Spanish Royal Easter Vacations (2007-2014)

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Paloma Barrientos writes in Vanitatis, that Felipe, Letizia, the girls and Paloma Rocasolano arrived to the Fiumicino Airport in Rome on Saturday 15th April. They stayed at a hotel in Rome and continued to Athens some day.
Felipe y Letizia, recibidos como príncipes en su viaje privado

We will wait that there are photos to see if it is true ... because it is impossible that if they were in Rome in The Holy Week does not exist photos, because thousands of Spanish travel there in these days. On the other hand, if only they saw them in the airport how does she know that later they were going to Athens? Has she power of divination? Yesterday she wrote that they would not be at the Mass of Easter, and they will be.

So at the end, the King is the one who breaks the tradition. I'm not surprised at all.
Paloma Barrientos is not a royal insider, most of her articles were pure gossips. It's absurb that every year she ranted about the Princes travelled abroad for the official breaks, in fact everyone in the RF travelled abroad at times, the latest Hola had an article and pictures of Sofia in DC visiting Cristina's family last week. Since the Princes dont take a normal work week off travelling, they could only do it during the official breaks, what does she expect ? Never travel abroad with the kids LOL . I don't know what Paloma B would say if the Princes take a week off during a normal working week .

At least the King has an excuse not to attend.

I dont get the fascination with SRF vacation of the Spanish media either. While there are times when they should show up for "public holidays" in order to promote the vacation spots of the country, what they do, I would do exactly the same for the rest of the time, travel abroad and not spend my holiday in Spain but somewhere where privacy can be enjoyed. Its very pretentious of the media to expect them to stay in Spain in front of everybodys eyes.

They have two good reasons to "hide away", one being privacy, the other one being the escape of critizism by avoiding pictures of holidays in lavish surroundings, like other royals usually do and get away with it.

But if they go to the same destination every year how is the promoting? Maybe enjoy a break elsewhere in Spain. Whether anyone of the families attends with or without an excuse, I think it is up to them. The media gossip a lot & it wont stop, even if the whole family did attend, they will manage to make up a story. The family will never win the press IMO, there will always be stories about them.

There is a grown relation with Majorca since it was and probably still is THE touristy place to go in Spain, like in the 80ies or 90ies, providing the ground for the housing boom, Spain was badly in need to become a favourite tourism destination in Europe, Majorca was the logical choice. The royals have a palace there where they can stay and their presence attracts people. At the same time, the media transformed into mass-media, covering such stories for a much wider interested audience.

Another poster said earlier that it was a bad idea for the SRF to do such a close alliance, maybe yes in hindsight but at the time it was the right thing to do, its not that the royals didnt benefit, they were and still are pampered by companies and the industry, attracting sponsors for sailing etc and the connections have never been strictly business but also private. Its not about simply chosing to spend holidays elsewhere or suddenly starting to promote a different area for the sake of promotion, they have to show up in Majorca at least in the summer to fullfil their part of the grown deal of promotion. F&L have "inherited" a problem since they have become the media cash cows and are expected to follow suit of JC's arrangements, but apparently with little interest to do so (Felipe only sails the part he has to, Letizia doesnt sail at all. With Cristina & Elena as keen (water)sportswomen in their youth, Leonor & Sofia will be expected to continue the tradition of sporty royals, if possible in Majorca or Baqueira in Winter). Its kind of a "the spirits that I've cited my commands ignore" scenario. And unfortunately its a difficult time for Spain and the SRF are subject to easy critizism by accusing them to put their privacy above Spanish interests.

It is an opportune excuse, that the press accepts because he is the King, but I think it is difficult that this is the real reason ... This visit is projected for months and, does the King need to be in Madrid to prepare it the day before, that in addition is a Sunday and with the spanish, included the Government, of vacations?

I agree Lula but interesting that the press did except the excuse.
I mean the King doesn't have to be there as I am sure he has tons of people who will be preparing this visit.

At what time will the mass start/royal family arrive?

Well, its legitimate, who knows what is going on re preparation. But I agree, if JC had wanted to attend the mass, he would have gone ;)

JC has been the King for 35 years, he has had hundreds of state visits (Qatar visit is nothing new), has met numerous important leaders of the world, I haven't heard before he needed to cancel one event in order to prepare for another event. I don't think the media believed in the excuse, but just kept quiet because he is the King.

I don't think the Spanish press is obsessed with the Princes' spending their private holiday in Spain in general except for the likes of Paloma Barrientos who simply finds every single opportunity to criticize Letizia even with false datas, invalid informations. Of course Paloma B forgot even when Felipe was single, he had friends, girlfriends, he rarely spent the whole easter week or the whole summer in Mallorca with his parents (except for attending sailing events), now he and Letizia haven't done anything different from his single days.

I have read in several places, that Letizia, her mother and the two Infantitas had gone to Rome for the holidays.
I hope the Infantas Elena and Cristina and the Queen will attend the Mass.
It´s sad, but I think we must face the fact that there is a division in the RF and that many Spaniards do not like Letizia. Please, this is not MY opinion, since I´m not even Spanish. This is what I have heard and read from Spanish people.
My sincere wishes, as an admirer of the Spanish Royal Family, is that the whole family would be there.:flowers:

Thanks lula! So happy to see the Infantas (old and young)! For once more the little Infantas' dresses are so cute. I like the fact they are not dressed the same!

I agree,great photos!

The Queen, Felipe & Letizia looks really happy, Letizia & the Queen especially look very relaxed. Elena looks like she had to make an appearance, im sorry but I just don't like the fact she has a sad face on inside the church with her arms crossed, gives an impression she didn't want to be there. Christina looked lovely so did the little girls in their pretty summer dresses.

myroyal's: SPA

the girls are so beautiful and lovely. as usually leonor is always smiling and sofia is serious. love them both and thank god they have diferent personalities!

i only wish i could get High quality images without watermarks. anyone here got HQ versions?

It was a lovely event and the photos are great, especially those of grandmama Sofía and the little Infantas :flowers: Leonor was beautiful as always. Her face always shines with a happy smile, it`s amazing. Sofía is more shy which is normal with so many strange and screaming people around. She`s very tall, isn`t she? With Leonor they look like twins :flowers:

Cristina looked lovely today too.

Sofia is almost as tall as her sister even though she is 18 months younger. My guess is that both girls will be very, very tall like their dad, aunts Cristina & Elena arent small either
Spanish Royals attend Easter Mass in Mallorca - Pictures - Zimbio

People have different views but for me Leonor is more and more Felipe, especially the smile.
