Did they arrive in the helicopter that is pictured in the background?

I hope not :ermm: The castle is beautiful, though! The Castle "Egeskov is famous for being the best preserved moat castle in Europe"

I would love to bring my kids there!

Actually, I remember, now! Thanks for re-posting the article.

It looks like the helicopter pilots are having fun, too (on the left of the picture).

I found two more pictures: https://sphotos-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/1002505_493130944102827_1999822145_n.jpg

They were published on Tanja Jensen's Facebook page and yes, I guess the helicopter brought them there.

Egeskov is a great place, very fun for adults as well as for kids. Have been there several times before and it's superduper fun. And it is owned by Prince Vincent's godfather, Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille, so I'm sure it's not the first nor the last time they've gone there.

Wish I had a helicopter to travel around in! lol

How cool is that? Looks like fun was had by all!!

cool and expensive!

Yes, I'm a bit disappointed that they used a military aircraft for something which seems unnecessary but then I don't know what the policy is (but I'm sure Muhler will be able to enlighten us or point us in the right direction - I'm positive the topic has already been discussed at some point :flowers:).

The DRF (and government ministers, not to mention officers) often hitch a ride on helicopters.
IIRC there is now only one base for the EH101 in DK. So if a helicopter has been to Copenhagen or for whatever reason been operating in that part of the country, it still has to return to base in Jutland. So they can either fly empty or with passengers.

It's not like the DRF order a helicopter. It's more a question of the DRF asking whether there is a helicopter available and if they can hitch a ride.
Emergencies take priority in any case no matter who it is.

I can tell you that each and every day a helicopter transport the officer on watch of the day from the Defence Command in Copenhagen to the Navy Operational Command in Aarhus. - And back with the relieved officer.
They could go by train, that would take three hours and would be much cheaper.
That's 365 return flights a year. So the DRF getting a ride once in a while cant raise my blood pressure.
The crews need flight hours anyway.

Dear Muhler, thank you very much. As usual, a most clear, balanced, informative and clever answer. I was certain that the DRF is not in the habit of ordering helicopters for picnics but your answer has made me much more serene :) !!

My pleasure, Juliette :)

Here are three more pics of Egeskov Slot/Castle: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/24/Egeskov_Slot_08.jpg

Judging from the long shadows it looks to me like they arrived very late in the afternoon and I also noticed the hay bales. The harvest is in, in most parts of the country now, so perhaps M&F were invited to a hay-ball.

I also noticed the picture with the helicopter taking off. With a crew of three-four, there is at least one man in surplus, perhaps another passenger who got a ride?

Back home from Jordan Mary took yesterday her children out for a family outing to The Defence Day in Copenhagen. (According to various people on Facebook) I've been there with my oldest daughter too and it's a great experience for the children as well as for us adults. Children can be disguised as soldiers and they can try to sit in a fire truck, etc.

How exciting for you! I couldn't access your photos, however.

Some pictures of Mary and the children from Frederik's Ironman, which I think we haven't seen.

Mary and Josephine having a little nose kiss

The picture where Mary and Josephine both smile is just too precious! Very cute. I love how the "girls" look very coordinated style-wise! Thanks for posting! :flowers:

And there are those who claim Mary is a cold and distant mother...

Well, the kids sure are good actors...

Nice find, Roskilde. :flowers:

Yes it's a lovely picture of them, you can see it here in bigger version and without watermarks.

Muhler has given us a great summary from BB about the family and friends who supported Frederik last Sunday, all with coffee in paper cups. Here are some scans from BB, maybe you can recognize some of the friends.

Here is Ellen Hillingsøe (a good friend of both M+F) and Dorthe Wedellsborg
https://sphotos-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/1175549_533102900094812_756872827_n.jpg

Mary's two very close (maybe the closest?) friends Birgitte Handwerk with daughter India and Caroline Heering with daughter Emilie.

Family and friends cheering for Frederik outside the Christian VIII mansion. I can spot Julie Mølsgaard next to Mary. Also a very close and longtime friend of both Mary and Frederik.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #35, 2013.
Mary hyggede med børnene - Mary had a cosy time with the children.
Written by the Ulrik Ulriksen.

Last Saturday was Total Defence Day Copenhagen. The Total Defence encompass the armed forces, including the Home Guard, Civil Defence, police, ambulance and firebrigades and other rescue services. All these held an exhibition just a few hundred meters up the quay from Amalienborg, so Mary, a nanny, and the children, flanked by the usual anonymous gentlemen strolled from Amalienborg to the exhibition.

As a second lieutenant in the Army Home Guard, Mary is attached to the HQ company in Copenhagen, which is a part of Total Defence Region Sjælland/Zealand. But this was just a private outing with the kids.
Mary and co arrived at 11.30 to get a good seat for the big event; a simulated rescue by a helicopter out in the harbour, right next to Dannebrog which is anchored there. The twins were pulled out of their twin stroller and sat with mother at the edge of the quay along with Bella and Christian and their nanny, Mette Hansen, (*) and watched the show with considerable fascination.

Apart from that there was plenty to look at. Fireengines and ambulances. Bella and Christian went inside one and he played patient on the stretcher, while Bella had a chat with a paramedic. That wasn't the only one Bella chatted up, she also had a good talk with a Home Guardsman.
All the children got a bloody wound on their legs applied by a medic from the Army Home Guard. Vincent sat on the lap of Christian while his very dramatic wound was applied to his leg. He was told to keep his leg of his shorts away from the "wound" until the make-up dried, something Vincent appeard to be taking very seriously because he is seen pulling up his trouser leg in several pics long after the make up must have dried.
The children climbed on to a fire engine and here was what I think is the mascot, a border collie, and Vincint who is used to dogs went straight up to the animal, - while pulling up his leg...
Josephine was seen talking to her mother near an ambulance, presumably explaining mother what the purpose of that vehicle is.
Christian was seen wearing a "tattoo" on his left arm.

After a couple of hours the whole group walked back to Amalienborg.

(*) Mette Hansen was Christian's first nanny, and everyone who has seen the pics of Christian with her, opening the new elephant house in Copenhagen Zoo some years ago, know that it is genuine love between the two of them. - It's good that she is back.

Plenty of stuff in BB this week. It'll probably take a couple of days to summarize it all.

sounds like a cosy and funny day. the part with vincent constantly pulling up his pants are wonderful ;-) what a little well behaved boy. i will buy the magazine tommorow i must see the photos ;-)
