings.
He was not a popular King before the war, respected, but not popular. During the war he was practically venerated as a living national symbol. And so too, was the rest of the DRF, not least the CP family, who was followed closely. Would you imagine? CP Frederik was even seen pushing the pram with one of his daughters! A man! Oh yes, he was a modern father.
CP Ingrid wasn't particularly popular before the war. She was Swedish. She always looked fashionable. Her performance when on the job was a little too perfect. She spoke the lingo with accent. And (whisper) she was a cleptomaniac. She too became a rallying point. During the war and certainly after, she became popular (more and more so in fact) but first and foremost she became hugely respected.

This man, who went public recently, was a member of the Resistance. Povl. He worked in a bank on 9th April and returned to the same bank after the war, never talking about what he did.
He liquidated eleven people during the war. Eight men and three women.
To this day he positively hate and loathe the Danish war-time government, especially one party, that is still in Parliament. In fact the party is in the current government coalition today.

http://www.kriminalsager.dk/Lock-Hansen/Myter/images/Grethe_Bartram_foedt_1924_Aarhus.jpg (WARNING: full frontal nudity. *)
This woman, Grethe Bartram, was one of the most notorious informer or snitch if you will, during the war. It is to this day not certain how many were executed, send to concentration camps or just prison, often after being tortured, because of her.
Here she, very ironically, is posing for a Communist art group. The Communists were the first to geniunely form a resistance after 1941 and they suffered accordingly.
After the war she was sentenced to death but pardoned, as the autorities didn't wish to execute women. - She was lucky. She wasn't liquidated during the war and she excaped the revenge assassinations after the war.
In the years after the war around 500 were sentenced to death and some 50 were executed, the rest were pardoned. It was cynically decided by the Parliament that a number of people should be executed "to quench the thirst for revenge among the people". They were nothing but human sacrifices, because with a few exceptions those sentenced and executed first were small fish. The trials of the more serious offenders took longer, so they were sentenced later and thus pardoned.
*) It is actually one of the very few pics of her where she has been 100 % identified.
Here is one more of her, with her clothes on: http://a.bimg.dk/node-images/360/2/620x/2360006-grethe.jpg
The first picture is the most famous of her, parly for obvious reasons, but also because she is positively identified on the picture, and just as crucially it emphasized her questionable character. Models were generally considered being of ill repute and Grethe Bartram is claimed (and she probably was) to be a semi-prostitute. She was certainly not someone you took home to meet mom and dad!

Today is also a flagday. Dannebrog will fly on half mast until noon, where it must be raised to full mast and remain there for the rest of the day. Danneborg is never ever lowered from half mast.

- Some may find this irrelevant, so be it. I think it's important to help understand the historical, national and cultural background Mary and our Marie have become a part of.

As do I, but you might want to find a different picture of that female Traitor, as I don't think pictures of people posing like that will be allowed here. Just a bit of a heads up. :)

Thanks for all of the history about the meaning of today in Denmark. So...Princess Margaret of The Netherlands wasn't the only baby Princess born at the time to give hope to her People. I never knew that about HM.

Thanks again for all the information. I've learned so much about Denmark thanks to you over the years. Thanks again!!

:previous: Thanks, Tiggersk8 :flowers:

I didn't even think of it but I've edited my post on your advise.

thank you. The picture of the King is awesome. Great symbolism in my opinion.

thank you for the insights

The big story that is unfolding today in the papers is, if correct, nothing short of an unprecedented scandal.

A former journalist at the weekly gossip mag Se & Hør, has written a semi-fictional book based on his time at Se & Hør. The book is very detailed and clearly describes methods and episodes from Se & Hør.

One of them is that someone at Se & Hør paid a person employed at Nets, which is the company monitoring virtually all transactions with credit cards in DK, to hand over information about payments by a considerable number of famous people in Denmark.
Three of them are Prince Henrik, and Joachim and Marie. In fact based on the credit card track, Se & Hør was able to follow them on their honey moon in Canada - which is true, Se & Hør did track them down.
Just as serious, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who was Prime Minister, until 2012, and who must be expected to become the next PM has also been monitored via his credit card transactions.

The period this ocurred is claimed to be between 2008-2012, perhaps longer.

So far, it has not been verified by independent sources. But Nets has launched an investigation this morning and the opposition has demanded that the Minister of Justice take action.

As journalists were also among those targeted we can rest assured that the rest of the press in DK ara ganging up on Se & Hør, if there is any thruth in this, it will emerge.

The present and former editors in chief at Se & Hør, deny any knowledge. However the book more than hints that it was a "if you don't tell us - we won't ask you" basis in regards to intimite info.
The journalist fell out with the editor at Se & Hør and it smells like payback to me.

- If all this is correct. I simply don't know what will happen.

It is so illegal! We are not just talking a fine or civil lawsuit here, or even being barred from the profession, we are talking guaranteed prison on top of that for those who commited this and who were responsible.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Se & Hør has always been a bunch of scum - the Danish equivalent of Daily Fail. I hope they get shut down, though that probably is wishful thinking.
