Felipe and Letizia Take to the Slopes

Spain's Crown Prince Felipe and his fiancée Letizia Ortiz have been turning heads on the slopes, enjoying a weekend of high-speed fun at the luxury ski resort of Baqueira/Beret.

Members of the Spanish royal family are regular visitors to the mountains of Catalonia, and King Juan Carlos has been coming here for decades. So there was little chance of the country's favourite couple going unnoticed and, sure enough, they were met by a crowd of well-wishers as they headed out for a day on the piste.

Felipe and Letizia have become something of a national obsession since they stunned the country by announcing their engagement last November. Just a few days ago likenesses of the couple were unveiled at the national wax museum in Madrid. And a new Prince of Asturias cake – which will be served at their wedding reception – is expected to become a staple on Spanish menus.

The country's growing excitement will reach its climax on May 22, when the happy couple make their vows in Madrid's Almudena Cathedral. Their wedding will come just a few days after Denmark's Prince Frederik and Mary Donaldson say "I do" in Copenhagen.

The Dukes of Palm spend the weekend in Baqueira

Coinciding with the birthday of Iñaki Urdangarín, the Dukes of Palm and their three children enjoy of a weekend in the region near to The Pyrenees Arán's Valley.
Urdangarín takes advantage of his stay in the valley to practise the skiing, which he practises on Baqueira Beret's station, sport that the Infanta cannot practise because she is pregnant of her fourth child.

Right! Sorry for the mistake, I meant "child". I wrote that too fast so I didn't realize.
We still don't know if the baby is gonna be a "son" or a "daughter" , sorry again.

And the woman in blue isn't a nunny, she is Cristina de Borbón Dos Cicilias, daughter of Ana of France and Carlos de Borbón de las Dos Sicilias, who is one of the King's cousins.
Cristina is one of the best friends of the Infanta, and she was the one who travelled with Cristina and Iñaki to Mexico a few weeks ago.

Urdangarín skis in Baqueira with his children

THE DUKE OF PALM likes the snow, the skiing and Baqueira Beret's heights. Yesterday he went up 1.800 meters with his children to ski. Last weekend, Iñaki Urdangarín did exactly the same thing for celebrate his birthday. This season, infanta Cristina doesn't ski for safety because she is pregnant.

Fin de semana de esquí en Baqueira

Todo estaba listo en Baqueira Beret para recibir la visita tan esperada de los Príncipes de Asturias. Si bien esta nueva cita con la nieve estaba planeada, en un principio, para la semana pasada, con motivo de la celebración del treinta y siete cumpleaños de don Felipe, tuvo que ser pospuesta a este fin de semana debido a las adversas condiciones climatológicas.

El Heredero de la Corona y doña Letizia llegaron anoche a la residencia que los Reyes tienen en la localidad leridana para poder disfrutar de unos días de descanso, practicando uno de los deportes favoritos de la Familia Real. Muchos eran los medios de comunicación que les esperaban llegar a las pistas donde, en todo momento, se han mostrado sonrientes y amables con todos los allí presentes. La Princesa de Asturias vistió un traje de esquí blanco, gorro y grandes gafas. Por su parte, Felipe de Borbón optó por los tonos grises. Ésta es la segunda ocasión que podemos ver a la pareja en Baqueira. La primera fue en febrero del año pasado, tras el anuncio de su compromiso.

El duque de Palma, Iñaki Urdangarín, en compañía de sus tres hijos, Juan Valentín, Pablo Nicolás y Miguel, también ha querido estar con los Príncipes este fin de semana esquiando. La Infanta Cristina prefirió no subir hasta la pistas debido a su embarazo.

No es de extrañar que don Felipe y doña Letizia quieran disfrutar de un pequeño descanso dentro de su apretada agenda de compromisos oficiales, ya que esta semana se les ha podido ver, en una cena de gala en el Palacio Real que los Reyes ofrecieron con motivo de la visita oficial del Presidente de la República de Hungría, Ferenc Mádl, y su esposa Dalma Mádl, a nuestro país, así como en el metro de Madrid visitando la línea 1, la misma que el rey Alfonso XIII, bisabuelo del Príncipe, inauguró en 1919.

The Princes of Asturias were yesterday skiing on the tracks of Baqueira Beret, where they arrived Friday at night. This is the second time (and the first one after the wedding) that Doña Letizia skis in the Leridan station, where she was introduced to the white sport, precisely one year ago, by the hand of Eduardo Roldán, a personal friend of the Kings. The Princes had predicted to go to Baqueira last week, by the occasion of Felipe's birthday, but they couldn't, due to the storm. Yesterday, nevertheless, the Heirs to the throne enjoyed a sunny day, to slide ny the snow tracks. The Princes of Asturias are in Baqueira next to the Dukes of Palma de Mallorca. Although Infanta Doña Cristina did not raise tracks yesterday, due to her state of gestation, her husband, Iñaki Urdangarín, did ski, accompanied by his three children and his nephew.

