Sorry to re-post again so soon but I was just noticing how beautiful the Queen's tiara is. I'm not sure I've seen that before -- is it new? Does anyone know something about it. I think it is possibly my favorite tiara of all time but then I am partial to pearl/diamond combinations!

No, it is not new, and belonged to Queen Victoria Eugenia. Queen Sofia has worn in many times in the past, most recently at the Danish wedding last year, as well as in Sweden a few years prior to that.

Was the Chinese President underdressed? It seems that everyone was in black tie (tuxedo-type wear). He was just wearing a suit.

Maybe the President and the First Lady weren't informed or didn't have an idea what a gala dinner was:eek: .

The First Lady did not underdressed. This type of qi-pao which is long sleeves and long skirt are usually only be worn at formal dinner as well as gala dinner

Thanks lots everyone for pics. The Queen looks really really elegant both at official functions during the visit and at the Gala Banquet as well, a nice new dress. The First Lady has worn better this time then what she wore at the State Banquet to the United Kingdom last week. And its such a pity taht Letizia not attending, but she should better has a rest now after giving birth, she and Leonor will do fine.

Are the spanish royals wearing spanish order or do they have order (sash, etc) exchange?

It's true.qi-pao is very gorgeous. Each Chinese girl will wear qi-pao at own wedding, but the color can be bright. The manual embroidery is especially precious.

I am not very sure but I think that they all take the Order of the Great Cross of Carlos III in different degrees. Iñaqui Urdangarín takes the Great Cross of the sports Merit.

http://www.informativos.telecinco.es/china/naranjas/acuerdo/dn_15574.htm

During the dinner, Don Juan Carlos invited his guests to toast the "prosperity and happiness" of the Chinese people and the relations between both countries "that are crossing an excellent moment" of expansion in multiple fields, "without precedents".

This first State visit from the president of China to Spain assumes a "singular importance" for the King, as a symbol "of the new qualitative dimension that we wish to print to the relations between both countries, which are distant in length, but united by historical bows and the mutual interest of our peoples".

Those dancers are from the Spanish National Ballet. It's a quite different version of the ballet that we are used to see :) I saw their show here in Lisbon last year and i loved it!!
