Archduke Otto (1912-2011) Head of the Imperial House & Archduchess Regina (1925-2010)

Hello. I have always admired Archiduc Otto. Has anyone any news about him? He disappeared lately. Of course he had two sad losses in his life the last months, his wife and his brother.
Is he in bad condition??

Archduchess Regina was a member of the House of Saxe-Meiningen. I thought all the Saxon duchy dynasties were Protestant (with the Royal Saxons being Catholic). Was Regina born Catholic or did she convert upon marriage? I note that she had a brother who became a monk so I assume the family was Catholic?

Her father was protestant and her mother catholic. The children have been raised catholic.

I heard that he was in quite a bad condition and also too ill to attend his wife's funeral. It was widely expected that he would die before her.

Otto would celebrate his 100th birthday today. He was born on 20th November 1912. A mass was held this weekend because of it with several family members attending and visiting the Kapuzinergruft where his eldest son Karl laid down a bouquet. ORF showed a documentary about AD Otto today maybe it will also be possible to watch it online.
 
I like Archduchess Regina's name. Regina means "Queen" in Latin. Had Regina become Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, she would have had an appropriate and excellent first name.
 
Seing the Videos of Archduke Otto I am sad to see how weak the now head of the house of Habsbourg is. Archduke Karl is also the head of the Austrian Order of the Golden Fleece. We know nothing about was he is officialy doing . Sad !

It is true. The Habsburg Family was once a very powerful family and it is sad that it is now so with little visibility and power.
Archduke Karl hardly appears and we know nothing of his activities.
His son Ferdinand seems to be very dedicated to his career as a racing driver. He appears to be friendly and charismatic but does not appear in many of the House of Habsburg activities.
The House of Habsburg doesn't seem to have a lot of activities at the moment, and it's sad that this is happening.

It is not entirely their fault: the well-willingness towards the monarchy one finds in Romania is lacking in Austria. There they can not even use their proper name (Von Habsburg) and in Hungary, with the Orbán regime, they can better stay away. So what else is there to do for them?

That's true. Many members of the Habsburg family did go on living aristocratic lifestyles on their estates in Hungary, Poland & Romania after the fall of the Dual-Monarchy, but then something called Work War II happened. It was possible to retain their estates in Austria as well, but only if they pledged an allegiance to the republic. Some did which is why Schloss Persenbeug, Schloss Wallsee & the Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl are still in Habsburg hands. The children of Karl & Zita naturally didn't and except for a short period in the 30s have never been able to reclaim their properties.

In the Le Nouveau Défi Européen (2007) Otto talks for 40 pages about the totalitarian traits of Putin. Habsburg was told by ex-KGB members and by ex-prisoners that of all the KGB agents it was Putin who was the most inhumane and cruel.

My Mother was norn in Mechelen and Archiduke Otto was studing at Leuven University.
During a Catholic Event the Cardinal was there. Everyone was bowing but not young Archduke Otto . For him the Head of the Imperial House of Habsbourg was above the Head of the Belgium Catholic Church.

But the junior lines had a better chance of doing that, but for the late Emperor Karl and Empress Zita, they were advised to leave Austria. Initially at a latter point, they got back properties, but then the Nazis expropriated, then the republicans refused so. Plus the Habsburg law that is still in force today preventing them from claiming any properties.

Not very shocking. Otto was very much in tune with political movements around so trust him to make a good judgment on this.
