I thought it was much longer than that? End of 2011?
Or have I forgotten something?

It was end of 2013

A trip like this requires a lot of planning for both the families in Denmark and Australia and also from Christian and Bellas school, but it could be lovely if it is correct.

No, they did not go to Tasmania in 2013. They stayed in Sydney and immediately returned home at the end of their official visit
Their last private visit (following an official visit) with their children was indeed in November 2011.

Thanks ricarda. That's what I thought. I didn't "count" the official visit without a trip home to Tasmania.

If it is correct, maybe they will celebrate New Year too? Or no, I don't think that can happen as F&M will be home for New Year's Banquet on the 1st Januar.

The DRF's communications chef Lene Balleby said: "We can't comment about that yet."
I hope it's correct. It could be nice, especially for Mary to celebrate Christmas with her family this and for the children to try an Australian Christmas. We know last year F&M had planned to hold a large Donaldson Christmas in Copenhagen, but had to cancel because of the large royal family Christmas at Fredensbrog, so I think there could be something about it
If, we will soon hear more.

CP Mary if the Patron of the University of Tasmania's 125th Anniversary celebrations which have been going on all year.
Mary attending something as these wind up ties in nicely with her sister's landmark birthday and visiting her Tassie friends and family.
(And yes, seems every second year coming back Down-Under is on. CP Mary's family came to Sydney in 2013 - remember the yacht photos with all the relatives, and her sisters saying they had breakfast together before the day's events etc.)
The gala "Starry Starry Night" ball for the Alannah and Madeline Foundation - of which CP Mary is the International Patron - is being held on November 21st this year.
I guess if indeed the CP Couple and their children are coming to Australia soon, Mary will not be at this event this time - (unless she heads here ahead of Frederik).

Unannounced Mary was seen with her children at a book fair in Copenhagen: http://www.bt.dk/royale/mary-overras...t-med-boernene
A gallery: Se billederne: Her tager Mary børnene med til bogforum - Royale | www.bt.dk
Mary, and her children, were also lending a hand to Carina Axelsson, who has written several books, both crime novels and novels for children.
She was present at the fair to promote her books.
With Mary and her children went Ellen Hillingsøe, who apparently supported Carina Axelsson (It's not that this BT article is particularly well-written!!) and her eleven year old daughter, Ellen.
Ellen Hillingsøe conducted an interview with Carina about her latest book, while Mary and her children and other visitors at the fair listened.
That is, Bella, listened attentively. Buuut, Josephine and Vincent being four years old, such an interview is a little bit boring.
Vincent, who sat on Mary's lap was wriggling a bit at some point.
And Josephine who sat on the lap of Ellen Hillingsøe's daughter also had a few problems sitting still. It helped roaming through the content of mother's bag though.
But it's very clear that Mary's children are very familiar with Carina Axelsson, because during the interview Bella and Josephine exchanged smiles and little waves with Carina.
When the interview ended Ellen Hillingsøe announced it was time for those who wished for their books to be signed by Carina to come forward, Bella's hand went up in the air instantly.
Bella and her two younger siblings mingled with people standing around the booth with Carina Axelsson and when it was time to leave, Mary had to call an extra time for Vincent: "We are going to the children's area now".
Christian was not present.
Carina Axelsson has written IIRC three crime novels about a sixteen year old girl, a model I think, who solves various mysteries within the fashion world.
Comments to the gallery:
I see Ellen Hillingsøe's daughter is not included in the gallery, even though she sat with Josephine. Probably a consideration from BT, since she's a child and very strictly speaking they would require a permission from Ellen Hillingsøe for showing a close-up at least.
Pic #2: To help pass the time, Vincent was playing with one of mother Mary's hair-clams I think they are called.
Pic #3: Bella and Ellen Hillingsøe.
Pic #4, I guess it's Ellen Hillingsøe's daughter who is playing with Josephine's hair. Her face is cropped out. Correction, it's Bella.
Pic #5: Sweet. It looks like Bella is at the stage where a finger is most helpful when you read.
Pic #6: Booooring!

Thank you, Roskilde and iceflower for sharing these photos of the family's visit to the book fair - how lovely of them to come unannounced, it must have been a treat for the people organising the book fair to have them suddenly turn up! They just look like any other family visiting the fair, which is nice.
I guess Christian is too old for this event, as judging by the photos, it seems to be mainly aimed at younger children, which might be why he didn't go. Little Vincent gets more adorable each time I see a new photo of him and I love this photo of him and his sister (Josephine's facial expression here is really cute - notice that Isabella is playing with her hair ).

"Hair clams"- I love it. We'd call them clips but considering their shape and function I could see how the the word "clam" would be perfect.

Is anything known about Mary's own reading habits, if she has any? A favorite author perhaps?

This is actually not a children's book fair but it does have a children's book section, which Mary and the kids visitited. Christian was somewhere else.

Yes, she spoke about it in an interview a few years back.
According to that it's my impression that she is reading books, novels, at a considerable level.
We are by no means talking about Bill & Ben westerns or love-stories about doctor meets patients and such.
She also reads the newspaper Politiken, which must be considered a paper for Copenhageners and for the cultured segment with at least some academic background. Its also aimed at the cafe latte people and for those whose political stance is center-right.
