VIDEO: Kronprinsesse Mary legede med børn | Billed Bladet
A video from BB.
The sensory garden at this crisis center is a way to help people, perhaps especially smaller children, to open up and talk about their issues by placing them in a calmer environment. That is, a place different from the usual room with a chair and a psychologist.
By petting a hen, or being in a field of flowers or simply by looking and listing to a "spring" emerging from the ground, it is hoped that children who have witnessed abuse and perhaps even suffered abuse, will come out from their own inner hiding place and enter a place that is perhaps similar and in that way start the healing process.

Thanks Muhler,
The little boy holding Mary's hand is named Daniel and he showed her around in the sensory garden. He asked Mary if she wanted to go with him into the chickens in the henhouse to gather eggs. And that would Mary like to do. The article doesn't tell how many eggs they gathered though.
These environments are very useful and great for a crisis shelter. At the one Mary opened I see there's both small waterfalls, animals, hen house etc. I hope many more crisis shelters will follow after. But of course, everything costs... Having worked in a crisis shelter myself I know how much the residents use and enjoy the garden around. It's good for them.

The sensory garden. That all sounds very lovely. A great idea, especially for children who bottle up there worries and don't discuss what bothers them. To me Denmark appears to be such a progressive place. Far in advance to Australia.

Fun event ahead
Today, Crown Princess Mary will crawl to the top of the old Danish Little Belt Bridge and inaugurate the new tourist attraction "Bridge Walking Little Belt." It takes place 60 meters above the Earth's water surface and the idea is picked up in Sydney where BridgeClimb is a major tourist attraction. Therefore, it's of course also our Crown Princess Mary who will jump in the right equipment and cut the ribbon when she after about 30 minutes walk reaches the top of the bridge and thus inaugurates Denmark's new tourist attraction. All will after the opening have the opportunity to be connected to a safety line and walking up on a guided tour and enjoy the view of Middelfart, Fredericia and the meandering Little Belt.
The inauguration will be a eventful and festive day of activities for all - on the bridge, as well as on land.
Programme:
10:00: The area opens. There are stalls where you can buy food and drink. And many fun activities for children.
10:30 The Garden entertains.
11:00 HRH Crown Princess Mary arriving at the square.
11:05 Speeches by Mayor Steen Dahlstrøm, Mayor of Fredericia Jacob Bjerregaard, the Australian Ambassador Damien Miller, Transport Minister Magnus Heunicke and Director of Rail Net Denmark, Jesper Hansen.
11:45 HRH Crown Princess Mary begin her bridgewalk and it can be followed live via big screen in the square.
12:15 HRH Crown Princess Mary's stop in the middle of the bridge and declares Bridge Walking for open. 3,000 balloons are sent up in the air from a boat on the Little Belt.
12:40 HRH Crown Princess Mary will drive in vintage car from the Old Little Belt Bridge to Trinity Hotel & Conference Center.
13.10: HRH Crown Princess Mary says goodbye for today and drive in Kronebil from Trinity Hotel to Copenhagen.
16.00 The activities in the square Bridgewalkings place ends.

I know that Mary and Frederik together has been on bridgewalking over the bridge in Sydney. And if I remember correct they both were again during their official visit to Australia in 2005, weren't they?

Live Tv from the event: LIVE-TV: Nu ankommer kronprinsesse Mary til Lillebælt - fyens.dk - Middelfart
Speeches right now. The walk will hopefully begin shortly.
They go on forever! - Don't they know about keeping it short and sweet?
Well, have a nice walk Mary, the garden is waiting. Gotta go.

