Another Lycra-moment for Mary...
It's basically a warm up for Tour de France.
At this time every year all the lycra-wrapped Tour-de-France-wanna-be's dust off their way-too-advanced-racing-bikes-for-their-talents-and-fitness and descend on the roads in droves.
Where they are a true menace to the traffic, not least in rural areas. Because they have problems comprehending that cars, tractors, horseriders and other cyclists also use the roads and the visibility is not always that great, especially if you race round a bend doing 50 km/h. And that it may not be that great an idea to ride three or four side by side on such a road.
There are times when I believe you should only be charged if you run over a cyclist twice.
Anyway, riding across the Great Belt Bridge is quite a scenic trip and the weather is fine today, sunny, sensible temperature and not too much wind.
Will also give the gulls something new to look at.
You'd incidentally be surprised at how many birds there around a seventeen kilometer long bridge like that.
Birds ain't stupid, they navigate using highways and railroads and if you are a bird and want to cross an open stretch of water, follow the bridges. Also because if you need to do an emergency landing, it's preferable to land on a bridge and end up with dry feathers, than ditch in the sea.
This is the Great Belt Bridge, the short section (The high bridge) of the connection.

There is an additional 11 km of low bridge.

The island in the middle is a weather-station and reserve for nesting birds.
One stretch of the Tour de France will cross this bridge.

Yes, this is an official side event for Grand Départ Copenhagen and follows the same route as for 2nd stage of the Tour.

The lines between him reporting on events and his opinions are often very blurred...
However, other royal reporters have expressed similar views, in fact this article is almost ad verbatim what others have said.
And yes, M&F like all current and future regent couples have to change with the times.
The aloof monarch doesn't really appeal anymore. Monarchs with opinions and causes and standing up for these causes is the new fashion.
However, it also means that the monarch sometimes say something unfortunate or has an opinion you disagree with.
Something many people, including this reporter I suspect, can have problems accepting.
You can't call on the royals to make a stand, and them blame them afterwards for making a stand.

Good point Muhler. Monarchs can no longer just do the safe subjects and not speak out on anything. It just does not work
BT is still on it

A local newspaper reports that Mary watched a local pride parade in the town of Skagen, being among the onlookers. She was seen waving at the participants.
She was not there in an official capacity.
https://nordjyske.dk/nyheder/frederi...-pride/3335406
No photos.
The paper reports that the CP family is in Skagen.
- Hardly surprising. M&F almost always spend some of their summer holiday at the northernmost tip of DK.
Presumably they went there after having spend a couple of days with QMII at Gråsten.
- The infamous Hellerup-week at Skagen ends this week. That's the annual event in week #29 where the jetsetters who live north of Copenhagen, all migrate to Skagen, to do pretty much the same things they do at home and with the same people.
The flashy cars and flashy behavior is watched with mild amusement by the locals, who quietly raise the prices during that week...
Seasoned German and Norwegian and Dutch too tend to avoid Skagen in mid-July to avoid being fleeced.
In order to look as authentic and scenic as possible some of the local don rubber boots, a full beard, a heavy knitted sweater (regardless of the weather) hands buried in their pockets, smoking a pipe and speaking in the most incomprehensible dialect possible they point at the seagulls while nodding knowingly. The Copenhagener-tourists love it!
But outside the Hellerup-week Skagen can only be recommended, albeit still a bit pricey! The fish-food restaurants are always worth a visit. And if you are fond of amber-jewellery you can find some really expensi... I mean exquisite things there.
And the locals now look almost normal, most speaking perfectly intelligible German, Norwegian and English.
Some photos. First from the Hellerup-week:

Fast cars = fast tickets.
And Skagen in general.

How nice to see them both enjoying a concert together. I think Mary was the one that has mentioned that father and son enjoy similar music.

Aha.
Have they relocated from Skagen to northern Zealand that fast?!?
They have spend a part of their summer holidays at Tisvildeleje or thereabouts often before.
So I wonder if Mary and the younger kids are in Skagen, while Frederik and Christian have made a detour to the festival.

How nice. A Danish Tour de France champion (already celebrated by prince Joachim and family yesterday) in the very first Tour that started in Denmark, so it makes sense for the crown prince to join the celebrations in Paris.

Crown Prince Frederik with the tour winner Jonas Vingegaard, his wife and child at the final of the Tour de France in Paris today, July 24:

From a historic Grand Départ in Denmark to stage wins at Magnus Cort, Mads Pedersen, Jonas Vingegaard and now a fantastic finish on the Champs-Élysées, where we could celebrate the tour's winner "Le Grand Danois" Jonas Vingegaard His energy, sportsmanship and willpower at this year's Tour de France has been exceptional to witness.
Congratulations on the victory and thank you for the great experience that the fight for the trophy has given us all in the month of July

And fully deserved.
Even though I may be slightly biased, it's my real impression that Vingegaard is a genuinely likable person and as such a good rolemodel.
It's good when the good guys win.
