And I was always told that 'blue and green should never be seen' but I think the two colours go really well together.
This season 'someone' said that mauve was the new black, last season 'someone' said that cherry red was the new black. If 'someone' said that 'Brides in white was a no-no' would all the future brides choose a different colour for their wedding dresses?
Mary can get away with wearing any colour and style that she likes and look good doing it and I think that she will continue to do so because she is an individual who knows what she likes.

IMO, the outfit is good. The pants to me don't look navy blue, they look more purple-ish with a hint of blue. If the pants were a true navy blue, then we might have a problem, but I don't think they are. I like the jacket, it would not look good on me, but looks fine on her.

I like everything apart from the jacket. That is so ugly. OMG. The pants are very elegant and I like her smile

I must say that pants were interesting and beautiful but jacket was really ugly despite this might be modern and so on. I think that this outfit was good for this kind of occasion and Mary can try these different outfits but it's just not my taste. And finally I like to add that Mary's hair are very very beautiful and shiny!

I'm not a big fan of the coat either, but I think that as a whole the outfit works

I think the pants are black, but because of the material agaist the leather appear navy-ish. Perhaps that jacket was a Christmas present and she felt she had to wear it. Wish Madeleine Glindorf had taken some shots and perhaps we'd have seen the details of M's gold cuff.

I'm not liking the outfit much. I actually thought the details on the jacket and the wrist area of the blouse looked kind of "older", shall I say. IMO, the outfit seems a little too old for Mary. More for the 40-something woman not really for the 30-something woman. I think it's a nice outfit just not the right one for Mary, but there are certainly good elements that are there!

Her hair looks great, the outfit, too many different types of material and too much shine.

A very ugly outfit, with far too many different materials and styles going on.

I just still hate the high waisted look. Maybe the outfit wouldn't have been as bad if the pants, shirt and jacket weren't all the same height. If the jacket was worn with a stylish black cocktail dress, I think it would be lovely

Normally, I hate when any royal takes chances when it comes to fashion, I basically like it safe ..
BUT HERE, Oh my god !
She looks like Samantha from Sex and The city ! And that hell is a compliment. The high waisted midnight-blue satin/silk trousers, the black sweater and that gorgeous short black leatherjacket over ! She just looks fun, and stylish, and I can nada but praise her for this outfit. This is what I'll remember January '08 for.
She has started the year really well. First with the grogeous sari gown, then the very politically correct coat/jacket thing, then this and also her new years thing for her patronages.
GO MARY !
Frederik looks really good too ! They basically both look happy, and Mary should wear her hair and makeup like this more often ..

Some people have began to refer to the purple gown, that she wore to the Romanian State Dinner and again this past New Year's court gala, as the Sari dress (or Saree depending on which spelling one prefers.) While some take offense to using the name, I can understand why others refer to the gown as a Sari.
The material, purchased at the Salamanca market (kind of like the Rose Bowl Flea market here in L.A.) in Tasmania prior to her marriage to Frederik back in 2004, was partially used on the top as well as the top layer of the skirt.
Furthermore, that specific material is used for Hindu wedding ceremonies (sometimes used for other major events) and means a lot to the people who wear them. The significance is pretty important to many while other have absolutely no idea what it means. Are they ignorant? No. But it is wise to be culturally sensitive (including myself... yeah I admit it), and not refer to the gown as a Sari because clearly that's not. This is one type of Sari in case you don't know what one looks like.
Personally speaking, the gown is beautiful though I'm not too keen on the cut around the arms.
Hope that helps.

In the documentary Mary Elizabeth Donaldson there is a short clip of her purchasing the fabric. If anyone is interested it is at the 6:52 minute mark.

Oh, okay! I thought it was a real sari, but it is just a sari fabric. Thanks for updating me on that :)

According to the Danish paper, BT.dk Frederik and Mary attended the gala premiere of the King and I this evening.
The article is short with a photo. Perhaps there will be more pictures online sometime later this evening, PST, or tomorrow.
