Doesn't Australia already have a royal family? The idea that Dannebrog should make a trip around the world for Mary is rather farfetched. That Fredrik and Mary are the royals invited to celebrate the opera house seems like a major royal faux pas. I am very surprised Queen Margrethe allowed it.

By that you mean the English royal family I suppose. Well, to me she is Australian and is therefore a more appropriate connection. There are no Australian people in the English royal family and this couple are often here, behave well and are well loved. Perfect!

I think the fact that the Sydney Opera House, was conceived and largely built by a Danish architect and is in Australia, points perfectly to the Danish Crown Prince along with his wife (who is Australian by birth) to be there for the 40th anniversary. its just the perfect connection.

Any maybe the BRF were invited but no one could make it?
But i think the organizers wanted the CP couple to be there, it just makes perfect sense given the background of it all.

My understanding, from an interview of who's who at the Sydney Opera House, is that the BRF were not considered (not surprising since the English had nothing to do with it). They knew who they wanted and it was the perfect match you described. They said the invitation was given with great hopes and much excitement and received with the same. Lovely.

As an Australian, I see Mary as my "honorary" Aussie Princess, even tho I see her as a thoroughly Danish citizen. Gosh, That doesn't make much sense, but there you have it!!! Everyone in Australia knows that Mr Utzon a Danish Architect was responsible initially for the Sydney Opera House. So the Danish theme of having the Danish Crown Prince Couple here to celebrate the anniversary is quite fitting.

Muhler, what a dream trip that would be for all concerned.

Weather in late September in the southern states (below Brisbane) is still cool with spring typically quite windy and rainy (there is a term here "spring rains").

By late October it is warmer and probably a better time. November even better.

It would yes. :)
I thought so about the weather. But the problem is that Dannebrog needs to be back by no later than late November or stretching it, early December, in order for her to be refitted for the summer cruise the year after.

they could do what the BRF did with Britannia. The ship sailed ahead of the tour and the BRF flew out to meet it. THose were the days! Entertaining locals on board a little bit of Britain - wonderful

That's exactly what I had in mind. :)
And as a Dane I would also feel proud of showing off our royal yacht and presenting our royals in a very good setting.

I think this would not be feasible. It takes them away from their families and other work commitments for too long. There are also safety and insurance issues.

It does sound rather romantic though and would certainly get a lot of coverage.:)

Safety and insurance isn't that big a deal. That's why there will be a warship escorting Danneborg and she sails routinely in the North Atlantic and even though she has a tendency to roll, she can handle it.

And M&F doesn't have to be away for that long during the cruise. Say three weeks in Australia, including one week with the family before meeting up with Danneborg. And one week or so elsewhere. Isabella and Christian need not be away from school for more than two weeks.
The other members of the DRF can take turn in representing DK onboard Danneborg in other ports in other countries.

However, I think it will be awhile before that would happen. Planning alone from the moment the decision is made would take in my estimate at least three years, probably more likely five years. - And it may not be really realistic until M&F become king and queen.

That makes a lot of sense, Tarlita. :)
Even though I see Mary as the Danish Crown Princess, I also see her as the foremost ambassador for Australia.

- And she'll remain so for the rest of her life, at very little cost to the Australian taxpayers. ;)

And what a great job she does too. What a great bargain we have!

Love it too, those two have always had something with looking at each other's mouths, it's pretty cute.

It's great to see them out and about even it is their vacation. They seem to enjoy themselves.

Although I think Frederik only attend for his wife's and friends sake, don't think ballet is his cup of tea :p

Found this on Facebook: After the performance was Mary pictured in the company of the two Australian solo dancers Leanne Benjamin and Steven McRae.

I have to fully agree with you about Crown Prince Frederic's appearance. Unlike some actors such as Gerard Butler, Patrick Dempsey, or Paul Walker, he can not pull the unshaven look off. The colour of his jacket is nice though.

:ermm: . . . . Fred, you are Mary's best and most favoured accessory, but how on earth do you manage to go from this:

Good grief, he looks like an unmade bed that the kids have jumped all over!

And at the Ballet no less! What happened? :ROFLMAO:

Lol. I think he looks sexy.
But anyway, this event wasn't an offical event. Just a couple going out to a summertime outside event. ;)

he looks homeless.

but he also looks relaxed, happy and a man who is comfortable in his own skin is sexy enough for me...and it only counts if mary likes what she see's anyway:wub::kiss:

A few days not shaving produces the 'unmade bed' effect that many women find quite irresistible:flowers:. the ballet usually tells stories of rogue princes that are in disguise to win their princess so that the prince Frederik looks quite the part:lol::p

:previous: Ah, got it! He has pulled off a romantic fashion coup!!

All is forgiven . . . even those awful mustard trousers. :whistling:

Here's another gallery of Mary and Frederik at the World Ballet 2013 performance:

If Mary doesn't object who cares? I kind of like his tousled hair.. it looks sexy.

I always though he was the cutest grown up royal male heir... Haakon is sexy as hell, both Phil and Fil are mature and debonair, Charles...is Charles. Fred has that boyish charm.

Perfect descriptions of the male heirs, amaryllus!! And "boyish charm" is right on for Frederik!

...and they got the girls just right for them :)
