The bushfires are unprecedented. The destruction to the environment, communities and the country as a whole is beyond what we knew. CP Mary grew up in Australia, and would have remembered Ash Wednesday - our now second worse bushfire catastrophe.
I am so pleased she wrote a letter, which wasn't "boiler-plate", or a template-version we would usually get, i.e. from senior royals in the BRF. It was personal. I can believe that QMII and CP Frederik, together with the Government of Denmark would agree someone who is Australian born and raised was in the best position to comment. It also shows the deep connection and relationship Denmark, as a whole, has developed with Australia since 2003, when the then Mary Donaldson became engaged to CP Frederik.

It's distressing enough for people outside of Australia/who aren't Australian to see. I can't imagine the horror of knowing that's your country practically burning to the ground. Hopefully, Mary's family is safe, wherever they happen to be living right now. I don't doubt if they had to evacuate, Mary and Frederik would open their home to them, no questions asked.

Indeed. I think it's safe to say that Australia and the Australians has a very positive reputation in DK, also before Mary.
Not least I think, because we share a similar laid back attitude and a similar form of humor with a constant use of irony and self-disparaging.
In that context some 200 DK firefighters are willing to go to Australia to relieve the no doubt exhausted firefighters there. But they need funding getting there.
It's a nice offer, but I'm not sure they will be of much use.
Even though many DK firefighters have experience in fighting forest fires in Sweden, it's was just as much their heavy equipment that was sought after. Logistically speaking it does present a few problems sending heavy vehicles and equipment to Australia fast enough.
But of course should Australia ask for personnel to relieve their own firefighters, there would be no political or public objections against sending entire columns (companies) from the Civil Defense.
The will to help is there, Australia just has to say what you need.

I looked at the pictures of Frederik today and thought he looked so good, now I’m seeing the photos of Mary again today and think the same thing. She beams, and Frederik too. I think these weeks in the fresh air of the mountains and a less tight schulde (for the first time in 15 years) does them very good

Great to se our lovely Mary back even only for a couple of days.
She needs of course to be with their children, but I do miss seeing her when she is not around for so long. But you will never regrets the time you spend on your children.

The Palace announced today that Crown Princess Mary's participation in the OECD 2020 Global Forum on Environment in Paris today and tomorrow has been cancelled.
Acoording to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs the meeting will have a trimmed-down programme due to the situation with COVID-19, so it would no longer make sense for Mary to attend.

I have thought all morning that a cancellation very well could become a reality now that Covid-19 is in such wide spread.
A pity because I looked forward to seeing and hearing the opening speech of the Crown Princess. Always very informative. Plus we can be sure Crown Princess Mary has spent a lot of time and put a lot of work into the speech and preparation for the visit.
But most important: that's a responsible decision now that Covid-19 has proven to be spreading globally so quickly. And France is hard affected.

Well, that's almost certainly not going to be the last event to be cancelled.

You are right Muhler, we have as yet few cases and more self-isolating but even in the dying days of Summer, early Autumn we do have cases. Last weekend it was in the low 30°s so temperature doesn't seem to affect the spread of the virus so many engagements at close quarters may be postponed.
I would be wrong but it seemed there was no enthusiastic hand shaking and when they all posed for their photo instead of standing close as is usual everybody seemed to stand just outside the next person's 'personal space. Interesting development.

CP Mary today 14 May:
"Today I met with Development Minister Rasmus Prehn, where - as you can see at a good distance - we discussed both the short and long-term consequences of the Covid19 crisis for girls and women's everyday lives around the world, in relation to education, violence, maternal mortality , child marriages, unwanted pregnancies ..and I could stay.
Overall reproductive health and rights. We also talked about our shared concern about the risk of losing the progress of girls and women achieved so far. And about the importance of focusing on how the pandemic specifically affects girls and women, and on how we ensure that our response to the crisis reflects just that."

Very important topic.
It must feel great to meet in person again.
And this map room is often where we see Frederik hold meetings, nice to see from a different angle.

Yes, they are coming out of isolation as well, so I guess we will see them out and about within a couple of weeks.
I think QMII will hold back this side of the summer holidays.

Queen Margrethe is a heavy smoker and she's over 65 years old. Therefore, she would be wise to avoid crowds until this Covid-19 nightmare is over.
