In the paper of July 29th 2015 PETA mentions the horrible practices of breeding and killing crocodiles for their skins.
In a reaction on the PETA film, Jane Birkin, whose name is linked to that famous crocodile-bag, asked for a ban of the name Jane Birkin bag.
A few days ago the danish CP was ask for a reaction about her having such a bag.
She did not want to comment on the matter.
Therefore she was named the crocodile-tear princess, which means that her tears are crocodile-tears (fake tears)

 Just a second.
Are you saying the Dutch newspaper Telegraaf, asked Mary for a comment?
Interesting, because Ekstra Bladet's Jan Körner says he asked her and she declined to comment.
Considering how hostile Jan Körner is, I find it hard to blame Mary for not wishing to speak to him. Especially about a private matter.
So a Dutch newspaper is calling a foreign Crown Princess a hypocrite, for not commenting on a question by a Danish reporter? And doing it without even knowing whether Mary even has that bag anymore?
Talk about sensationalism!
ADDED: According to BB Frederik was ill this weekend. Guess we will learn more tomorrow.

Telegraaf prive mentioned EB as source and commented that the CP by not answering the question reacted as a closed oyster.
The top of the article says: Danish CP's crocodile tears¨

So wait this is all over a bag she used once, 8 years ago?
she was less experienced then and wouldn't be the first to use something that later is known to be problematic.

 I see.
Good grief. What happened to the old journalistic approach about asking the source, rather than blindly quoting what someone else is writing?
How can a bag made from skin be worth such an insane amount of money in the first place?
Is a bag this expensive an embarrassment for Mary? IMO yes.
Is a bag that is associated with deliberate animal cruelty an embarrassment? IMO yes. - Provided it's true. PETA is not above distorting facts and using propaganda methods.
So if the bag was a loan, it's probably long since been returned. If it was a present, someone at court may not have done their homework properly.
Presents to the DRF go through a vetting process to ascertain whether there are conditions attached. I remember translating an article about that some years ago.
Anyway, can anyone remember when or at what occasion Mary used that bag? Then I'll have a look in my archive.

An embarrassment years after she used it once?
And was the animal cruelty association known at the time?

If she owns the bag, then PR-wise it is. Because she'll get criticism for it. - Now.
If it was a loan, then problem solved long ago.
That Mary only seems to have used the thing once suggests it's either a loan or something that is collecting dust on the most remote shelve in her wardrobe along with other unmentionable presents better forgotten, like the pink sunglasses from Fċrup Sommerland or something like that.
But before we go too far, remember all this is based on a DRF-hostile reporter from Ekstra Bladet, whom Mary didn't want to answer a question from. (In fact I wouldn't blame her if she per reflex had hit him on the head with the bag she was carrying).
So I'd like to see the bag, have it ID'ed and preferably read what is known about it.
So, again, when did she use it?

Is he? DRF hostile, I mean. Does he write hostile "articles" about other members of the DRF as well?
(Other than Mary and/or Frederik.)
Something like this was expected from EB: Lots and lots of nice, positive stuff and huge amounts of photos of qute kids for the past month from Grċsten, photo sessions, car races etc. They always come up with something nice in times like that

Jan Körner is obsessively and ridiculously hostile towards the DRF.
And that is actually a pity, because he does raise issues that are worth looking at, but in such a way that's it's way over the top and so that no one takes him seriously. Certainly not the readers, judging from the comments.
Is this the thing? http://ekstrabladet.dk/migration_cat...0i%20Bruxelles
Worn at a visit to Bruxelles just prior to her 40th birthday in 2012.
Price 221.000 DKK.
It was a present. - Not by Frederik though.
I've seen a picture PM'ed to me by another member, where she is using the bag (or what in my eyes seems to be the same bag) on a private visit to London. (During a winter, judging from Mary's clothes).
The same member suggested it was a present from Marie-Chantal.

I don't know about that but I believe this is the bag in question on 2 different occasions:

I think it is wrong to kill crocodiles and any other animal for their skin, but since the bag is a present (because the bag isn't Mary's fault as she didn't buy it) and Mary has worn it before, it's old news so I don't have as big of a problem with it than I would if she brought it herself and this was the first time we'd seen her with it.
When the bag first made an appearence, was it identified as being made out of crocodile skin and were there any reactions to that in the Danish media?

Agree. You can hardly refuse a private present from another royal, who also happens to family. Albeit not that close.
As far as I know no one but Ekstra Bladet wrote about it back in 2012. I've treid but I haven't found anyone else writing about it. And so far no one else but EB (and Telegraaf who have translated word for word from EB) are writing about it now.
Thanks, Duke of Marmalade. That's the other picture.

Thanks Muhler. It's interesting that this is just cropping up in the media now then. Slow news week, perhaps.

Exactly.
And when there is not much to criticize, it always nice to go back in time and dig up some old news

I have to say I did think it was odd that a fuss was not made at the time.... seems a little late now... the bag is really expensive IMO more so than the luxury items she and the other CP's and Queen's use eg the Chanel items. It seems to me to be a storm in a teacup at this time.
She was ill advised maybe but who cares now ??

Just want to say that at least here in the US, the meat is also sold for a variety of uses. Still not a big fan of the practice, but they can use the whole animal.
