Summary of article in Billed Bladet #28, 2014.
Written by our festival reporter Henrik Salling.
The annual Roskilde (music) Festival is very much comparable to Woodstock or Glastonbury and 80.000 people went this year and among the main attractions this year was the Rolling Stones.
And they were the ones M&F, along with some twenty friends arrived to see. Driving in a bus to Roskilde (some 40 minutes or so from Amalienborg).
Dressed casually and immediatly spotted by festival-goers and press. (*)
M&F and friends went straight for one of the temporary restaurants, Rest N'Eat, where they drank refreshments.
Holding Mary's hand Frederik explained: "We've come to hear Rolling Stones".
While Frederik have been to several music festivals, this was Mary's first.
After having enjoyed their refreshments M&F went behind the main stage to meet the Rolling Stones and afterwards Frederik was pretty delighted: "It was a huge experience. Richie, Jagger and Ronnie Wood are right here.
They are pretty damned relaxed and the Danes are so ready to recieve them. From the first accord and in the group's old tent. (**) It totally rocks".
After the concert Frederik said: "I think it was good. It was fantastic. They never die, these guys".
Mary agreed: "A unique experience. Legends. - It was a big experience to meet Mick Jagger".
The part drove back on the bus to Copenhagen late in the evening. (From a photo I can tell it was compltely dark and at this time of year that must be later than 23.30).
M&F also strolled around among the crowd at the festival, shook hands and exchanged a few words with a number of people. One of them being a Sven Houlberg, who has met Frederik once before. Judging from the swimming eyes in the photos, I'd say the good Sven had at least a couple of days of festival-mood behind him...! Frederik and Sven embraced and held hands and pressed their noses together (more likely due to a, shall we say, temporary motoric malfunction...) like the old buddies they were and eventually posing for a selfie.
Sven declared afterwards: "Frederik will be a fantastic king".
Frederik in particular mingled with people and dispenced with formal you's, using informal you's instead.
After the festival, M&F went to Tilsvilde for their summer holiday.
(*) Half the Danish press corps go to Roskilde each year, partly because it's in the middle of the Silly Season and partly to get free access to the concerts while "reporting on culture".
(**) No, I don't know what he means either.

As always, thanks for the translation, Muhler. Sounds like they all had a great time, (including, no doubt, the "hard working" reporter).

Are any Danish posters able to say how informed "royal expert" Jens Hovsgaard is?
He is quoted in one of the new magazines out in Oz today, saying CP Mary's October 2013 "Women's Weekly" cover was "a completely wrong signal".
The report says Mary was "given a slap on the wrist by the palace for going barefoot".
CP Mary "looks more like a Hollywood star than a head of state" says Jens, and goes onto quote him as saying that if the Danish Prime Minister did the same, "you would lose all respect for her".
Should Australia take this with a grain of salt - or is he a well-known commentator on the Danish Royal Family and knows what he is talking about?
(As an Australian I think being barefoot hit just the right note, making Mary not seem "too up herself" for us. And as they were taken by, and for use in, an Australian magazine - did many Danes actually see them?)

Jens Hovsgaard is a journalist who wrote a critical book of the DRF - a book where the facts that were presented are somewhat questionable.
While he may know a good deal about the finances of the DRF, I doubt very much he knows much about the protocol.
As such, just like other "experts" a dressing down of Mary would be his opinion (or perhaps wishful thinking) rather than something he knows.
- Not being a royal expert myself I'd say I doubt very much a barefooted Mary would cause QMII to as much as lift half an eyebrow. It's simply too trivial.
Mary would have had to pose naked on a bear rug or wearing lingerie before QMII would get off her chair.
A barefooted PM would cause no, repeat no, stir here in DK as well.
Perhaps Jens Hovsgaard ought to get into his timemachine and return home from the Victorian age he seems to have propelled himself back to.
Finally I'll ask my fellow Danes: Do you recall any debate or any controversy about Mary being bare footed in those pics? I don't.

Thank you Muhler.
Makes sense as we've just had the Crown Prince Couple attend a rock concert, which isn't everyone's cup of tea, and that doesn't seem to have upset anyone - so what's a couple of un-shod feet.

I don't recall seeing this Hovsgaards name before.
And I certainly have not seen or heard any critism about being bare foot.
I personally would welcome anyone who wants to photograph my bare feet.

I don't follow the tabloids or BB/SH etc. so I don't know if anything surfaced on that scene (not that it'd matter one bit).
In the more "serious" media I've not heard anything of that at all.
Hovsgaard made a book a year or so ago about the royal finances - I don't even recall it making much of a dent back then. The reviews were pretty scathing with the exception of the republican papers who heralded it as the abolishment of the monarchy. I've debated liberalists who used that book as a secondary source with little success (What is the cost of parliament? Do we really need it? How about the courts? Money down the drain, right?).
To me he was lobbed onto the same pile as Trine Villemann or whatever she's called. People waving their hands "Look at me over here!".
