The Prince of Asturias joined unexpectedly at the meeting of the king with the Japanese Foreign Minister
Don Juan Carlos presided yesterday the first official engagement after the conclusion of the Pascua Militar: an audience with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Sources of the King's House have confirmed to Monarchy Confidential that the presence of Don Felipe "was not originally scheduled," and have not provided an explanation for this schedule change.
During the first part of the act, Don Felipe remained quietly in the background, allowing the king capture the role originally stipulated when going to chair this meeting alone. However, after the exchange of greetings, the Prince took part in the conversation with Fumio Kishida the same level as his father.

Principe Felipe is with Prince Naruhito the Ambassador of the Year Spain-Japan. Prince and Princess of Asturias will make an official visit to Japan in the coming months, for that reason he was at the meeting.

hm, interesting..... the King and Felipe "joinging surprisingly" the Conference, and the Queen an Prss Letizia doing an official ceremony together for th first time....... do I hear bells ringing????
Do they prepare the handover slowly but steadily?

I doubt it Bine... to think that we have to see what happens in the coming months.

It is normal that Prince Felipe join the King in meetings with international authorities when for some reason he has links with the country. For the meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister, Prince Felipe will travel to the country in March, so it is logical that he participate in the meeting.

The case of the Queen and Princess is more exceptional, the "Banderita" o "El Rastrillo" are acts in which all the women of the family have participated. The delivery of these honors is a ceremony that has always been chaired exclusively by the Queen.

Probably, the presence of the Princess is because she collaborates with several honorees such as the Federation of Rare Diseases and the National Organization of the Blind

What is going on with Queen Sofia's hair??? Did she match it to the colour of Letizia's suit?

That's a good one DOM! Didn't think about it that way but you're right, her hair does have a certain rosy/purple tint. It's probably a rinse she uses, Those things tend to turn a purple color if it is used on lighter hair. Might be the lighting too.

I think there should be a new name for Princess Letizia.............how about the *Princess with the Nerves of Steel*. She sure showed that in the pictures....whoa one strong quiet lady!

Generally, Queen Sofia likes to control the protocol and photoshoots,
and corrects everyone if she thinks it is not organized as it should.

The Princess is more cautious, especially if she is in the company of other members of the family, she let them do as they want, if she is alone is more flexible with protocol.

In these pictures you can see that the Chief of Protocol of the Royal House is behind, seems that he and the Queen disagreed, or the Minister of Health was confused, but he chose not to correct her but the queen did it.

At another point of the event, the Minister of Health stands when the Queen delivers Awards, but usually members of the Royal Family remain seated. The Minister should have followed what Princess did, but seeing that she was going to stand, Princess Letizia also stood, because otherwise the image would have been too strange.

Why is this the first official act together? I remember Sofia & Letizia doing the Banderita event together in 2004, didnt this count as official? I understand the visits at the Rastrillo are considered private, they dont go into the casareal agenda.

It does look as if Sofia is doing this on purpose, she has been at thousands of events under similar circumstances, yet in these situations she comes across as bossy and creating stress where there is non, loving a great gesture and directing her subjects. It makes Letizia or the minister (but one can give her a pass as she is not royal) look like a confused little girl, still not having understood protocol after such a long time.

Duke, the "Banderita" is an act and tradition in which all the women of the royal family are involved... so it is "El Rastrillo".

This act is a more formal event, are national awards given by the Government, and is an act that is always and exclusively chaired by the Queen.

The President of the Federation for Rare Diseases thanked in his speech Princess Letizia for her work with the organization

"Juan Carrión also mentioned the strong and exemplary commitment of HRH the Princess of Asturias. "I think we are in a particularly good place to say that in recent years we have felt accompanied, understood and supported by Her Highness. And therefore, our gratitude is infinite. ""
