I thought they lived in Amalienborg, downtown Copenhagen? Danish members, do please explain?:flowers:

Not Danish, but my understanding is that Frederik and Mary lived at Fredensborg their first years, until the renovations were completed in Amalienborg, around the time the twins were born.
So for the first years, and when Christian and Isabella were born, they lived in Fredensborg.

Now that renovations have been done at Fredensborg, Frederik and Mary with family plan to live there in the summer months ( i think this was always their intention since Fredensborg has more nature surroundings)

They will live in Amalienborg the rest of the year.
Sort of how the Queen also moves around.

I might be off so forgive me if I add to the confusion :flowers:

When they move back to Fredensborg in May, how will it work out with children's school calendar? I'm confused on where they go to school now and how far they'll have to drive.

https://app.box.com/shared/czh3q46knz

Fredensborg is about an hours drive north of Copenhagen and as you can see from this map, the school Christian and Bella attends is in the northern part of Copenhagen, so it's on the way to and from Amalienborg.
And the kindergarten the twins attend is located a couple of hundred meters from Amalienborg.
So M&F can drop off the children on the way to the office in the morning and pick them up again in the afternoon on the way home. - Basically like the vast majority of parents here in DK.
And as farmor Margrethe also take the daily ride to the office at Amalienborg from Fredensborg, the children, in particular Bella and Christian may from time to time hitch a ride with her.

Polyesco is (naturally) spot on, so need to add anything. :)

Thank you Muhler and Polyesco for clearing away my confusion... my current bout of flu doesn't help much in improving my understanding, but I can follow what you suggest! The last question is whether Fredenborg-Amalienborg is cyclable; I imagine so because one always sees pictures of the Crown Prince Couple with the children on bikes!:flowers:
No, yet one more question; what will be on the table for Easter dinner in Danish families? The lovely pork shoulder, ham, lamb or spam? (sorry, you can tell my brain needs help right now!)

There is only one remedy for the flu, chilli-vodka.:wine::shock::w00t:
I mean it, a few solid drinks and it'll kill off the virus.
I'm convinced chilli-vodka saved me from getting ill in the winter of 2010. Waiting on icecold railway platforms every day for five weeks ought to have knocked me down with something. So to avoid such eventuality I had a couple of shots each evening. :D
Schnapps can be used too, but that require bigger shots.

Back to your question. The school is within reasonable cycling distance from Amalienborg. I wouldn't like to do it with children the age of Bella and Christian though. It is, as we all know, a scientific fact that all regular bicyclists are insane and ought to be lobotomized. So it's a bit risky.
You can cycle from Fredensborg to the school, if you don't mind peddalling away for a couple of hours. - I'd prefer the car!

And as to the Easter cuisine.
We do have traditions at Easter, but I don't know if they have anything to do with Easter itself.
When we are with Mrs. Muhler's part of the family, it's the big smorgasboard with schnapps. So she's driving, I love schnapps.
When we are with my side of the family we always have hamburgerryg (a kind of ham) with kale and glazed potatoes. http://www.maduniverset.dk/images/8241-ABCD0002.JPG
Don't know why, we just do and always have. This time I drive, because Mrs. Muhler likes to sample the Easter Brew. http://b.bimg.dk/node-images/152/6/...ebryg-er-mere-end-tuborgs-kylle-kylle---1.jpg
And being the considerate husband that I am, I stand back and indulge her. :innocent:

It's more the tablesetting that is special: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6OqR4zqfcqA/Tals6-fdeTI/AAAAAAAAA04/MroLihnOPwE/s1600/DSCF0061.JPG
We don't have a tradition for Easter bunnies, we have Easter-chickens and Easter eggs, lots of them! And all over the place, especially the dinner table: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_g-_651zGAtc/R-iqqvxvDJI/AAAAAAAACak/d39td7CaCbI/s400/kyllinger.jpg
I think it's a safe guess, when I say that the dinner table at Marselisborg during Easter will have a very strong Easter theme!

Anyway, I'm sure other Danes have more on their Easter traditions.

Guess it belongs here:

One of the top news in Danish media right now is that Frederik and Mary will attend as spectators to the Eurovision Song Contest 10th May in Copenhagen :flowers:

The media writes that they probably will take the children with them.

Mary will also attend the so called Family Semi-Final (8th May) where especially families with children are welcome. The chance for the children are with her are extra large here.

Will be fun :D

Thanks Muhler - as always, a very thorough post and explanation. My concern was more for Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine because a 1-hour drive is a lot just to attend pre-school! Maybe they won't go as often...! Or they will switch to the local school where Prince Christian and Princess Isabella went! :flowers:

It's a possibillity, but I don't think so. It is after all only about three months a years or so at the most they'll have to pendle. Because they will also be away on summer vacation for a month and a half. - And the twins grow up, so things will improve.
It will no doubt from time to time be a noisy ride back to Fredensborg with grumpy children but no worse than what so many other parents exprience. - While they ponder whether joining the Foreign Legion is such a daunting prospect after all...:p

The Queen and Prince Consort move to Fredensborg in early May, will Frederik and Mary move at the same time?
Perhaps they will attend the welcome (not sure what it is in Danish) that the locals have, I think we have seen them attend at least once.

