Not sure in what thread to put this in, but since its both prince Henrik and CP Frederik, I'll put it here

HRH Crown Prince participates in sailing competition "Prince Henrik Silver Trophy" in Hong Kong from 23 - 29 January.

Prince Henrik was listed as attending from the 22 to 29.

Thanks for keeping an eye on Frederik for us, Polyesco.

You won't happen to also know how he's doing?

The Royal website has an event yesterday for the Queen with Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attending. I think it is to do with the Navy.
Will there be photos or is this classed as a private event?

Sorry, I tried to link to the page but it just doesn't want to work.

Yes, that's the dinner for officers in the navy, commodores and up, who have also recieved an order for honorable service.

The order/medal was started in 1801, when the government feared they couldn't keep the skilled workers and craftmen at the naval yard. So in order to keep those people around, who were essential for building and maintaining warships they could get an order after a certain time of service.

This was during the Napoleonic wars and skilled craftsmen who were specialists in warships were in very high demand and they could get a very high salary. Not least Britain had an almost insatiable appetite for shipbuilders.

Nowadays you get the order after 25 years of service in the navy. Admirals and commodores almost all have 25 years of service behind them and they are so high up the ranks that dining with the Monarch is hardly a novelty.

They already have their medals. This is a dinner for people who have already served in the navy for at least 25 years - and who has reached the ranks of commodore and up.

Next year there will be a similar dinner for officers in the army of the airforce. That at least is how I understood the background info of the DRF-site.

If I am not mistaken, there have been no photos from this event in the past years.

Oh I see, in that case we won't see photos of the dinner if they already have the medals.

Thanks for the pics.

Let's have a closer look at some of the very HQ pics, shall we?

https://www.box.com/s/ws01shcts0v36w4v6sqs Here our Marie is being decorated for good service/conduct by the manager of DEMA/Civil Defence Henning Thiesen. - Even though his official title is manager, he holds a rank equivalent to lieutenant general. Marie appears to have been promoted, she holds the rank equivalent to first lieutenant.
The decoration is actually deserved as DEMA has gotten a good deal more press since Marie joined - apart from when they are actually called out. Hopefully this will attract more female members.
The Home Guard, which Mary is a member of, has had a considerable influx of new female members over the past years. Not only because of Mary though.
The other ribbons Marie is wearing are the Order of the Elephant and the Grand Cross of the Order of Dannebrog. Easy to recognice because they are distinctly light blue.

https://www.box.com/s/qlpjgtslguyr15dh7yey
Notice Marie's LiW, Britt Siesbye in the background. Also in DEMA uniform, but she is only a private.
Caroline Heering, who has accompanied Mary in the Army Home Guard, has the same rank as Mary, second lieutenant.

https://www.box.com/s/82w0d08i5qltv0t6y13u
Since DEMA became a part of the Total Defence, which include rescue services, law enforcement, military, Home Guard and so on, it has become much more uniformed. Earlier when the official name was the Civil Defence, it was under the Ministry of Interior, rather than the Ministry of Defence, as it is now.
From left to right we have la charmant Marie, QMII, what I presume is the local column commander - equivalent to full colonel, the manager of DEMA and the Minister of Defence Nick Hækkerup.
In the background we can see that QMII brought no less than two guards adjutants with her.

PET are there as well, but more relaxed than yesterday. Where a PET officer fell victim of a tomato hurled at the Prime Minister. 1st May did indeed become very hot for the government!

Thanks a lot for the additional information, Muhler!

I've enjoyed seeing these two attending an event together, would be great if there were more of these Marie-Margrethe or Mary-Margrethe events!

This for example is a wonderful pic!

So do I. - And Mary/Marie + Henrik too. That would almost with guarantee be funny.

It sure is a nice pic and now we can better see what decorations our Marie is wearing.
The ribbons are from top: The Order of the Elephant, not entirely sure but almost certainly the Grand Cross of the Order of Dannebrog. (I understand that ribbon is normally red and white, but royals are different).
Bottom from our left: The Commemoration Medal for QMII's 40th jubilee, Commemoration Medal for QMII's 70th birthday and I can't see the last but a very qualified guess would be The Commemoration Medal for the 75th birthday of the Prince Consort.
Marie is not yet wearing the ribbon for the Civil Defence order. - That is going to be red and white and usually you only get it after 25 years of service, but royals are different.
