I'm pretty sure that the mentioned lady is not Mary. Even from the distance, angle and with that bad photo quality, I feel certain that it's not her.

Crown Prince Frederik make an operation yesterday at the hospital at Rigshospitalet.
The operation was successful but expected that the Crown Prince's official activities will be canceled in the next couple of weeks.

Is it about his back? I keep seeing articles about his persisting back pain.

Hope he gets better soon

If google translate is correct his surgery was yesterday and he left the hospital this morning?.
A disc in his back?
His event today of course has been canceled as will his events in the coming days.

He had back problems for awhile, it must have been great that he was able to participate in the Royal Run this past May. And the Faroe Islands official visit.

Wishing a speedy recovery for Frederik

Yes, a herniated disk, or prolaps. (Not sure about the medical term in English.)

It can be pretty bad. It's after all not the first time he has had serious problems with his back.
PH suffered a lot of problems with his back - It didn't exactly help that he didn't lose weight and didn't excersize as much as he should have.
And QMII, you know her problems!

Frederik clearly belongs to the school of "pain is but an illusion" and "pain is weakness is leaving your body" - Not any longer, IMO!

The news is of course spreading here in DK, and as yet it is not known whether it was a planned operation or an acute operation. I lean towards the latter, because Frederik was to have taken part in the Flag Day commemorations this week and a business-promotion tour to Finland. That would have been cancelled, had this been a planned procedure.

I would think that the operation would have taken place in the summer break, if it was long planned.

(But maybe they didn't want to risk Frederik not recovering soon enough and thus missing the Faeroese visit?)

I hope he recovers soon

You are right Muhler a prolapsed disc. He must have been in a lot of pain. We all have to look after our little bodies and not ignore the signs. I hope he will learn to take life very steady for a good while and heal. And do what the physio tells him to do. That is physio therapist.

.

I also think it must have been an acute operation. Otherwise it wouldn't have been made on a Sunday and his schedule would have been attuned to it..

Yes its quite a shock to me as he is so fit. I wish him well. He should be able to recover quickly due to good health. However, bad backs do take time to recover.

According to the official calendar CP Mary will take over the visit to Finland.

BT has asked a back-specialist, Gilles Fournier, what his thoughts are regarding Frederik's back.

https://www.bt.dk/royale/laegens-dom...m-prins-henrik

He believes Frederik's prolapsed disk is more contributable to his genes, rather than his lifestyle.
PH suffered from the ailment and there is considerable evidence to support the notion that such a condition is genetic. In other words, some people are much more disposed for having a prolaps that others.
He does not believe the Royal Run itself would have triggered the prolaps which needed surgery, otherwise he would have needed a surgery shortly after.
But if you are prone to having a prolaps, then even a sneeze let alone lifting a child can trigger one.

It is hardly the top story here in DK today! Not in the serious papers.
The top story is a break down in the negotiations regarding the salary for our national male soccer team.
Had it been QMII, then I think it would have been a very different matter!

That is great that Mary can go over to Finland in Frederik's place. If I remember correctly Mary had no other public events those days so it works without having to cancel anything. This business trip had been in the works for a while so she can get her Frederik's notes and speeches : )

Thanks Muhler, sometimes genetics get the better of oneself. Hopefully his healthy lifestyle helps on his recovery. That he is not overweight should help, that's what the Dr. Told me when I had knee surgery.

Agree.

Frederik being as fit as he is, can only be beneficial. He is going to do a lot of excersize for the rest of his life, to keep another prolaps at bay. But he needs to be careful, we may not see him do another iron man or another marathon.
Swimming is good for patients with a poor back, I understand, so perhaps we will see him take part in a swimming event in the future.

Another doctor in another article suggested that his accident on the trampoline a few years back, may have been the thing that eventually has led up to this. I.e. that his spine was weakened and that weakness has led to this prolaps.

Welcome to middle age. I believe we spend the first 40 years of our life doing damage to ourselves. Because we feel invincible!
Then we spend the next 40 years trying to repair the damage.

I hope he recovers well and follows his new exercise regime.
And be careful playing with the puppy, playing with the children etc.

True, very true!

Let's have a couple of quotes about Frederik from Billed Bladet this week.

Mary first: "He is well, considering the circumstances. Thank you for asking." (Using informal you.)

QMII on Monday about Frederik undergoing surgery: "That's very sensible, I think."

Q: Has Your Majesty been in contact with the Crown Prince?
QMII: "No, I haven't yet been in contact with him, unfortunately. But I know he is well. He is already at home."

Q: That's pretty good less than 24 hours after undergoing surgery?
QMII: "Yes, it sure is, but it's going so fast these days."

BB has talked to doctors and based on that I think it will be quite a while before we will see Frederik up and about again.
Typically you are on sick leave four to eight weeks after a surgery. And he has to be careful for the first four-six weeks, even though you after four weeks can manage most day to day activities and after three months he is likely to be back to normal.
Frederik being fit means that he is likely to be back on his feet sooner than most.

And now a question for the TRF members in the know:
As you know there are the Invictus Games in Australia in October. How about such a long flight only, what is it? Five-six weeks after such a surgery?
Do you think it's more likely Frederik will be advised to stay at home?

After all I think it's safe to say M&F were also suppose to have some official jobs while in Australia. They are as you know typically promoting Danish commerce while abroad at other events.

Maybe Mary will go. Or J&M?
This is when it's good to have an extra couple in reserve.

The Invictus story was just a rumour, there was never a credible source given in any article.

In the Invictus thread poster Sun Lion has linked this article saying Danish Royal Palace denied Mary is going to Australia:
https://www.nowtolove.com.au/royals/...us-games-51029

As for Frederik, I think there is no chance her will be able or allowed by his doctor to make such a trip.
