Is Mary taking a pic of the helicopter?

I hope not The castle is beautiful, though! The Castle "Egeskov is famous for being the best preserved moat castle in Europe"
I would love to bring my kids there!

It looks like the helicopter pilots are having fun, too (on the left of the picture).
I found two more pictures: https://sphotos-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/h...99822145_n.jpg

They were published on Tanja Jensen's Facebook page and yes, I guess the helicopter brought them there.

Egeskov is a great place, very fun for adults as well as for kids. Have been there several times before and it's superduper fun. And it is owned by Prince Vincent's godfather, Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille, so I'm sure it's not the first nor the last time they've gone there.

Yes, I'm a bit disappointed that they used a military aircraft for something which seems unnecessary but then I don't know what the policy is (but I'm sure Muhler will be able to enlighten us or point us in the right direction - I'm positive the topic has already been discussed at some point ).

The DRF (and government ministers, not to mention officers) often hitch a ride on helicopters.
IIRC there is now only one base for the EH101 in DK. So if a helicopter has been to Copenhagen or for whatever reason been operating in that part of the country, it still has to return to base in Jutland. So they can either fly empty or with passengers.
It's not like the DRF order a helicopter. It's more a question of the DRF asking whether there is a helicopter available and if they can hitch a ride.
Emergencies take priority in any case no matter who it is.
I can tell you that each and every day a helicopter transport the officer on watch of the day from the Defence Command in Copenhagen to the Navy Operational Command in Aarhus. - And back with the relieved officer.
They could go by train, that would take three hours and would be much cheaper.
That's 365 return flights a year. So the DRF getting a ride once in a while cant raise my blood pressure.
The crews need flight hours anyway.

Dear Muhler, thank you very much. As usual, a most clear, balanced, informative and clever answer. I was certain that the DRF is not in the habit of ordering helicopters for picnics but your answer has made me much more serene !!

Back home from Jordan Mary took yesterday her children out for a family outing to The Defence Day in Copenhagen. (According to various people on Facebook) I've been there with my oldest daughter too and it's a great experience for the children as well as for us adults. Children can be disguised as soldiers and they can try to sit in a fire truck, etc.

You can read about the day at The Danish Defence website
Beredskab.dk: Kom til Totalforsvarsdag 2013 på lørdag
"Come to The Defence Day in Copenhagen on Saturday 24 August.
Bring your children for an exciting day on Nordre Toldbod where a large number of
emergency operators show their equipment and demonstrates how to use it.
The exhibition opens at. 10.00 and is open to the public until at. 16.00. Admission is free. Bring your family for an exciting day."
