No doubt there are better summers than this, but for now, that’s all we have. This edition of the Copa del Rey, which finishes today, will remain in history as the most insipid one of all the twenty-four editions that have been disputed throughout the years.
Until now, Don Juan Carlos, who is the only member of the Royal Family participating this year in the nautical competition, has been able to sail just on Tuesday, due to the unexpected death of King Fahd. However, Don Juan Carlos is expected today at the helm of the "Bribón”, after returning yesterday from Saudi Arabia (actually a day after what was planned, since the hospitality of the Saudi Royal Family forced him to spend the night in the city of Riad).
Regarding the Princes of Asturias, we continue not knowing of them, as they left the island last Wednesday, towards an unknown destiny.
And yesterday, once again, Her Majesty the Queen and Infanta Doña Cristina livened-up the regattas with their presence, this time accompanied by Iñaki Urdangarín and the three boys of the Dukes of Palma: Juan, Pablo and Miguel (as they preferred to let little Irene, calm and relaxed, in Marivent). The six embarked on board of the "Somni" and sailed towards the field of regattas, where they kept encouraging the crew of the "Azur de Puig", the sailboat that is traditionally captained by Doña Cristina, although this year, due to her recent maternity, she decided not to compete. Just as Don Felipe did last Tuesday, Iñaki Urdangarín took a bath on the high seas, to refresh the suffocating heat felt these days in Spain.
After the last regatta of today, Their Majestys the Kings will give the trophies to the winning crews of XXIV of the Copa del Rey, a ceremony that will take place in the Castle of Bellver and where the Princes of Asturias are also expected.