Hard to keep up with all the coverage, but here an good article with words from Mary after her walk: I take the children along next time:
Mary: Jeg tager mine børn med næste gang - fyens.dk - Middelfart
(Not having so much time right now, so it gonna be in the good old Google translate way )
Mary talked with press when she was on mainland in Fredericia after the tour of the Old Little Belt Bridge. And she was thrilled!
It was a huge experience, even though the wind was a little tough.
- I hope that there will be many who will use this new great opportunity.
She said she and Frederik had previously been bridge walking on Habour Bridge in Sidney:
- There you go in the middle of the city. Here you go in the middle of the nature. It's fantastic.
She also assured that she will come again when her four children all have passed 140 centimeters in height which is the requirement if you will bridge walk over the Old Little Belt Bridge. They should also have experience. Right now it's only Christian who is height enough.
Mary felt at no time on shaky ground she could tell the large number of media and press there were met up. In addition to the Danish media and nationwide TV stations was also an Australian broadcaster.
Mary walked briskly over the bridge and got much applause and comments from the audience. Among other things from a little girl who said: "You're so cool, Mary."
Finally, it was the official plan that Mary should been drove to the Trinity Hotel & Conference Center in Fredericia in a vintage car. Unexpectedly, it was Mary herself who sat behind the wheel - and drove the veteran car to the hotel herself.
- It was another great experience today.

Thanks Roskilde for your brilliant coverage.
A couple of additional details:
There are two bridges over Little Belt, placed next to each other. This one is the old one from the 1930's.
This one is not a suspension bridge but a low straight bridge with steel-girders, so the height is "only" 60 meters above the water. And that means most people with legs in just reasonable working order can do the walk.
But, - there is always a but. It will mostly be a lot more windy than at Sydney and colder! In fact the wind today almost led the organizers to consider cancelling the walk.
And it was a cool car. I wish we could get more pics of the Car. - And of Mary too - in the car.
BB has a video: http://www.billedbladet.dk/kongelige...-mary-til-tops
The royal dog-petting was very much because the dog was accompanying girl guides who had baked supplies for people present, so they got special attention form Mary.
Somewhat untraditional Mary opened the walk by radio, while up on the gangway. There is after all a limit to how many people you can cram onto a gangway.
Mary said when she was down that it was a huge experience and that the view is terrific but it's very windy and she really hope many will use the opportunity to do the walk. She couldn't quite remember when she last walked Sydney Harbour Bridge, that was in... 2011'ish. And she's fine with heights.
The car is from 1928.
The bridge opening was very well covered in the 19.00 news tonight.
And here are two vids from the local news.
I wonder if you can watch them.
If you can't this post will be deleted.
From the actual opening of the two-hour walk, after which 2.000 balloons were released from a fishing vessel under the bridge: Bridgewalking er åben - tv2fyn.dk - Fyn - Middelfart
Bridgewalking er åben - tv2fyn.dk - Fyn - Middelfart
A wind-blown Mary talking about the experience afterwards and accidentally honking the horn, when she was to drive the car:
And additional video: http://www.tvsyd.dk/artikel/283274:F...paa-broen?rss=
In the News segment the Minister of Transport, Heunicke, was interviewed and in contrast to Mary he does have slight issues with heights! So he held tightly on to the railings at the beginning of the walk. But then he noticed Mary strolling ahead without holding on to anything. Okay, if the Crown Princess can do it, then he can as well, so he let go of the railing.

 Thanks.
If it's BB's Ken Richter who will be covering this event, chances are that he will devote a third of the article to this car. He's done that before.

Here is the clip from TV2's main news tonight:
Godt gået: Kronprinsesse Mary gik forrest - ministeren havde højdeskræk | Nyhederne
l noticed that a journalist said "informal" you to Mary during the interview. Never a thing neither Mary or Frederik seems to take the least care of, though. To be honest, I sometimes doubt they even notice it.
**
TV2 news on their Facebook page: Well done, Mary!
https://www.facebook.com/tv2nyhedern...98840350131603
Particularly in reference to our somewhat less brave Minister for Transport, Magnus Heunicke:
- I started with just strolling on while holding firmly on and walking a but stooping, but then I saw the Crown Princess strolling ahead without holding on to anything at all.
- Then I thought, I must be able to do that too, so I actually got to bay with some of my fear of heights.
(Another thing.. Reading the comments on TV2's Facebook (main news channel) shows again Mary's (not surprisingly) popularity. One of the comments is even "Mary as Prime Minister! She is more worthy for the post than any of our politicians." Frederik and Mary has a huge folksy support by the people. Margrethe very much as well. It's a great strength for our monarchy. I have also read that Prime Minister comment about both Frederik and Margrethe as well. But I think we should take it with a loving twinkle in the eye..)
