When she was five she had a younger sister, which the mother was unable to look after in a proper manner, so Julie had to look after, feed, comfort, change nappies on a child just a few years younger than herself.
After being taken shoplifting she realized she needed help.
- Her story is a success. She is now a psychology student and she has a good relationship with her mother.
Julie was one of the young people Marys spoke with in private at her visit to TUBA. The details are not and will not be disclosed.
Julie was in tears afterwards. I can only imagine what feeling must have gone through her head at this meeting.
- There are an estimated 200.000 alcoholics in Denmark. That covers anything from those who go on a fairly regular binge, to weekend-drinkers to social-drinkers, to those who drink on a daily basis with the bottle hidden behind the books on the shelves - to the end station: those who sit on the bench.
I have personally worked with many alcoholics in the various places I worked over the years. In some places drinking at work it was endemic, an acceptable part of the work-culture and if you didn't drink, you were an outsider.
I will estimate some 20-25 % of those alcoholics I've worked with ended up on the bench eventually. Many if not most had children - who are prime candidates for an organization like TUBA.

Thanks Muhler :) You know, I was doing too complicated dinner tonight to I could multitask.
Good coverage of the visit. TV2 Lorry had a longer feature as well. Maybe they put it online in some hours.
A beautiful picture of Mary at todays's teraphy session!

 We can't manage all.
Here is the clip from Tv2 Lorry: Lorry
The woman in focus here had a mother who was an alcoholic. When she was eight years old, her dad walked out and she hasn't seen him since. And from that day, she became the adult at home, because her mother was too drunk. That also included looking after two younger siblings.
She is still struggling with a sense of guilt after having to leave her siblings when she was sixteen.
She also talks about the sense of shame she had as a child of having a mother who was an alcoholic and who wasn't a real mother. - And who can an "adult child" go to? Friends? No, they are children. Teachers? No. What would happen to her mother? Her siblings? To her?
She said Mary was good at respecting her boundaries while still making the conversation they had very personal.

It's wonderful, that royals are not afraid to bring attention to causes that are labeled as 'taboo', and not really talked about. That is the best way to raise awareness, and to make sure that the people effected get the necessary support. My proverbial hat goes off to Crown Princess Mary. She's indeed an assist to Denmark.

Tuba themselves tell about the Crown Princess' visit:
With big curiosity and warm eyes Her Royal Highness today met Lisa, Julie, Mathias and Randi - four of Tubas young ambassadors. Each told their personal stories about growing up in a home with addictions. HRH the Crown Princess asked interested into their course in TUBA as well as their role as ambassadors.
"One can almost imagine that working as an ambassador also acts as a form of therapy", says the Crown Princess.

As we know, Mary is fully committed to her work and it was Mary who wished to re-visit TUBA after she and Frederik last year honored them with The Crown Prince Couple's Social Price 2014.
One of the young people, Therese Alexandra Evald, on her Facebook yesterday:
"In September, I experienced a very committed Crown Princess who insisted on visiting us in TUBA. I am therefore very proud and touched that the Crown Princess today fulfilled that promise. Well done to all!"

Two events/meeting today has in the last minute been added for Mary in the calender:
Quote:
Crown Princess Mary attends a meeting with Foreign Minister Christian Jensen and Executive Director of UNFPA at the Ministry of Foregin Affairs of Dk.
Copenhagen at 13:25.
|
Quote:
Crown Princess Mary receives Dr Babatunde Osotimehin in Frederik VIII's Palace, Amalienborg, at 15:15.
|
The last event there will be 'no press access' - and probably not much more than a picture or two from the meeting with Foreign Minister Christian Jensen and Executive Director of UNFPA taken by a photografer in the Ministry of Foregin.
It is such meetings the royals probably has many of, but it is work the general public never seen.

Is there a reason these meetings have been published while those others are not?
Her skirt looks lovely.

One reason for this particular meeting to have been added to the calendar is probably:
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Kristian Jensen:
"Denmark is at the forefront when it comes to the fight for women's right to decide over their own bodies. And the struggle continues on my watch. This commitment I have given to Crown Princess and Dr. Babatunde at our meeting, "said Kristian Jensen."
Other than that....The court is very inconsistent in the way meetings and audiences are added to the calendar....Especially Frederik's
Don't know why....
From time to time, news and sometimes a photo or two of his meetings, visits and audiences pop up somewhere on the net, sometimes months after the fact.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #35, 2015.
Written by the Ulrik Ulriksen.
As you know Mary recently visited a local branch of TUBA in Copenhagen, an organization dedicated to supporting and helping young and children who live or have lived in families where there is an alcoholic. Usually a parent.
TUBA has been around since 1997 and they have nineteen local offices around the country and in 2014 they helped some 7.000 young and children.
Anyway, Mary stayed for a couple of hours and here she talked with those present, but she also took part in a therapy session where the press did not have access.
This was a new experience for Mary and even though she apparently didn't have an active role it made an impression on her.
One thing the press did have access to was a conversation between Mary and one of the young, 24 year old Lisa Kjer and she has had her share of issues in her life!
She said: "Today I live more in the present and I wish for myself to create that nuclear-family I didn't experience while growing up".
Mary thanked her: "Thanks for the chat".
She was also taken for a tour of the place by 23 year old Julie Dahl, who told a visibly moved Mary her story.

The Royal Court has now uploaded a picture from the last meeting Mary held home in Frederik VIII's Palace after the meeting at the Ministry of Foregin Affairs of Denmark.