I think the Spanish people will have to wait a while for Felipe and Letizia to have an heir. Maybe they are deliberately waiting two years or so. The other crown princes waited at least two years to have they're first child after marriage. I would love to see them have a child.

Los Príncipes de Asturias vuelven a Baqueira


Don Felipe y Doña Letizia disfrutan del fin de semana en la estación leridana, que no visitaban desde que eran novios

Lérida- Doña Letizia lo mismo se enfunda un Caprile rehecho para una cena de gala que se pone los esquís para deslizarse por las pistas como una veterana. Después de que los Príncipes de Asturias salieran esta Navidad a esquiar a Canadá –en otras ocasiones lo han hecho a los Alpes suizos, huyendo de las cámaras fotográficas y de pregundas indiscretas–, en esta ocasión han querido aprovechar su visita oficial al monasterio cisterciense de Vallbona, junto al presidente de Hungría, para quedarse en la región y disfrutar de un fin de semana de sol y nieve en Baqueira Beret. Ya ese día se rumoreó que podrían desplazarse hasta el Pirineo leridano, pero no ha habido confirmación oficial hasta que ayer por la mañana aparecieron en la pista con sus monos y esquís.

Debut de casados. Si bien la pareja ya practicó el año pasado uno de los deportes favoritos de la Familia Real, cuando aún no habían pasado por la vicaría, esta visita se convierte en la primera que realizan a esta popular estación una vez casados. Según se ha comentado, tenían previsto haber viajado a Baqueira la semana pasada, coincidiendo con el cumpleaños de Don Felipe, pero la ola de frío hizo que aplazaran los planes.
Doña Letizia, a quien es la segunda vez que se la fotografía practicando este deporte, demostró mayor soltura y ofreció la mejor de sus sonrisas a las cámaras de los fotógrafos, que captaron su rostro sin una gota de maquillaje. La Princesa, que ya está totalmente adaptada a la agenda y la vida de su esposo, lució un mono color blanco y un gorro de lana, y mostró su imagen más natural y deportiva después de que esta semana se haya publicado, en contraste, su primera fotografía oficial. Los Príncipes contaron en esta jornada con la compañía de su cuñado, Iñaki Urdangarín, y sus sobrinos, que subieron desde Barcelona sin su madre, ya que la Infanta Doña Cristina está en su quinto mes de gestación. Al que será difícil volver a ver sobre los esquís en Baqueira será al Rey, quien en diciembre declaró que ya no está para que le saquen fotos cayéndose.

Los príncipes de Asturias disfrutaron ayer de una excelente jornada de esquí en Baqueira, que apuraron hasta bien entrada la tarde. Doña Letizia y don Felipe llegaron a la estación a las once de la mañana y, juntos, después de saludar a decenas de esquiadores que se vieron sorprendidos por su presencia, se dirigieron al telesilla Pla de Baqueira, que va de la cota 1.800 hasta la cota 2.300.

La princesa de Asturias demostró en seguida que ha mejorado su técnica, después de lo visto hace ahora un año en la misma estación aranesa, cuando aún no estaba casada con don Felipe. Durante este primer descenso siguió durante un buen rato a su esposo, que le iba marcando los giros.

El sol y la excepcional calidad de la nieve, muy fría y seca por las bajas temperaturas en la estación, hicieron el resto. Los Príncipes recorrieron buena parte de la estación de Baqueira -doña Letizia siguió, al parecer, clases con un monitor- y llegaron hasta la zona de la Bonaigua, que es por la que el complejo aranés se ha expandido al Pallars Sobirà. Iñaki Urdangarin y sus tres hijos también esquiaron ayer en la estación de Val d´Aran, aunque el esposo de la infanta Cristina -que llegó a Baqueira media hora antes que los príncipes de Asturias- no coincidió, al menos en ningún descenso, con ellos. Los Príncipes tienen previsto volver a subir hoy a las pistas para disfrutar de una nueva jornada de esquí, en el primer fin de semana de esta temporada que los herederos de la Corona pasan en una estación invernal española.

Los Príncipes, que no perdieron en ningún momento la sonrisa y saludaron a decenas de los 12.000 esquiadores que ayer visitaron el complejo aranés, pusieron fin a su jornada poco antes de las cuatro de la tarde.
