What a "get" for Denmark! I mean the biggest bicycle race in the world?!? You cannot get better PR than that to promote Denmark as a tourist destination and to put it on display on the world's stage!
Sorry for my ignorance...is this the first time that any of the stages of the race are held outside of France? Sorry, my memory fails me!

These were my thoughts too. And a long time coming, it has been years that Frederik and of course others have worked behind the scenes to get the tour to DK.
Today, Frederik also presented the Brain Prize

Over the last decades it has become increasingly common for the Tour de France to start outside of France. This is the 24th time. Since 2000 about half of the TdF's start outside of France. The very first Tour-start outside of France was in the Netherlands in 1954. It's more a surprise that it is the first time for Denmark...
Starts outside of France since 2000:
2002: Luxembourg (2nd time)
2004: Belgium (3rd time)
2007: UK (1st time)
2009: Monaco (1st time)
2010: The Netherlands (5th time)
2012: Belgium (4th time)
2014: UK (2nd time)
2015: The Netherlands (6th time)
2017: Germany (4th time; including 3 times in West-Germany or West-Berlin)
2019: Belgium (5th time)
2022: Denmark (1st time)
2023: Spain (2nd time)
Other countries with a TdF-start (before 2000):
- Switzerland (1 time; 1982)
- Ireland (1 time; 1998)
In addition, almost every year at least one of the stages will be at least partly outside of France. So, even if the first stage is in France, that doesn't mean that neighboring countries (for example, Andorra) aren't included in at least one of the stages.

Very nice that they included the speech in English. What a nice speech.
"It is truly worth celebrating and this year’s Brain Prize is both intriguing and, from a personal point of view, also quite moving.
As the proud father of four children, I clearly recall my children’s first movements; their babbling voices when they started to speak, the touch of their hands and their stumbling feet when they took their first steps into the world."
He has participated in the Brain Prize for so long and truly looks like he enjoys this company.

"The conference focused on the opportunities and barriers that exist for a more energy-efficient society, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince attended a panel discussion yesterday and was later a guest of honor at an official dinner."
Glad we got photos. Its a topic that is of great interest to Frederik and that he involves himself with.

I agree. It is an area he is very passionate about that he has made one of his main issues (he IS interested in more than JUST sports!)! Also, it appears by the photos posted that he also gave a speech. Glad we got at least a couple of photos...SMH.

It is as we all know a very, very current topic.
For reasons we have all become so familiar with - many of us directly on our budgets - the whole energy sector in Europe in particular, but I guess globally as well, has to undergo dramatic changes in the years to come.
It is nothing short of a revolution born out of sheer necessity.
This transformation will cost money and require resources comparable to a major war - very appropriately...
So we are going to see Frederik host or at least give the opening speech an many more such meeting in the coming years.
- One should always try to find something positive of even the most dire situation. This energy transformation is good for the climate - and even better for our grandchildren. - And the penguins.
(I finally got an opportunity to use this emoji!)

Then I will keep my fingers crossed that his attendance at these types of events will start to get the attention that they warrant. This is one of his major issues and that he is passionate about. The US would do well to look to see how Europe will handle this issue!

The Tour is a big thing in France. It's also a big thing here in DK.
Members from both sides of my family will watch the spectacle live, so will members of my wife's family.
All we can hope for now is that the weather will be reasonably.