As an example of an albeit very minor Mary-effect: Australiens ambassadør er vild med Aarhus - Lokalavisen Aarhus

An article in a local paper about the Australian ambassador visiting eight Australian exchange students from Hobart College in Tasmania, from where Mary graduated.
They are now currently studying at a business school in Aarhus. (No particular problem as a number of business schools in DK use English as the primary language).
Anyway, since the engagement between M&F such exhanges between Denmark and Australia, and predominantly Tasmania, has become very common indeed.

Will this book be available in English? (Eventually)

Will this book be available in English? (Eventually)

Don't think so.

This seems to be an "illustrated-walk-down-memory-lane-in-hardcover" book.

A collectors item for those very interested in M&F but I don't think it contains much news that the hardcore DRF-follower doesn't already know.

It would be another matter if it was a portrait book of say Mary, with now ten years of being a CP behind her, based on interviews. That's a book I'd pay good money for!

More about Frederik and Mary's upcoming 10th years anniversary.

DR will send an hour-long program (in prime time) on the very day 14th May:
Frederik og Mary: 10 år med Kronprinsparret på DR1

"DR looks back at the event which gathered together the whole Denmark in front of the tv-screens; The Crown Prince Couple's wedding. DR invites you to a joyful reunion with historical pictures from the day, added with highlights of the Crown Prince Couple's first ten years as husband and wife."

DR1 is one of our biggest channels (perhaps the biggest?) and can therefore be viewed live stream at dr.dk for the benefit of you outside Denmark :flowers: Even it of course will be in Danish.

Prince Christian is really getting big - now he´s attending concerts :wub::wub:

Although I am usually in favor of a bilingual education for children, I suppose it would be preferable if the prince missed some of the lyrics in this case ;).

Aww, Christian really isn't a little boy anymore.
How cool to be to Justin Timberlake concert with mom and dad :)

The BT gallery has been updated with pictures of Frederik, Mary and Christian:

Both Mary and Frederik were very well covered in the evening news. Frederik to the school Olympics and Mary meeting the young people at 'Home'.

Mary's visit got a quite long airtime and we saw Mary was invited into one of the girl, Karina's, room where they sat together on her bed and had a private little talk. When I noticed a funny thing: Mary "revealed" a little thing from the private life home at Frederik VIII's Palace:

They have just added two little guinea pigs into the family. :hamster:
I guess that Christian and Isabella have got each one. Vincent and Josephine still too small.

Guinea pigs are extremely popular among Danish children. I would almost bet that more than half of Danish children have had guinea pigs during their childhood. My daughter, for example, is a happy owner of her little guinea pig called Mille.

Quite a lovely pic of F+M

Can see Frederik as the leader of the family grabs his wife's arm and makes sure to get her and the friends behind them well into the concert. Or maybe he rather grab her arm and said: Come honey, let's get quickly past those SeogHør photographers

It's nice to see Christian out and about, especially with his parents. - I find he has a very pleasant face; his features are a pleasant combination of his parents' features.

We may have something to look forward to on the occasion of M&F's anniversary.

BB writes today that the photographer Mario Testino photographed M&F (and perhaps their children as well last year at Amalienborg.
To our reporter, Marianne Singer, testino confirms: "I have worked, not just bor the BRF but (I) also had the opportunity to photograph your Crown Prince and Crown Princess last year. The photographes are the royal documentation of our age and the history of the country".

Lene Balleby confirms that Mario Testino indeed did photograph M&F last year at Amalienborg.

Mario Testino has previously photographed Diana and W&K. There is a very warm pic of W&K in the article.

Are 8 year olds supposed to be the audience for Justin Timberlake? Well, at least they didnt go see Miley Cyrus!

:previous: Yes, Denmark are in is these days filled up with the Eurovision Song Contest. Singer Basim won and is our performer for the finals on Saturday night.

As planned, Mary, Christian and Isabella showed up on the red carpet today to the rehersal where Basim received them. No Frederik as he's busy these hours with an official event i Jutland, but he will be at the final on Saturday night with Mary.

Basim: "I'm excited to meet them and hear how much they have heard my song. It may well be that Mom and Dad are a little tired of hearing my song if they (Christian and Bella) have played my song again and again loudly in their rooms at home."

and I'll admit i look up the entry from Denmark for Eurovision and its indeed a catchy song :D

I like that Mary and Frederik are beginning to take them to concert. a great experience and a plus with going with them:flowers:

I have seen Justin in concert and he is a great live singer and entertainer.
I have seen children Christian's age in concerts
all depends on the maturity of the child

I do like that his parents went with him. For one of his first concerts, Justin is a great choice :flowers:

:previous: Nice to bring the kids to the show.
And a bit unusual to see Bella shy.

I understand that an Australian singer is going to entertain at the semifinals tonight? Australia, again I understand, have shown the European Song Contest for years. Perhaps the interest will be heightened a bit with M&F and the children there.

My personal favorite is the Polish entry. - And one of these days I'll actually listen to the song...:p
