Pity it was a rainy day but nevertheless I guess Mary cheered a lot of people up showing up in such a vibrant green trench coat.
Not fond of when Mary has her hat brims quite low, makes her look like she is having trouble seeing stuff like in this picture.

I don't understand that outfit at all - that's a whole lot of green! And I especially don't understand that she has paired that hat with that trench coat

I know it was a rainy day and all, but honestly, to me, Mary has lost some of her old spark. Perhaps it's due to the demands of raising twins, plus 2 older siblings. Lately her overall apperance just seems to be lackluster - she looks tired mostly. I really don't mean to criticize her personally as I believe she has a lot of pressure to look perfect at all times -- it's just my observation.

Don't like it at all. Her outfit is absolutley not flattering her. The shoes are nice but that is all.

Well I admit her raincoat does look like it could have come from Queen Margrethe's closet but CP Mary is a real trooper. On a rainy and gloomy day she keeps smiling and meeting and greeting and, to me, looking like she's enjoying every minute.

You're absolutely right Carrief It's her attitude toward her jobs that is the most important thing here - and IMO she always seems very committed.
And it has been a ghastly day here weatherwise today, so her green coat was probably very suitable.

Mary herself looks beautiful but that jacket may be the worst thing I've ever seen her, (or maybe anyone), wear. I'm trying to think of someone who could make that shade of green work and I can't.
That being said it certainly brightens up what looks like a very dull day in Denmark. :) I wonder if either Mary or Frederik have any interest in gardening, etc?

Personally, I like the coat, and the color. Imho she pulls it off quite well. Nice and cheery on an otherwise dull day.

A charming little article from BB about Mary and some kindergarten children: Billed-Bladet - Børn på prinsessejagt overså Mary
Mary arrived at the garden event in between heavy showers.
The gardens at Frederiksborg are big and are located north of the castle, across the lake. And it was here Mary encountered some children. Mary asked: "What are you doing here"?
The children replied: "We are on a princess-hunt".
Mary smiled: "Have you found one, then? I haven't seen any".
The children: "No we haven't".
So that explains Mary's attire. It's camuflage.
Now, I have no idea about fashion so I find Mary's raincoat refreshing and her sunhat sweet and optimistic. - We sure need it!
As the summer here in DK appears to have been cancelled due to the financial crisis, it's nice to see some colors.
I guess Amalienborg is also affected by the waterpollution? Like most of down town Copenhagen.
For those who are uninformed: Due to the heavy rain, the watersupply to Copenhagen has been contaminated. As such people have been advised to boil tap-water before usage. And Amalienborg is smack in the middle of the affected area. - Not that there is much risk, if you are healthy. The authorities just put the safety level at: better very safe than sorry.

Now we can drink tap-water again. Well, at least if you don´t live in the area surrounded by 4 namegiven streets and Amalienborg is included in that area, so no problems there :)

What a sweet story! I wonder if the children realised their "stranger in the woods" was a real-life princess

I wonder if someone didn't tell the children.
That's the problem with kindergarten children, they expect a princess to wear a crown and a big gown. And what they see is just a lady, in this case just a lady in a raincoat.
Just one more of life's illusions going up in smoke....
Now, it's completely different matter if the DRF are escorted by police on motorbikes! Wow, that's cool.

You mean Amalienborg is not in the area?
----------------
I had a look at the magazine, which arrange this garden fair and it appears Mary has been to that fair in previous years. - I just can't remember.
Anyway, here is a pic of how Mary looked on another occasion and we can also have an idea about what she wore beneath the now famous or infamous raincoat: Presse - Garden Living Magasin
I guess the summerhat would have been most appropriate had Mary been able to take off her raincoat. But alas, that is something neither Mary nor the fashion gurus can control.
She has been there before in 2005, when the climate was more benign: Garden Living Fair er en af Europas 12 smukkeste - sn.dk - Sjællands Nyheder

I imagine the children were told she was a real princess dressed for the wet weather. Is this the green overcoat she wore on the way to the Dannebrog over the pink gown for Fred's 40 th birthday lunch a couple of years ago?
